I have to agree, those reviews are universally bad.

    • +1

I bought 3 a month ago for this price from DS.
Only 2 of the 3 worked.

Reviews were for old stock. Buy the ones with the SUNFLOWERS image(front & back)!!

  • +1

Yeah saw the reviews, still got 5, I feel dirty.

  • Thanks :)

Read this post outside DS store. Plenty of stock. DS are giving away with a camera, maybe other purchases - worth asking for a freebie :-)

Will load with Aussie images to give away to friends in Japan. Great souvenir gift for 99c!

  • This is bit funny, it cost you $0.99 ea, but you have to pay $4.98(plus $9.95 delivery charge) for a pack of 3.

These will make great Kriss Kringle presents for people you don't like.

  • Don't even try to go to George St to buy one of these, I was in there and an older Indian guy totally 'Brodend' this deal, I think he bought at least 20 but possibly double that at lunch time today.

    • Should ask him if he is OzBargain member :)
Thanks for the heads up, I think the best way just ask for delivery since it was free.

When I bought 10, my local DS pleaded with me to buy the lot. They are sick of them. Place looked like it is closing down with lots of rubbish in bins with "make an offer".

      • which store?

        • let me see… my profile says Brisbania so where could I be?

  • Cheers, picked up 5 at DSE by Australia fair in Gold Coast!

  • Did they remove the reviews? I can't see any on there.

    • 8 reviews showing on mobile site.

Instruction manual is inside the cardboard of the pack.

As I posted, I bought a few of these as gifts. Testing them all & so far no issues. Loads photos, can zoom in & rotate. Of course with such low res & tiny screen, you can't expect wonders.

    Screen Resolution 128 x 128
    Screen Size (Inch) 1.5

Suggestion is to only select well lit photos as there is no brightness control & images are darker on this screen. Viewing in sunlight is expectedly useless.

But they look good displaying slideshows of beach scenes tonight - almost makes me feel like it's summer. If I buy enough I could make a video wall of very small screens :-)

Not bad for 99c. Everyone I have shown wants a few.

    • If I buy enough I could make a video wall of very small screens :-)

Just did some calculations… Based on one photoframe per pixel, for 640 x 480 you need 307,200 units = just $304,128

      • You are diligent! Was thinking of very low res. I did hint at the need for sponsorship at the DS. More an interesting installation.

Musing on "stick-man" drawings, like in flip books. Use software to produce the (up to 100 per unit) animation cells, set slideshow to 1sec & watch a group of them do interesting things. Or wire the photo advance buttons to motion sensors, and could have effect of being followed as you walk past a line of these?? Would be effective in a dim room :-)

    • Straight out from the packaging did you charge it? If so, for how long?

      • +1

Straight out of the package - no charging in the ones I bought (but length of time before batteries ran out varied from 1 minute up).

        • I see. I tested all the ones I bought. So far 4 of them either don't turn on or don't charge. =)

        • See below - there are 2 different batches/models.

I reckon for less than $1, this key ring will be a better choice over the ALDI trolley token key ring.

    • How many photos does it show?

      • I reckon it depends on the size of pictures you put in. If you put 128x128 pixel photos (or ozbargain avatars) with jpg format, even 8MB storage is heaps of space. Though I don't know how big this one is.

        • Thought photos of trollies would be best for an Aldi keychain :-)

      • Mine shows 101 photos.

        • LOL, I was asking about the ALDI trolley token key ring:-)
          Answer to that question: 0.
But apparently 101 on the DS one, only bought them. Definitely more fun & better value than a token you use to get a trolley at Aldi :-)

  • Simple thumbnail sized photos would be best. The software (loaded on the device) converts the photos to .bmp

  • While the slideshow is playing,
pressing up/down manually moves to next photo,
HOLDING DOWN one of those shows a digital clock in bottom right of display.
    Set the time underthe MENU.

There are 2 different batches/models of this unit -
DARK BLUE & LIGHT PURPLE, yellowing packaging, flat battery, different images (2 images: butterfly & blue flower)
works while charging, but did not work after charging & then removed from USB!!!
    20% failure rate for me.

BLACK, RED, LIGHT BLUE, DARKER PURPLE, 90% battery started unit out of pack (4 images: butterfly on orange flower, sunflowers , basket of flowers, 2 birds).

You can tell the packaging apart: (the advantage of buying a few)
old has image of couple on front & back, "Talk to the Textxperts" under Dick Smith on front
new has red beetle on sunflower!!

ONLY THE NEW SUNFLOWER MODELS WORK!!!!

    • +1

So, based on image on pack…
100% of SUNFLOWER models worked (90% had charge)
      100% of COUPLES models FAILED
(worked when supplied with power from powered USB hub)

      • I saw the light-blue one had 'holds up to 60 images' compared to 100 stated on the rest of the colors. The packaging for the light-blue was different too. The ones which failed for me were indeed the couples: dark blue and black. The rest held charge even if I only plugged it in for 30 seconds each.

        • Mystery solved ;)
All of mine (including Light Blue & older stock) state "over 100 photos" on the front of the packaging.
Don't think the manufacturers like Western couples but love Van Gogh :)

        faulty batteries

        • wonder how long these have been sitting around?
Rang my local & put aside replacement units. About 20 were bought by the family after seeing me buying mine, so lucky there is stock left (only a couple a fewhours ago). (All are newer units - had them check.)
And DS have previously offered me the faulty stock back, as it is just thrown in the bin!

  • Almost gone.
    No home delivery.
Click and Collect limit of 2 (just ring your store & put on hold)

  • +1

I finally got mine swapped for the flower ones. They all worked. =)

    • Have posted a review covering this on DS site - waiting for it to be approved.
Took my 3 back, & got 11 + 3 replacements for $10 - they were glad to see the last of them.

      • My review now added to DS site.

  • Mine arrived (2 orders of 5)and were all new models(sunflower with red beetle), 8 were dark purple and 2 were black. More black would have been cool but atleast I dont have to return any…phew! All in all top stuff and thanks OP. (havent tried them yet but going by all the other comments it should be fine.)

    • Would expect delivered will all be new stock (sunflower). Old stock may be in stores so be careful.

Many stores still have stock. Probably thousands available across Australia.
