    • hi mshannon,

Not a bad price at all. I was thinking to update to Gigabit-E around the house soon but was put off by the cost of the switch. This managed switch is going for similar a price as unmanaged switches. I don't necessarily need a managed switch yet, but if we ever do get the NBN, it might come in handy so for this price I'd probably be silly not to get a managed one. Most unmanaged ones for this price point are are only 24 port 100Mb + 2 port Gb anyway.

Happy I have until Sunday to think about it.

Now where were we… Oh yeah, the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones…

You can get unmanaged 24 port gig switch delivered for only $139… so if you need unmanaged then save your $$

Can you please let me know the model? I've been searching around and can't find anything with true 24 port gigabit for under $185. Everything I found was 22 port 100Mb + 2 port Gb.

EDIT: I'm having a very slow-brain day. I just realised I was putting the wrong search terms into staticice.com.au. I found a few unmanaged TP-link switches cheaper for about the $140 range. I still think this is a pretty decent deal though for an HP branded switch with a lifetime warranty, but maybe I've been out of the IT loop for too long.

For a laugh I found this one, I'm pretty sure it's a pricing error:

Here's another option I've found cruising the nets: http://www.scorptec.com.au/business/49380-dgs-1024a

While I'm not sure on the quality of D-link, it does have a 5 year warranty and from what I've heard the service at Scorptec is good, so you should be pretty set even if it breaks down.

        • Thanks for that. I'm still considering a managed switch though, and I can't find anything cheaper than this deal through staticice or other searches.

It's a bit unfair of me to compare the cheap cost of an unmanaged TP-Link switch with 3 year warranty to a more expensive managed HP hub with lifetime warranty anyway (although switches aren't particularly prone to failing) :) But like you said unmanaged saves $$.

One of the things I'm considering using it for is multiple VLANs but according to Whirlpool it might not be so easy with this model:
          http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1813024&p…

          Decisions decisions…

        • Thanks Alzori, but I avoid D-Link gear like the plague. It's caused me and many clients too many problems over the years.

        • Fair enough then. The last HP switch I bought actually messed up pretty quickly - it was a low end one on clearance but still. I'm looking for a switch at the moment too, what brands would you recommend? I know Cisco is good, but all of their prices are pretty steep too.

Is it Sunday the 23rd of June it expires, or Thursday the 20th?
