Micasa Convection Oven & Multi Cooker $15.50 Delivered (to Most Areas - Delivery More for Some)

1000

First post. Just found this good deal and bought one.

A Micasa Convection Oven & Multi Cooker for $10.00 with half price delivery which for me in NSW was $5.50, Last night it was $29.95 for the oven from memory.

These ovens seem to be popular with many people but I cannot vouch for the quality of it. This version is not a halogen one I believe.

If shipping to your area is more than $9.95 e.g. Cairns ($10.50), it is cheaper to order the item through Deals Direct's eBay listing, which has a $19.95 charge with free standard shipping to Australia (credit to Make it so).

  • wow cheaper than a toaster! (excl. $2 ones from Coles).
But yea no idea about the quality….

  • Does this actually brown meat? I'm assuming that it produces enough energy to sufficiently roast.

    • yes it does, put it long enough and it browns and crisps the meat! i have the Aldi version, best to cut meat into large pieces to speed up cooking

  • Thanks!!!

    Just ordered

really interested to cook some stuff in this

  • My old one just broke down, bought this one! Thanx :)

    • How long did the original last and how much use did it have?

      • different brand, mate! It lasted 5 years.

  • Thanks SamR. $18 to 4300 by the way

  • Thanks just ordered one! :)

  • Thank you very much OP.

  • Nice, got one. $15.50 to Adelaide. Thanks, OP :-).

  • +3

It's $20 with free shipping on their eBay page: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Micasa-Convection-Oven-Multi-Cook…
This would work out cheaper for some people in remote areas perhaps.

Good deal, I figure. They mostly retail for >$50, I think.

    • 50 is a bit rich, can be had just about any discount store for $30

  • +1

Been wanting one of these for ages. A snip at $15.50 shipped!! I spend that much money driving to the mall!! Good one OP, take the weekend off!!

  • +1

Do i need this even though i have a gas oven at home? lol

    • There's a lot less space to heat so it'll be more efficient heating/cooking than a large oven, they work a treat. Not sure what the maths would be on elec v's gas though. Easier to clean to.

      • +2

I still doubt it will be anywhere as efficient as using gas.

  • +2

Damn, weren't these like $300 when they were the as seen on tv ones? How quickly these gimmicks drop in price astonishes me.

    • they are still selling that insta-hang gadget for ~$100 and people are buying it !

  • How does one get the half price delivery?

On a smart phone it just has $9.95 delivery before giving address or anything. I am in Sydney.

    • Which part of sydney? It varies according to post code.

    • I think it was mentioned in a previous dealsdirect deal to use desktop version not mobile to get the shipping discount.

  • Cheers, Grabbed one. Was looking at these just yesterday but the prices were prohibitive. Can't say no to $10 though :)

  • +2

I used one of these when I was renovating a house and all the appliances and joinery was ripped out. Its pretty much like a camp oven. It can be quite difficult controlling the heat and also getting food to brown evenly. But its cheap at this price. Its not going to cook a chicken like that one in the photo, however.

  • looks exactly like the George Foreman turbo we got at Coles for $20 last year

perfect for meat pies n dimmys yo!

  • +3

these cook a fantastic roast chook in about 45 mins. Very moist and juicy.
they have a tendency to burn food on top while the bottom is underdone so not good for cakes etc
    Good for:
    pizza
    roasts
    chips
    pies
    chicken wings
    nuggets (finger food) etc

    not so good:
    Cakes
    caseroles

    • +1

Ahh was intending to see how a cake would work out.

      Figured a roast would work.

I find these ovens work shockingly well for most things.

I've never see the actual electricity usage on them. I'm assuming its much lower than a conventional oven.

      Anyone know?

      • 1.2Kwh to cook a 1.9kg chook.

        • Is that a lot ?

        • +2

          Maybe 30cents of power

        • Takes the same time to cook the chicken in either oven.

I suspect my normal oven uses more power it is a 3kwh element.
But unfortunately I cannot easily measure how long it is on for.

Peak power usage time for me is 55c/Kwh.
So about 65c worth in the halogen oven.
I should cook chickens at night after 10pm! :)
Then it would only be about 14c of off-peak power.

      • I find cakes go quite well. They tend to raise up flat rather than heaps in the middle like in a normal oven. Not sure why.

  • OP needs to highlight delivery is not $5.50 for everyone. Those people may benefit from the same deal offered by the same company on ebay where it is $19.95 delivered http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Micasa-Convection-Oven-Multi-Cook…

  • how is this compare to the one yesterday??

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/108226

  • It is the mobile site. No half priced shipping when using mobile site.

Just went to the standard site and received $5.50 delivery instead of the $9.95 delivery at the mobile site.

Now waiting for a call-back so I can cancel my first order.

  • Ordered. Cheers for the find OP! I have an electric oven (no gas connection at my place at all) so I'm sure this will be more power efficient for little things rather then using the whole oven!

  • Thanks Op, will make a nice emergency gift!

  • how does it compare to the one from aldi which is $20?
it looks exactly the same but the brand!!

    • The Aldi one is a Halogen one with a really bright light, this one has a heating element I believe. Plus it is cheaper, delivered!

      • Which is better.. halogen or heater?

        • Not sure, some people say the Halogen ones are too bright for some people and some say they are fragile as they are only a lightbulb.

The heating element type are like a normal electric oven with a fan.

Which one lasts longest depends on the quality I suppose.

        • Heaters last longer than halogens. Halogens can be more difficult to clean, heaters just burn off anything that touches them.

  • Do these work well for frozen pizzas? Or should I stick with my fan-forced oven?

    • +1

Either way, you should probably spend the time to learn how to make a food dough and make 10 times better pizzas in no time

      • +1

That's probably very true, but it's kinda like saying make your own yoghurt and ice cream instead of buying them. Some people aren't picky enough to bother with the effort, or simply don't have the time to spare. :)

      • Yeah, it takes less time to buy a pre-made pizza and cook it then it does to buy all the ingredients, cut them up, prepare the dough and wash up the mess you made afterwards. When you're absolutely starving, you're probably not in the mood to cook either.

Anyway I bought two units… just in case one fails and the other will serve as backup.

        • +1

But that guarantees the first one will never die!

        • +1

Naw. It'll die the day after you give the second one away as a present because the first one wasn't dying.

        • +1

          Damn you, Murphy's law.

    • My humble opinion: they work great work with pizzas (mind you, mine is a halogen one from Copperart/Homeart). Also great with chips, finger/party food, pies, perfect fish fingers etc. (yes, I'm a bachelor). In fact, after I got sick of those Dr Oetke/McCain pizzas, nowadays I just make mine with a Greek/Lebanese bread and put on my own toppings. Mmm mmm…

I'm so enamoured with mine, I try to 'air-fry' anything I can lay my hands on: doughnuts become crispy glazed delights :-), sausages die an agonizing wrinkled untasty death :-( […to a man with a hammer, everything soon resembles a nail…]

My view is that these kinds of ovens aren't specifically more effective or energy-efficient than your kitchen ovens per se but the fact that a) they are on your benchtop, with a 360* view, allows you to precisely (& conveniently) control the 'done'ness of your food item, and b) their small cavity allows them to preheat MUCH faster, thus —> both time and energy savings. Those two factors are good enough for me…but what I really enjoy (irrationally) is watching that dastardly oil being fan-forced off my food and dripping away…from my arteries.

  • Eventhough my current Aldi one still works after 3yrs, but cant resist on a cheap deal, thanks op

  • Got one. I cook a lot of small things and need the whole oven. This should be perfect if I make sure to heat it up beforehand (since it takes longer with convection). Thanks OP.

  • The website doesnt seem to be working?

Never takes me to the Check out page??

  • Out of stock :-(

  • Just missed out… doesn't let me add to cart anymore. :(

  • Yeah, all out. I asked the online representative and said they're all out today. They may get more but not sure when.

  • it's sold out……

  • Darn, missed it. Wifey would want one.

  • sold out

  • Pity that they are sold out. Could really do with one.

    • ive got one on direct debt that i haven't paid for cause i bought one on my credit card

If you can pick it up from my place @ Bankstown, ill give you the details to pay for it

  • Already purchased two, good gift idea for Xmas. lol

  • The older more expensive version used to come with a stainless steel extension ring which u can put between glass bowl and heat element to make it a bigger bowl. Not any more I think….

  • Related, but off-topic: I have an Aldi one, but have lost the cookbook (such as it was) that came with it.

Anyone able to point to a good (ebook) halogen cookbook?

    Cheers!

  • ouch missed it by 5mins, left till after work.

    Didnt see the time deadline

  • Mine was delivered today, looking good!

    • i got mine a couple of days ago

The construction is pretty cheap but its still a bargain for $15

Now to cook something in it

  • Hey all,

I find the thing too big and am selling it for the price I paid $15 over here - pickup from Sydney 2145 only:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/109436

I haven't even used it. Just took it out of the packaging and gave the glass bowl a wash.
