    Hello Telstra

  • I'm so gonna broden this phone….. sarcasm

  • How does this compare to the Nokia 520???

    • i will choose 520.
8s only have 4g storage, which you only can use ~2g
      520 has 8g, much bigger!

  • good for those who are already with telstra.

  • Probably better to get the Nokia Lumia 520 instead. Considering you can get that unlocked for about $170 or less.

    • my local Harvey norman had the 520 for $168 outright. I was very tempted. But the Nokia Drive is only a single country licence, and the Drive beta app can be downloaded on any WP8 phone with 3 country licence so really…the 8S ends up being very similar with Krait cores.

    • HTC 8S has better design.

    • yep agree. hardly normal is the cheapest on 520 i think.
520 has bunches of useful and fun nokia apps, htc only has a few..

I bought this phone 4 months ago from DSE for $279
    kinda liked it kinda didn't
sold last month for $179 on ebay
for some strange reason I just bought this one

  • just a teen strapped for cash. would totally buy it if I could.

Unlock it for $10 if thats a concern for anyone, use it for a month or so as a secondary phone / mp3 player / dedicated tethering device with the telstra network / play with the windows phone OS (one of my main reasons I would personally get it)

sell on gumtree for $160 or so for a 2 month used phone, in great condition.

Next 2 months will probably see quite a few ~$200 Chinese quad-core MTK6589 phones hit the market. Think Galaxy S4 like specs for ~$200, including dual-SIM support. Am doubtful you'd even break even with this. http://www.gizchina.com/category/news/

      • +1

Um… MTK6589 based phones are more like Galaxy S3 speed (and that's being nice… the CPU cannot beat Tegra 3, though the GPU is better than Tegra 3's). Some of those phones have the annoying 1GB phone memory + 7GB internal SD card setup.

  • Is 3g on this 42mbps ?
Can it be used as I Wi-Fi hot spot?

  • @rep, my passport shown as invalid? i got total of 1 letter with 6 numbers

    • yup me too, I am using international passport by the way.

      • last time when I purchased bb from telstra, it got no problem

  • @rep, does the $10 credit last 30 days? Can we addon (prepaid) data to the plan?
If we exceed the data limit, does the data just stop? Or do we get hit with large bill?
    Thanks

    • +1

      $10 lasts for 14 days
      And yes data stops.

  • I signed up just for this deal. Can anyone tell me whether this is a good purchase for a first time phone user who does a lot of wi-fi browsing and wants long(ish) battery life?

    • +1

      Yes

    • +1

      Wifi browsing should be fine.

Longish battery life, probably not… battery life is one of the complaints that most reviwers have with this phone.

At this price, it is good for people who want to try WP8.

      • +1

Battery life is what everyone complains about, unless u have a Motorola RAZR maxx(or equivalent). Besides WiFi browsing and long battery life is an oxymoron

    • Recommend the Huawei G300+ for $99 over this for your purposes. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/104420 . Can purchase a second higher capacity battery (1800mAH) battery for $12 if need longer battery life. End solution is cheaper and more practical coming with a free SIM unlock option. You'd be using the more desirable Android OS that's dominanting the tablet/smartphone space.

  • A bit off topic here. If i have a 4g phone with telstra network and tether for my wifi only ipad, does it mean my ipad will also have 4g download speed?

  • No colours to choose from??
Anyways after entering my details n closing the browser twice I finally bought it…
Gotta have a Garage sale soon !!!

  • +1

Oh man. So tempted but decided against after googling HTC 8s storage problem someone mentioned earlier. Seems only 1.3gb left for user and once you load updates becomes even less, and you can't install apps to microsd.. Can anyone sway me back?

  • Was just about to buy it but got to the payment page and no paypal?

    Blerg. No sale.

  • if only this deal was on Friday, I have money then :(

  • Went to order, put the credit card details in and failed. Deal finished while I was ordering it.

  • expired

  • Missed it.

      • Hi bwad, I think the Facebook team have been in contact with you and are investigating. I not, please PM me your order number and I can get them to investigate.

and so Telstra releases the dual-core 4" Huawei Y300 for $129 on prepaid today. https://onlineshop.telstra.com.au/prepaid-mobile/ . Appears Telstra wanted to clear this WP out before the Y300 was released.

      • In discussion with bagman to see if he's able to do a $5 unlock of the Y300. $129 + $5 is better than $149.

    • Hi ruraro, the Huawei launched Tuesday morning and the special ran Tuesday night. Both great phones were available at that price, just depends if you prefer Android or Windows 8.

  • Hi,
I get Beats Audio not avaiable for phone speaker?

    • Works fine when you have headphones.

  • Just got mine and setting it up.

You can't really tell that it's a $129 phone. Good stuff.

    • +1

      I regret this purchase.

      • Change of mind so soon? Whats wrong with it?

        • It won't sync my damn contacts. Took over 2 hours to get my numbers all in Outlook.com because it'd only sync the names and not the numbers. Now my Windows Phone has exactly the same problem.

I'm considering selling this phone before I put it through a wall.

        • What a pain…

  • My order has just been canceled. Debit $129 off my credit card and emailed me 2 days later "Unfortunately, we can't authenticate the information you've provided through our online shop.

This means we can't proceed, so we've cancelled your order. We'll refund any delivery charges and/or purchase amount you've already paid us to the credit card you used to place the order."

I have just read one post in the similar case. Could not stopping thinking that this is just a scam. Still have not got my money back.
Think about it let's just say 20000 people fell for this scam and 50% received their mobile the other don't.
10000 people x $129 = $1.29 million cash flow for about 1 wk. It is not a personal attack please do not remove this. People needs to know that Telstra can be shifty, so they will not be conned.

    • I think you're being a bit paranoid, they're not capable of such scheming, the are just incompetent. I've given up even after trying online to get it resolved.

  • Is anyone still waiting for theirs?
