  • Does it include a modem?

    • +1

Nope. "All in one" modem is ~$144 posted.
I am wondering whether you get an analogue line or whether this is VoIP.
Been with Primus before - they had moved me onto "their" infrastructure without telling me, meaning I could not move to any other ISP unless I hooked my phone up with Telstra first. Sometimes their reps were polite, but I have had some very rude ones. I would not go back.

      • most isps will move you onto their infrastrucutre without telling you. Internode, optus, iinet, adam all do the same thing.

      • +1

ahh fond memories, that was my job for a few years… migrating users from telstra to primus.

the big issue wasnt so much the change over, but in the early days telstra didn't have a process to actually move users back, so if you wanted to change providers you were pretty much screwed unfortunately :(

  • +3

Not available in all areas, only available in selected exchanges.

i.e. Not available for anyone on a Telstra Wholesale exchange/RIM/CMUX/ISAM with no Optus or iPrimus DSLAMs.

  • +4

Now that is a direct competition with TPG..

    • +3

stay away from tpg. their service has been shit lately. obviously they are taking on more customers than they can handle

      • I've been with them for 5+ years and they were so good. Then I decided to move to Optus bundle as they didn't have the package I was looking for (now they have - unlimited calls). However after that conversation with TPG the calls I had with them were not so good. Their people answered the phone became so rude and was thinking they did all that just to charge me for extra month when I had already informed them about the move month and half back. Now I am not happy with Optus download speed and stability. However I don't want to go back to TPG as they screwed up the perfect 5+ yrs experience I had with them in last month.

          How ISPs work:

          • Cheap
          • Big data quota
          • Good service

          Choose any two.

        • I moved from OPtus/Exetel plan to TPG. Had a very hard time with TPG in installation and move my number. But internet speed is very good compared to opus. Old internet was so slow in evening … but TPG is good. TPG portal and support is not as good as exetel.

        • @Lycan - unless it's Telstra/Bigpond. Then you might get good service. Might.

        • @tantryl - yes, but Telstra isn't cheap… So there's your two.

        • +2

@ryang - my point was that it isn't cheap, you don't get big data quota (relatively), and that you only might get good service. So you only get about half of one out of the three.

      • +2

I've been with TPG since I was a kid (8 or 9 years).

Haven't switched the phone over but am happily on their $50 250/250GB plan. All I can say is it has been nearly flawless service from them for the last 5 years apart from a hiccup changing address.

I can tell you 5 years ago their phone customer support was absolutely useless - it likely still is. I started exclusively using their reps on the whirlpool.net.au forums and my dealing with them have always been exemplary.

      • Or more likely your telstra phone line is faulty but you don't understand the difference.

Since their last network buyout there has been no evidence of network issues with TPG that were not the fault of Telstra.

        • have a look on the tpg and whirlpool forum and youll see how many people are having sync/speed/drop out problems.

        • yes… because of Telstra phone line issues.

Its actually impossible for a sync/dropout issue to be TPG as they don't own the infrastructure to cause it.

        • good thing we're getting fibre to the node to fix the issue of old copper that we get to rent which doesn't work that is the problem of Telstra which will not accept responsibility.

  • +1

Is it better than the TPG $79.95 including modem (v similar deal)? (apart from the "$150cash back" of course)
    http://www.tpg.com.au/products_services/home-phone-bundle/un…

    • TPG's deal includes unlimited mobile calls to their select destinations, unlike iPrimus which only allows unlimited landline calls. Here's an extract from TPG's website about the unlimited international calls to select destinations:

Unlimited Calls to Specific International Destinations:
Unlimited Bundle and Massive Talk includes Unlimited International Calls to Landline & Mobile numbers in Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, United Kingdom, and the United States of America.

So TPG may be better the deal and they include wi-fi modem router!

      • +2

TPG also have no-contract options if you don't want to be locked in. Same $79 price, you just don't get the free modem. And if you don't need phone, it's only $59/mo.

  • +2

I signed up for this deal recently - the modem isn't free (but you can get one from iPrimus for $129) - or you can use your own.

You get a $150 voucher from auspost - which you can collect in cash / or a voucher.

Great speeds / call allowances - Unlimited calls to mobiles is sweeeeet.

    • Can You use the 150 voucher to pay bills at Aus post?

      • Maybe but either way you can redeem as cash and then use it.

    • Do you have experience with them. I want to find the stability of the internet and it's speed before I move to them. When I was with Telstra land line and TPG I was getting around 20 Mbps as I live so close to exchange. However on Optus line I am getting half the speed now.
So I need to check the reviews from people who already use it before my next move.

  • This has been around since about Jan, Whirlpoolers all know about it.

    • +2

And now ozbargainers know too :)

    • +1

      thanks for sharing then…

  • A better price than it was.
I am on a similar deal with iPrimus but when my old, Limited contract ran out and I enquired about Unlimited, the deal that they offered, including line rental, was just on $120. It was only when I said No to that that they transferred me to their Rentention Team and I was offered the same for $59.95.
I was pretty p—-d off that I had to jump thru the hoops to get that deal. I would have thought at the time that they would have offered it to an existing customer up front, particular since Dodo has a similar deal for $59.95.
It seems like that they have just done away with the facade of the $120 Unlimited deal. If I had just signed up to that, I would be asking for it to be changed.
I did not get a new modem, but nor did I ask for one, my old one seems to work fine. Might shop for an N speed one though, any recommendations?
iPrimus has pretty good customer service, in my experience. A few problems but they have been fixed up promptly.

    • What's the maximum speed you get with this ..ADSL2+ Connection ?

      • Please give us the distance from exchange as well, then only it can make any sense. Or else the speed comparison between your previous provider.

        • My previous provider is Optus cable so that's not relevant and distance I guess is around 2 Kms.

  • If I have Optus ADSL2+ now, would that mean this is available in my area?

  • spoke to a customer representative about the deal she mentioned 20MB/s being the max depending on distance from exchange and local traffic obviously

  • I'm currently with clubtelco, and paying ~$53 a month without a contract, is it recommended for me to switch to this?

    • 2 yr contract if u do

    • Not if your suburb is on the map to get NBN in the next 2 years.

      • living in sydney city… guess we're gonna get NBN pretty late :(, sick of ADSL2+ speeds already

        • +1

          try 2021 lol

  • +1

    Is speed restricted for torrents?

  • +1

Slightly off topic. Anyone knows a bundle that includes call to Indonesia? Thanks

    • +1

      sign up for skype?

  • +3

I'm on this guys. Happy with the service and it's actually $150 cash. Went to Aust post and i handed them the voucher and actually got cash. Pretty impressed actually.

    • How about the speed and the distance to exchange?

  • +1

Now why wasn't this posted before all the Red Wedding spoilers came out.
I could have gotten the episode earlier.

  • Find out first who their wholesale provider is. If it's ISPone don't do it. These cheap deals often seem to be through them. The network is massive congested and slows to a crawl during peak times. Speaking from experience here as I signed up to the Ace Communications deal posted here a while back. The unlimited phone was good but the Internet was really crap, couldn't do anything with it in the evenings.

Edit: their website reads like they have their own network, so could be safe.

  • I agree with herbo, I'm signed up with Ace Comms as well when it was posted here last year…speeds in the evenings are crap down to 2 megabits/sec which is slow…

  • Deep in the details it appears that you don't have to sign up for two years. 12 months or zero months contract are available but setup fees are higher. 2 years $89, 1 year $139 and 0 months $199.

Who even uses a home phone anymore?

    • +1

Did it occur to you that some ppl might have shit mobile reception in their house? Or maybe they're on a Telstra Wholesale network and need the home phone for ADSL? No? Not at all?

    • People that don't want to pay a fortune for mobile services, as well as crap reception (Vodafone) and having to buy their own phone as well? Talk about short-sighted..

      • +1

        Its called VOIP.

      • dont sign up to the major telcos and you won't be ripped off

      • I was getting crap reception with Telstra at home in Clayfield which is only 10km from Brisbane CBD while my house mate at the time who was with Vodafone getting perfect reception and fast 3G internet using a pocket wifi..!! Go figure..!!

I ended up moving my number across to Vodafone after a massive dispute with Telstra which swapped my iPhone 4s two times and swap my sim card 4 times with no luck..

I am a happy camper now and will never look back to Telstra ever again…

Couldn't wait to get 4G on my phone in 2 weeks time..!!

    • +2

Ok, what happens if your net is down and you want to call 000?

Obviously you'd be glad you have landline

  • Its the iPrimus network - they (as far as I know) don't wholesale from anyone execept Telstra / Optus - and most connections would be on their network. I read through WP before signing up, and they didn't seem to have any more problems than anyone else (and most of the complaints were about Telstra wholesale - these are their own network plans)

    I'm happy with my speed, ~18mbit - :)

  • Hi there so can i change from optus fusion plan to this .Only have optus line. Thks.

  • +1

Seems you have to be on a 24 month contract and pay broadband setup costs of $89. (Ordering online)

  • I've been on Telstra phone/TPG internet for about 6 years now, would i have to cancel my services with them or will iPrimus just take care of it?

    • +1

Never depend on your new telco/ISP to cancel your old plan, always do it yourself.

AFAIK, TPG cancellations must be done by you personally, in writing (is email satisfactory?), and you have to give them a month's notice. If you send notice today, you will still be billed for the next month's internet charge. TPG (and many other ISPs) have this in their terms and conditions.

  • +3

i dont think it is that cheap. if they do away with the contract, then its a bargain.

  • +2

Is it a good idea to lock yourself in for two years, given the NBN is on its way?

    • +2

I wouldn't ever lock in with iPrimus.. NBN or not.

      • I've been with iPrimus since the dial up days, never, ever had an issue.

    • +2

Lol that really depends on if it will be the proper NBN or the half baked version proposed by the opposition.

      • I honestly wonder if Tony Abbott actually thinks AT ALL about policy or if he just ticks and flicks forms for cash like a survey automation process.

  • +1

OP: Can you please put into the description the full upfront costs?

$59 to connect home phone if no active home phone
    +
$89 to connect internet (applicable for all new customers)
    =
    $148 total joining cost

    + 143.95 for delivered modem.

Also the $150 is only applicable if paying first bill on time. Excludes calls to 13/1300/premium numbers & other special services & call types which are charged at applicable rates.

    • $150 is only for selected platinum plans

      • What $150 are you referring to?

        • If you click on 'Sign Up Today', it says $150 cash bonus is for selected platinum plans. I think you only get $50 credit for this particular home bundle plan.

  • IMO Telstra's "refer a friend" deal is still better.

    I paid $80/month to get:
unlimited local calls + 200gb ultimate cable broadband + free installation and modem
which is more than enough for an average family of 4 with 2 teenagers.

We tried but cant max out 200gb, even then the speed is capped at 1.5Mpbs which still good for browsing.

    similarly
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/106654

    • Add a few mobile phone calls and you are way over a fusion plan.

  • +2

locked for 2 years?!! No thanks..Especially knowing the infrastructure will probably be crowded after these sort of promotions down the track & ADSL2's price just gonna keep going down in future. I'd rather pay no contract fee for peace of mind..

    • +1

We'll see what happens when NBN gets to my house and I get either fibre or I "luckily" get to keep my copper. Honestly Tony Abbot… no one can argue about not buying what you can't pay for but why buy a shitty old piece of shit car when it's not an improvement.

  • It's a very good deal..
Unfortunately, I'm stuck with Optus for another 18 months..

  • Special Notes from TPG's home phone bundle: TPG Home Phone does not support EFTPOS, Back to Base alarms, Foxtel program purchase via your landline, analogue modems, calls to 19/1900, 0500 numbers and Universal International Freephone Numbers (UIFN).

Anyone know if iPrimus has the same limitations? I didn't see anything on their website.

    • iprimus support EFTPOS, Back to Base alarms, Foxtel program purchase via your landline, analogue modems, calls to 19/1900, 0500 numbers and Universal International Freephone Numbers (UIFN).

1900 and some UIFN numbers works but additional charges applies.

  • Any One who Have B2B= Back to Base Security Alarm Home Security System. WILL WORK IF U HAVE HOME PHONE SERVICE WITH PRIMUS.

TPG advice that on thier Home phone service = Back to Base Alarm Won't work.

  • can not find it of their official website????

    http://www.iprimus.com.au/

  • I signed up in March and have had no issues so far. Speeds really good and never had any down time and Modem has very good coverage in my house(I haggled for 1/2 price modem and they waved the setup!!!). I got the offer via the mail iprimus.com.au/homebb and when I went to check it on their website it wasn't there either?. I'm on the 79.95 (calls included) and I got the $150 cash. I'd recommend it - good service.

  • Guys noob question - I'm on a RIM with Telstra… will I be able to churn over to iPrimus? do they support RIM or am I doomed with Hellstra?

  • FWIW I only pay $40 a month with Club Telco for unlimited internet (same speed as what I got with Internode, but with no limits and at literally half the price) & like $21 a month for basic home line with Telstra. Like many people, I wouldn't even make 10 calls a month from the LAN line, so it works out pretty well in my scenario.

That's just $61 a month & there was no contract with either.

  • +1

If only I wasn't stuck on a telstra wholesale exchange :( only option for me for unlimited with iprimus starts at $129 a month. Bring on the NBN, pity the LNP is going to ruin it for the majority of Australia..

  • excellent! thanks, moving house so this ties in VERY well to avoid me having to pay out my old contract. (if you re-sign a 24month contract, they waiver the pro-rata payout — would've cost me $200 to pay it out).
So I went from an $89 per month (200gb, unlimited phone) to a $59 per month (unlimited internet, line rental included, but pay for all your calls) contract.
yippee. never use home phone unless emergency.
    great deal.

  • Where do we find our customer number? The reference number didn't work.

  • i just went with telechoice, 89.95 a month unlimited net, unlimted phone

it is through ispone i have since found, but it is a 3 month contract, so if its crap, ill go back to 'node who will refund my cancel fee if i go back in 3 months, win win.

(except node im on a regional exchange on 60gb at the same price =( so maybe not win win lol)

  • I saw this advertised rang up organised to swap over gave all my details and then around the time the switchover was supposed to happen from my previous ISP my Internet went down, so I called up iprimus and enquired re the 2 year contract I had signed up to with the $150.00 cash back deal etc and mega download deal etc they re still promo.ing and the operator said to me " oh we tried to call you and left a voicemail message for you" which was garbage as I don't have voicemail on my current landline or mobile. When I asked them so you left a message what was the message etc, and the response was we couldn't do it, and I was crossed off the list. So went through all the sign up yes ir no ir terms and conditions, gave my personal info and some loser rings me up one day supposedly to say we can't do this, and that's it, they cross me off the list, but they till have all my personal details supplied. So don't know hat sort of company this is but pretty is gusted as when I asked o " what happens now" the operator, said"oh organise a callback maybe if you really want to. Disgusted, but was worried they would send me some massive contract payout bill. Buyer beware here, still have no idea what happened here other than got sucked into something to give lots of personal info with nothing delivered as promised. Very strange….be careful guys……not all what it seems here with this promo…….
