Thats up to the marketing department.
The same oils and same cars have different recommendations in different countries.
But I figure if you can do it yourself, its worth doing more often.
Or just look at the oil. If it looks like vegemite, it is time for a change.I think what he meant was the suitability of the oil to a certain age (based on Ks) of a car

I've asked that question myself and never got a consistent answer.
I figure I'll follow the original manufacturers recommendation, until it starts blowing smoke :)
15-40 should be okay for a lot of cars but not amazing for cold weather from what I gather.
I think this oil is better for diesel engines rather than petrol because the high zinc content of 15-40 can be harmful to a catalytic converter, but less engine wear apparently.
I might grab a few bottles anyway since my car doesn't even have a cat converter (1984..)
As always though, read your owners manual and sere whats recommended.
