  • Do you have any laptops with 1920x1080 resolution? I would prefer 15" form factor.

imho, best bargain of the year for a 15" FHD laptop but it is expired ;)

      • +2

Absolute shithouse in terms of build quality and stability though. Personal experience. We have 3550s, 3560s and 3300s. Very flimsy cheap plastic-ey feel.

Prefer the IBM thinkpad build quality over Dells. Way more robust. Unfortunately have to use these PoS at work.

        • IBM Thinkpads typically start at over $1000. You're basically comparing apples to oranges.

        • +1

True. Still very cheap-ass build. One would think with our daily charge-out rate, we'd be able to get anything other than those ghetto-boxes.

        • Works fine for me in Chrome!

        • Just add the laptop to your cart from the deals page and apply the code. It will give you the discount!

      • hi scotty,
why does it have intel HD graghics 4000 only?

        • +1

It would be more expensive? Sorry I have no idea but the typical t series buyers probably don't game much.

    • Same

  • +2

Hmmm I'd be very careful with Lenovo's. They don't have the best customer service/care factor. My current Lenovo just died due to a faulty EEPROM chip/faulty Motherboard. Called them up today and they said they know nothing about any issues, even though I pointed them to their own forums where their own ADMIN have said it's a problem and to call up support even if it's outside warranty.

A lot of people have been having problems with their laptops. So just be aware.

    • +1

customer service is front line to log the request. I don't think they are technicans so I'm not surprised if they cannot answer your questions. If they can assist you for the repair I think they've done what they need.

I'm pretty happy with old IBM service, received replaced part next day, Very impressive. Not sure with Lenovo's but I assume they are same company and service should be similar.

    • +1

I am still waiting for my 9 months old X1 carbon, after exactly two months when I lodged the warranty claim, and it comes with a NEXT business day three years warranty! I bought many Lenovo, usually if the call centre only need to send me the part for replacement then it has the best service. But when I need to send back for repair, then it becomes the worst service, even with a DOA laptop, still need to call many times for replacement.

    • hmm you guys turn me off this deal. As my wife laptop had died recently. And it's a compaq 1st gen i3 (only 2yrs), i remember my old Hp last 7yrs … time is changing fast …

    • Their Sales department is hopeless so I can only imagine what their Tech Support department is like.

      • It's been moved to America….read on forums that service has partially degraded since then. Exception is a few Admin/Support/Help people who actually help when everyone else says "I don't know"

    • Hi Spectator,

      Is your Thinkpad a E520 or X220?

      • Spectator get in contact with Lead_org above he helped sort out my motherboard issues with Lenovo support!

    • Genuinely interested, are there any laptop brands that are regarded as having very good customer service/customer care aside from Apple?

  • +9

Can someone explain, spec wise. Why this computer has such a high price?

There are other levovo models with i7 processors, for a bit less.

    • +1

No idea. It's crazy to think it was being sold for double this price. The CPU is good and thats about it..

    • +1

Are you talking about before the discount? An i7 for $750 is a pretty good deal. If you can link somewhere with a cheaper i7 then please do.

      • +3

        This has an i5?

        • My bad, got confused with the Dell linked above. Still, he suggests you can get an i7 for less. I'd like to know where…

    • +1

Yeah I dont understand why this laptop with no dedicated gpu is so expensive…

      • +3

        This is a T series laptop. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ThinkPad_T_Series

I don't know about this one in particular but they're typically very robust with a metal frame (as opposed to the plastic of most cheap laptops) and long battery life. You buy this type of laptop when you don't want to have to worry about it breaking etc.

        • +1

          +1

They are built to last. This is why most organisations with a largely mobile workforce get the T-series.

      • +2

I agree, this laptop is low to mid spec and definitely isn't worth $750.

        • -4

Too expensive for $750. Can't believe they dupe us into thinking it is 50%. I think $500 is still tops for this deal. Just my opinion.

        • +2

          $500 dollars for a ThinkPad T series?

        • +3

Decent spec T series. Don't compare to retail crap.
Have had many. Great machine. Shame work no longer get good quality lappys.

        • Psychd,

My sentiments exactly. I completely sympathise with you. :(

        • +2

You have no clue what a business grade laptop is do you?

      • +2

Thats because of the build quality. T series laptops are extremely rock solid and thats why a lot of corporations get these for their employees.

      • +6

A half price Tank is still more than a full price Hyundai
Build quality on these is far superior (I have a T520 - similar but 15") and I wouldn't go back
Keyboard is excellent as well and some people like the mouse pointer thing that not all laptops have (I prefer trackpad)
Frankly these laptops are matt black square and ugly - but they kick ass
If that doesn't matter to you - look elsewhere for better specs cheaper

        • +2

The T-Series is definitely more robust and quality is much better. The specs won't tell you everything in my opinion, from my previous experience with a T-Series laptop I can say that you pay for the quality which makes the computer last long with up-to-date specs. Referring to their review page they seem quite positive: http://shopap.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/thinkpad/t-series/t43…

I guess it really depends on what you are after but soon I need a new laptop and I definitely think about getting another T-Series.

    • -1

$1499 is the RRP .. no one in their right mind would sell/buy at RRP.

I reckon the right price for these specs should be around 1000$, core i5 3rd gen, no SSD, no dedicated graphic, no HD display.

Also you can get ThinkPad USB 3.0 Secure Hard Drive - 500GB for only $1 so it still quite a deal

    • +6

Lenovo T series are the top of the end enterprise level laptops. They use top quality materials throughout and are lighter than the L and E series. They also pass 8 military grade toughness tests (drop your laptop and it should keep chugging along with your data all in tact).

If you're looking at specs alone, you're not going to have a good time enjoying a Lenovo T series. These laptops usually go for $1400+. They are on the same level as HP Elitebooks, although I think the Elitebooks are ugly as hell.

      • Fair enough.. But to think they can sell this at 50% off and still make a profit is a bit concerning.. I guess it is somewhat of a bargain though if you are looking for a robust laptop.

        • +1

They may not be making a profit on these ones. They might be just trying to clear them out for their end of FY sales numbers and to make room for Haswell updates.

        • +2

These are clearance. Next gen ThinkPad with Haswell might be coming soon.

    • +4

ThinkPad T-series are comparable to Dell Latitude 6xxx series, Toshiba Tecra and HP EliteBook. Those are business laptops with good build quality, docking station support, etc.

A $40k XR6T or WRX would out-run many other cars that are more expensive, and would be good value for money when you just quote the kilo-watts or newton-metre. However it does not mean they are "better" in every way.

      • You must look at a lot of different models. I suppose knowledge is savings!

  • How is this a good deal 500gb external drives aren't worth much to be adding as an incentive.

  • +2

I don't understand why people can't appreciate that this is a totally different build from the usual retail laptops. And yet, they would understand how one Samsung 55" TV can go for $1000 and another model Samsung can sell at $3500, even though they are both full HD and both are 3D.

    • +2

In the Samsung example you've given you're paying for the tech/SW included.. so it's not a good analogy. Here, the specs are all the same - but you're paying extra for a more robust case. Not many Ozbargainers would pay for that lol, and certainly not at double or triple the price you could get for the EXACT same specs! (But cheaper built casing most likely plastic of course)

      • +1

You can say the same thing about the T series laptops. There are a lot of technology and software that goes into that laptop that isn't evident in the specs, on top of the better materials being used. I didn't list the software features because they are mainly for corporate uses.

  • +2

If Lenovo would let you option a 1600x900 res screen this would be a great deal, but they don't. 1366x768 is such a smelly res. No thanks.

    • +1

A valid criticism and the only downside of these models IMO
Hopefully the new series with haswell cpu will up the res

  • -2

What is special about this deal? I am sorry but you can get much better speced Laptops for less than $750.

    • +2

These models are solidly built, and Lenovo is famous for good quality keyboards. This might be a good machine to buy for your mobile workforce. Not so good if you are a gamer.

      • +1

I have a T420 at work and writing on it now, it's not good really, it has a lot of issues. One of the most annoying is when the batter gets low and you plug in the charger the screen goes blank and won't show anything and again when connecting to an external monitor. Plus it's heavy like brick.

        • Sounds like you need some new drivers. What OS are you running?

  • totally not worth it

  • -6

not worth it, few days ago, dell vostro had 8gb ram, i7 , 500gb + 32gb msata ssd , 1920x1080, radeon GPU all for $719 !!!

    • +2

Dell Vostro has similar internal as Inspiron which are consumer graded laptops. For example, does it comes with magnesium roll cage to minimise the flex? For Dell you'll need to look at equivalent Latitude E6430 which would also start at around the same RRP ($1,500) for a 14" business laptop.

    • +1

No! Just no. The vostro is a piece of garbage.

  • -5

Say NO to LeNOvo. The 1366x768 screen is rubbish for $750

Spend and extra $49 and get this proper FHD screen, SSD:

    • +1

Yes better specs but as people have said — if you bothered to read — the build quality is much higher with this laptop.

  • +1

Thinkpads are the laptop they use on the International Space Station.

    • +5

I dont plan on going there anywhere soon….

      • +1

That's why this laptop is not for you.

A real business laptop that is meant to survice rough handling - performance is secondary and gaming is irrelevant.

  • want a deal on touchscreen x1..

  • +1

If you are in the market for a laptop, just blindly buy this. You won't regret this.
I am still happy with my T420 with upgraded RAM. Thanks anyway scotty.

  • +1

What a ripoff. US T's start at $740, Australian start at $1299. Why? Its not the specs. Shonky ass company. I only bought an Edge for $450 as it was dirt cheap but I won't pay double for a T. And this is the same price as what those in the US get every day. Some deal.
