Makes me wonder why people don't use rechargable batteries.

    • I've still got a pile of devices that don't run too well on 1.2V.
That said, we still use NiMHs in our electric tooth brushes, even though they run slower, I can't stand throwing out all those primary cells.

Not a bad price for Duracells. Sometimes you don't want to use rechargeables - kids toys that might be lost/smashed after a day, remotes where the batteries last ages, travel if you don't want to lug around a charger etc.

    Dear Diary

Another disposable battery deal was posted today on OzBargain. I still don't know why the public continue to buy these things.

Today I checked Amazon.com. They seem to want $12.71 for a set of four eneloop AA batteries. These come pre-charged. They have low self-discharge, so they won't run out of juice if you don't use them for ages, as long as you keep them relatively cool.

Then I saw another deal where they had a charger and four AA batteries. The cost was $18.15 for both. A pack of 4 AAA eneloops is also selling for $9.90. This is all in US dollars, so add a few cents more in Australian. All you require to run the charger here is a 50 cent US-to-AU travel adaptor sourced off ebay, since these chargers are world-voltage capable. Sure, you can get better chargers, but I don't think the guys buying disposables really care; you should be able to get hundreds of charges from the eneloops using the eneloop battery charger, easily.

The batteries are Made In Japan and it's an extra bonus if you're buying stuff from Amazon already, since they shouldn't add too much to your postage. It doesn't take massive brainpower or too much cost to add the batteries or charger to your cart. For some reason that escapes me, people are still buying disposables in bulk packs…over and over…and over again.

It strikes me as a complete waste of money & horrendous waste to dump single-use batteries in landfill. I still don't understand why they haven't moved to rechargeables.

These disposables are a false economy.
