1TB 2.5inch Hitachi Travelstar Notebook Hard Drives - $59.00 - Pick up @ Centrecom

370

Part of CentreCom's end of financial year clearance. Hitachi Travelstar 5K1000 1TB - 5400 rpm, 2.5 inch hard disk drive for $59. It is cheaper than the 3.5 inch equivalent and MSY is selling the same drive for $85. Obviously, no where near as good as the Aust Post clearance deals.

Only worth considering if you already have something to put the drive in. If you are after an external hard drive, it is not cost effective to get this.

As Proculeius pointed out, the crazy shipping cost means it is only worthwhile if you live near one of the Centrecom stores.

Also, Astone AW-N290 Wireless USB is $8. It might be handy for people who own Astone media players.

  • Might be a good replacement drive for a PS3 if you're running out of space too.

  • $17.60 shipping rates! I don't think so! Might call and see if I can collect one.

      Nice Screensaver

I love the way the smoke seems to be coming off the top.

That reminds me, I'm late for golf!

Trying to find a cheap USB 3.0 enclosure on feeBay… Found one, but not sure whether it is the cheapest….

    • u beat me

    • why not just go to officeworks and get yourself a 1tb external for $67. much quicker than waiting for ebay seller to send it out to you

      • Good point. So only worth considering for small/low power ITX cases or devices which need a 2.5" drive.

high possibility these are fake usb 3.0 enclosures

the ones with seagate goflex connectors from china are 25 usd on average and i am sure those will perform as it should

grab a case for $10-20(depends on if u need USB 3.0 or not) on Ebay then u have a 1TB portable hard drive!

    • +7

Why bother when the typical going rate for a portable 1TB drive with enclosure is $70-80 shipped (see dozens of recent OzBargain deals), and occasionally cheaper?

  • Just what I need for the PS3 but $22 shipping to NSW kills it.

How thick is it? Just wondering for PS3

      9.5mm,

  • Dang, just bought one of these the other week from MSY to upgrade my Macbook HDD. Fantastic price.

So far it seems pretty stable. Would be interested to see how the PS3 upgrade goes if anyone is thinking of trying it.

  • Any one have experience with this drive or links to quality reviews? Toms Hardware seems to indicate performance isn't bad, but doesn't mention reliability…

hitachi appears almost everywhere, from asus laptops to ps 3's and xbox 360's

in terms of speed, the seagates prolly beat these ones easily

Good deal if you need one for laptop or gaming console. Pitty shipping is expensive. Wish they had these kind of deals in Sydney. Also need one for my gaming console.

  • +1

Shipping is showing as $7.95 for Sydney which isn't too bad i suppose.

    Great Price
Great to put in Consoles, MiniITX PC's , Laptops , Netbooks or USB External caddys

Advantage over Office Works/Retail Hard Drive is you can take out the drive from the caddy when it fails and send it away from warranty or put it in a pc . Over the locked in usb hdds like the WB 2.5" black book range.

  • Bought one for my PS3, seems pretty good for $67 to Sydney. Better than 85 at msy

  • great value now that shipping has come down! very common oem drive btw

  • Just purchased one for my 360 console. Thanks to the reduced shipping cost this represents excellent value. Compared to what other retailers sell this drive for.

  • Rang the Nunawaing store (actually in Blackburn) yesterday and was told they had not received stock, but it was expected after 3pm tomorrow and they were getting plenty so don't worry about missing out.

As I was driving past today I called in at 4:30pm. I was told they did not receive stock and it would now probably be Friday. Also, that plenty meant possibly 5 drives, and no, they couldn't hold one for me.

Theer online page currently shows stock at this store and pre-order?

It was my understanding that retailers offering something on special were required to have stock at least to the expected demand under consumer law, unless stated otherwise.

    Has this changed?

Clearly I don't wish to pay for delivery when I could pick it up.

    • Same here. Checked the on-line order I placed late Monday evening and it has been updated to Awaiting Stock. Anybody have any idea when they expect to get stock? If its at the end of this week, it would probably mean I won't get till next week some time.

Please mark this deal as EXPIRED. Price now $85.

I am guessing all those who didn't preorder at the cheap price and were waiting for store stock would have missed out.

      • And you couldn't preorder without paying shipping, even if you wanted to pick up.
Think I would rather shop elsewhere.

Anyone still waiting for stock to be received? Still on backorder (18th)

    • Online orders are dispatched from Sunshine Centre Com. Which I see is finally listing the hard drive as in stock.

According to there FAQ: All stock for online orders is picked and allocated manually and may take 1-3 working days for some items to be updated on your order page.

I would give it a few days for order status to update, but my guess is it would probably get delivered if showing in stock before they get around to updating the order status as I am also waiting for one as well.

The hard drive arrived today. Well packaged. Time to test and install into my console over the weekend.
