Canon Pixma MX436 Multifunction $50.- @ Officeworks in store

371

My search for a printer took me to officeworks. They are selling off the Canon Pixma MX436 for 50.- which seems to be a bargain for a printer/scanner/copy and fax combo which even has WiFi. Getprice shows around 120.- for it and on eBay i couldn't find any for under 100.-

  • wonder how this goes with refilled cartridges like i did with my dad and his bc210

people buying these would likely have one thing in mind…..ink runs out——>landfill. Probably the wrong thing to do, but the cost of the printers, just buy a new one!

      • +3

I learned the ink cartridges in new printers only have a sample quantity of ink in the cartridges. So….no landfill option then.
        Laser is better anyway.

I learned the ink cartridges in new printers only have a sample quantity of ink in the cartridges

          Nah, ebay ink :)
          $2-$3 a cartridge

        • ink set for my HP printer (1 black 1 colour) cost $$12, the cheapest in ebay. which model only cost $3?

        • Canon IP3600 about $1 per cartridge on Ebay If buy about 24

      • Not really mine when my ink did run out——> Stand-alone scanner, just plug in SDCard and scan to documents to Sdcard. Don't even have it plugged into my computer no more. Stash away when not in use.
Very useful when claiming offers like those on oz-bargain.

This one doesnt seem to have SDCard oh well..

  • no usb cable?????? Thought it's essential to be included with printers. (though anyone shopping for a new printer would have the old cables anyway)

+plus from me as the ink itself would have cost more than $50 itself. WIFI is awesome.

    • +4

      no usb cable???

That's an old trick. Certain retailers would insist on it, so they can sell a $20 cable to the mark.

      • I can remember in the olden days printers didn't come with the serial cable either - well no printer I ever bought. It was a pain when you didn't realise until you got home >.<

    • +1

shove in the power plug and connect via wifi

you'd want everyone to access the printer neways

  • +4

The $50 purchase price is a minor detail.
What you need to say is the cost per page. If it does not take refilled or cheap 3rd party ink, then its not a bargain at any price. I hope you have a laser printer, and just need something for the odd photo?

    • can third party ink be used with this??

      • +2

yes of course but the quality of third party inks are questionable

        • +1

yeah love pixma, love the cheap ink. manic is totally right.

Have any stores actually got stock? I have checked the whole of Melbourne and couldn't find anything. With OW limited stock usually means no stock.

  • I am in the Traralgon Area and there are some in stock, at least that is what the homepage says.

    • Post code 3844 says limited stock. They usually only have stock when it says In stock.

  • I actually have this printer myself.

It's good and reliable, pretty good on ink usage. I would (and may at that price) buy another.

Canon make the best ink jet printers… I recently bought an Epson WF-3540. Epson have up'ed their game. They are neck and neck now. For $50, this is a great deal. Multifunction fax machine for $50, that is unheard of.

    • Do they still cripple them so you cannot send a fax or scan a doc when the ink runs out or dries up?

      • +1

never heard of such idiotic limitations, i doubt this model will do that

        • don't have a 'brother' printer then
terrible if it runs out of ink of any colour it won't print
blue or yellow ran out a while ago may be because of they try to print with a composite black, but it's ridiculous
now i have a plastic block for as my home phone/scanner

        • look for cheap cartridges on ebay

      • Manic- nope it doesnt.
I was scanning yesterday, no ink left, and was asked by the misses to get some more ink… I check Ozbargain for ink options on the cheap and see this deal for my model printer for $50! I got mine for $100+ from binglee, and that was cheap then!

    • How did you find the WF-3540? I was tossing up between the two of these with the $100 cash back on the Epson, a CISS would definitely be on the cards with either. This seems a little more compact which I prefer but the Epson seems a higher standard printer.

      • WF-3540 is excellent. Best printer I have owned. Fastest duplex on an inkjet printer I have ever seen. scanning speed isn't too shabby. You can even share USB(FAT32) and SD cards over WIFI, mini NAS.

    would recommend canon over hp!

  • can you print from smartphones with these things? using wifi?

    • +1

whatever happened to reading the description in ozbarg deals?

    • Yes :)

Home Office All-In-One with Wireless connectivity and Mobile Printing from Apple/Android devices; high speed ADF for fast printing, copying, scanning and faxing.

      • Just note, you can print from smart phones to this, but for a fax, it must be connected to your telephony outlet or it doesn't work…

    • I bought the latest version of this 2 weeks ago and on it you can print from your smartphone and your mail account and your ph browser. This has wifi and it's only a software package for the smartphone capabilities so maybe you can use this model.

Clearance model. Limited stock if any. No brand new stock available in Melbourne.

  • I remember when printers cost the earth and the cartridges printed lots more pages then they do now. Ive always been a Canon user and only up until a few months ago only ever used Genuine ink but the costs has forced me to use the generic ones which I have now had to put up with instead of the exorbitant costs of ink.

I wouldn't recommend using generic inks if you like printing photos on photo quality paper as its doesn't beat original ink, but if you just print general stuff then its fine.

  • Do these even have generic ink (not refill)? I can't seem to find any on ebay.

Even if it's free, I'm not going to waste my time with inkjets, they SUCK

  • +1

Been through 3 of these CANON printers. I'm done. Won't ever buy another one. So fed up with their Ink use that I am going to get rid of my perfectly functioning one and get a laser or something else.

    • +1

I hear you. I don't print much, but when I do, I want it to be ready to print. Printer wastes ink every time it is turned on and off from head cleaning. I bought an MFC just for the WIFI scanning. I ordered myself a refillable cartridge, with auto reset chips so that it won't complain about the ink being empty.

  • On Friday I bought the Canon MG5460 at HN for $99 after I took in this lasoo page. http://www.lasoo.com.au/search/mg5460.html
He couldn't find this price in the system but matched it anyway.

    • How slow is the printing? I have read reviews complaining about the time it takes to start up and send the print job and print.. I'm tossing up between this and the Epson WF3540….

very very little stock around brisbane

    • That's not a valid excuse to neg

      • If there is insufficient stock it is valid. There is no stock in Melbourne either. There may be no or little stock in the whole of Australia. Not 1 person has mentioned they have bought 1 either.

      • -1

How come you know when someone has negged the deal

        • There's a red minus bar next to their name.

  • What's the ADF like? is it slow? Does it do duplex scan?

  • Went into the Clayton store about an hour ago and they had no stock - asked if any other stores had stock and he said no Metropolitan stores had any, except Frankston which had one but he said it might be damaged or something.

Thinking OzBargain had wiped them out already, I asked if they all sold today… Apparently the last time the Clayton store sold one of those printers was April this year.

    • No I rang 7am and there was no new stock in Melbourne. It's a clearance model. There may only be a handful available.

  • None in Alexandria,NSW (well shows up with limited stock but she said it was a faulty return). She said she couldn't see any in stock in Sydney and those showing up with limited stock are likely returns or floor stock.

  • Cheers op, got 1 from Noosa for my mum. The amount she uses a printer, this will be perfect. Still got a couple instore avail.
