Cause the stock is so low, it might as well be expired. DSE are very well known for this tactic and tbh, does more harm to people like OzBargainers than good.

There has to be a minimum number available to meet criteria for a deal.And yet people negging low stock deals get bashed and abused.
Heh.Many are abused because they say there is no stock, when there is stock. It is just not showing near them.
Its OZ-Bargain & stores like DS & OW are found in a lot of places across OZ - and some often do have stock.
Only a few "Low Stock" (probably display units) near me in Brissie, but 5 out of 6 stores on Gold Coast show stock!
Stock is out there, so NOT EXPIRED!does more harm to people like OzBargainers than good.

The staff said that there is only one "display item".

Wow it was intense. I put through one order at taigum qld for click and collect. After reading all those people's precious comments, I know I can't rely on that. So I decided to give them a call. They have so far received two orders but either of them is mine. I have to ask them to reserve one for me on the phone.
Wider stock than I have previously seen. If you are South of Sydney there is definite stock in Nowra, Dapto and Bowral. Within Sydney it suggests low stock (assume 1) in CBD, Bondi, North Sydney, Broadway, Marrickville.
Could be a rare deal if you are nearby.

There's one at Castle Hill 2154 and 2 at Seven Hills 2147. Spoke to both store reps and they told me that they are ex-display units. One of the units at Seven Hills is a repaired one (refurb, I guess).

Of course stock levels won't be undated until late today, and are never perfect.
(That leads to anger that DS staff have bought it. A DS Manager told me there had been a complaint like that, but they could show it had been sold to a customer before the person complaining ordered by Click and Collect. )

Only had ex-display models in two Dick Smiths near me. Went to Bing Lee nearby, plenty of stock but could only go to $179.

I called the Dick Smith Marion store which had 2 in stock — 1 demo and 1 boxed. I called at 9:30AM and asked if I could reserve the boxed version and the bloke said "Yeah, can I get your number? I'll call you back in a minute". He called back ~50 minutes later and said a customer had come and picked up the last one. So much for being able to hold it for 24 hours. I've had nothing but terrible experiences from Dick Smith's.

That's happened to me with the Galaxy Tab 1 at OW Tuggeranong last week. Was then offered the display model. Bait and switch! :(
WTH? i rang Marion store this afternoon and spoke to a person called John who said there is stocks. so i asked him to reserve one for me.
so how is this possible? so he basically going to give me the demo model?
lol they have alot of ex displays at marion and they dont tell you till you get there. from experience from the mac deal recently. Not good trading!

I normally check the stock around me and find there's no stock within 50km, then happily close the thread. BUT this time there's one store 8kms away does have stock!! Surprise! Now have to resist it all by myself

Is there anyone out there interested in writing a script which would (for example) display a list showing stock levels for all the stores in VIC? It can be very frustrating to keep trying different postcodes to find stock for these types of deals - would be great to see a single overview for the region. Would do it myself if I knew how…
Just phone any DSE. Their online system shows stock levels in all their stores.
You mean speak to a <gasp> human? I get your point but that can be really painful at times, especially when there is a very popular deal with low stock, the staff tend to get (understandably) annoyed.
What I'm looking for is a wide view of where there might be stock hiding. If I input postcode 3000 into the online system it will only show stock in a 10km radius. I might be willing to travel further than that, or ask my mate who lives way out west or east or north to pick one up for me.
It would be nice to get a broader view is all I'm suggesting.

I reserved one (The Pines) then just cancelled it so they should have stock. They said they had 2 that were returned from the factory - without boxes but are still brand new.

This makes the PD10HD seem like not such a great deal. I think I got it for ~$100 after the DX discount. Though I'm assuming the CPU/GPU are better on the PD10HD but I think I'd rather have a nexus device for an extra $50.
Went to my local DSE had 1 brand new in stock came out of store room sorry it's been put on hold. So much for not holding clearance items.
Called few other locals and found they had few in stock but all allocated. Only display model left.
Never have had problem holding clearance items. Just ring.
Of course the item is still listed as in stock, so if you call - check the actual item is still for sale. Its Phantom Stock that exists.

I called Victor Harbor (SA) DSE and they said they have them in stock, when I said I saw it online for $149 and will come and pick it up he said he doesn't have any in stock and to try somewhere else.
Typical. Another common response is: "The computer shows that we have 2 stocks available but I've looked everywhere in the store and I couldn't find it. Sorry about that."

I was looking at buying two for my boys for birthdays or Christmas, if I buy the lad one at 8 years the one and 5 will want one too….so trying grab a bargain, my fella has the Nexus 4 phone and the both know how to work that so would have been ideal.

have 2 nephews. 9 and 7.
last years, my nephews have their own tablets as well as smart phones . And their loving parents installed games. since the, the kids are addicted to their tablets/phones. One year later, they have chronic neck and shoulder pain plus itchy eye syndrome. If the parent take the tablets/phones away, they will throw a big tantrum.what's worse is now they prefer their tablets/smartphones over the parents.
Can't say they don't deserve it..
