Good morning,

Just found out digidirect.com.au is having 3 day sale.
It seems their prices are lowest that you can find for Australian stock.

  • Canon pancake 40mm f2.8 $164
  • Canon 50mm f1.4 $350
  • Sigma 35mm f1.4 $719

Find out for yourself.

Cheers

  • Yeah some good stuff in there, i had a quick look some of the stuff is close to gray pricing and pretty much on par once to add shipping or less

Sigma 35mm f1.4 $719 - wow, the price war is on

  • +1

Would have been sweeter if the ended up throwing free shipping.

  • well if its legit Australian stock from CRK you should be able to get your nearest CRK stockist to match it.

    • If it is Sigma…just contact CRK directly (I did this to get my Sigma 180mm f/3.5 Macro years ago) to get them to match the best grey import price (not ebay unfortunately)…they do have a policy on this (last paragraph)

What I hate about CRK is that unless you send in the red warranty card within 2-4 weeks I think kiss the warranty goodbuy.

lol!! that would be illegal within australian law as you have your statutory rights.

at the worst you will miss out on benefits of registering - maybe phone support or additional benefits but they cannot deny your statutory rights.

      • Well that's what it says on my Sigma lens card. This is by no means a reflection on digiDirect I think they are great.

  • I would dare say that they now currently have some of the most competitive pricing for Australian stock…DIGIDIRECT is NOT a Grey Importer. I do part time work for another camera store in the Sydney CBD (Foto Riesel) and can confirm their status as Australian Stockists

  • I've bought my last two bodies and lens from the guys there. I deal with Chris usually. He's a good guy and very helpful.

  • Sigma 35mm f1.4 for Nikon for $734.90 delivered. best price I've seen so far

    http://www.digidirect.com.au/camera_lenses/sigma/standard_le…

  • Ah crap, these prices are way too tempting…

  • +2

I thought there will be 10% off the online price. Found out the price was already reduced.
I am tempting to buy Tamron 70-300 VC for $449 (if there is 'another' 10% off)

    • Maybe an OZbargain special ;)

  • great prices for local market. recommend these guys.

  • Can any of the camera gurus clue me in. What would be a solid entry-level DSLR?

    • +1

I would say grab a Nikon D5100 or a Canon 600/650D, newly retired models are cheap and they are still very, very good. The Sony A57 is another good camera, but not a true SLR and you may have more difficulty sourcing lenses for it in the long run. If you can stretch the D7000 or the 60D are also solid choices for you to grow into.

You, sir, are a very nice person.

While i'm stealing your time, would I be better off with a mirrorless camera as a beginners camera?

        • good choice! i would go for a mirrorless camera in your situation.

Have a play with the Olympus OMD and the Sony NEX 6…. they may suit you as well. They have the avatar of being smaller and therefore more likely to be taken out with you. I like the OMD as it is very SLR in controls and feel so a shift to a SLR is easy… Let's not forget that it is almost as quick as mid range SLR for focus and faster for burst rate

  • Awesome thanks a bunch! Just bought a Sony SEL 35mm f1.8 lens for $407.9 delivered for my NEX6, fair bit cheaper than from eglobal/t-dimension/ebay etc.

    • Great lens, would have done the same but $19 dollars cheaper than videopro not enough for an impulse buy for me.

  • any recommendations for a tripod?

    carrying a D800 + 27-70 2.8 lens, so rather something a bit more sturdy.

    Cheers

  • edit - ignore

  • Some very good pricing on that site.

  • i just got my s 35/1.4 a few weeks back at a good price. but not as good as this one. i am also flying to NZ in the coming 2 months. i should've waited, then i can claim gst….

  • Great price for the Canon 10-22mm EF-S Ultra-Wide Zoom
    http://www.d-d-photographics.com.au/products/Canon-EF%252dS-…
$635 compared with just under $700 I've seen elsewhere.

  • That "Sony mount" for the Sigma 35mm f1.4 - I guess that's only A mount, not E mount as well? The page doesn't say but it would be perfect for my NEX! (I already have the Sigma 19mm and 30mm for E mount and have been very happy with the quality, especially for the price.)

    http://www.digidirect.com.au/camera_lenses/sigma/standard_le…

    • Correct it's for the A mount ony, Sigma has not made that lens for E mount.

      Why not get:

      • Thanks for the confirmation and the suggestion - tempting indeed.

        • If you are in it for portraits and speed go for sel50f18 (cheaper), if you are in it for the video (oss) go for the 35f18. If you are in it for landscape and sharpness go for19f2.8 SIGMA and if you are in it for everyday use with excellent sharpness go for 30f2.8 SIGMA (portraits as well).

    • You wouldn't really want the Sigma 35/1.4 if it's a straight port to e-mount anyway. It would be enormous and is designed for FF.

      • dont know much about sony's cameras, but can confirm sigma's version is HUGE and very heavy (relatively).
