    Got a 500gb Verbatim 2.5" for $29.99.. good deal?

    • why not

    • I picked that up over 1tb 3.5 hard drive.

Not as good as the seagate 2.5 with usb 3.0 though.

  • Thank you,

I got mine at Parramata Post office with my friends.

    We end up getting 1 x 3 TB $69 (last one) and 3 x 1TB $29 (about 3 left when we left)

    • is that 1tb 2.5"?

  • Thanks OB, just got one 3tb from Glen(Vic), $70

    • Is this the one in The Glen? Do you know if they have any more?

      • It is the one in the shopping centre, but not 100% sure if that's the last one.

  • +1

In case it helps someone, there were none available first thing this morning at the Haymarket, World Square, Flagship and GPO Australia Post locations.

At the GPO, the nice lady there said that she had searched the system for a previous customer, and there did not appear to be any stock around the CBD.

    • thanks :( but saved me the trip! :)

  • +2

I managed to pick up a 3TB for $70. Opened her up to find a Barracuda XT. DOM: 06/2011.

    • I opened up the 1TB goflex and all I found was a shitty green. ;(

  • Couldn't get them for these prices at Chester Hill PO branch

  • Great price, now difficult to figure out where the stock is though…

  • WoW. Why they don't do in all stores. Gwynnville & Figtree NSW $89

    • everywhere I went was $89

    • +2

Needs to be old stock (yellow & white box) - scan to get price, otherwise they just say it is price on sticker/shelf.

      • Not any in Wollongong,Fiftree and Fairymedow NSW

  • +1

You have to ask. My PO still had the old prices on, the lady thought I was crazy but when she scanned they came up with the discounted price. So I bought the last one of each size :)

I think they have two different models, the ones on clearance is the old version. Whereas the $89 ones are the new ones.

I called PO and used the stock codes and apparently there are none in Vic now…

      • +4

        Stock codes:
        2TB 24540
        3TB 26153

        • Yea I used both codes and the CS person told me that they are all sold out in VIC now..

  • answered above by bruce, got a 3tb

  • OzBargain, you cost me so much money. You also save me lots of money, so I guess it's okay.

    got 3 X 1TB from Moonee Ponds @ $29 each.
I left one for the next guy.

  • Well done to those who grabbed this bargain, I had no luck at Adelaide GPO.

  • Checked out at Miranda store, nothing here

  • I checked Maddington and thornlie WA… none.

  • any stock around Brisbane ?

    • Posted about that this morning - only a few 2TB & 3TB in SE Qld at 9am (after I bought a 2 & 3TB from Carindale):
      2TB (AP#24540) $50 at Helensvale (1) Sunnybank Hills (1) Carindale (1 at 11am)
      3TB (AP#26153) $70 at Mt Ommaney (1)
1TB portable $50 at Carindale & possibly others
Don't like your luck 6 hours later!!

      • I went to both Helensvale post offices around 1pm and none left.

        • Stock systems are never perfect, or was sold by then.

Went to a number of P.O's this arvo, ended up picked up a few

    Kensington Park - 0
    Kensington Gardens - 0
    Magill - 0
Norwood - 1 but on hold for someone
    Glenside/Burnside - 0
    Unley - 1 x 1TB
    Mitcham 1 x 2TB, 1 x 3TB, 1 x 500GB

I grabbed the 1,2 and 3TB units and left the 1 x 500GB at the Mitcham store

I wasn't trying to be greedy, I actually wanted 2 of either the 2 or 3TB units to crack open for a server but grabbed the 1TB one cause it was the first one i saw. It's going to be a shame to open that one up, the case is so nice.

    • What time where you at mitcham? I picked up a 2tb from there about 11am. According to the lady someone else had come around asking, but left disappointed. It was only after I showed her a picture of the box that she looked in the back and pulled one out for me.

      I also went to

      Forest Hill 0
      Glen waverly (stop asking!) 0
      Blackburn 0
      Box hill 0
      Ringwood 0
      Burwood 0
      Knox city 0
      Bentleigh 0
      Moorabbin 0

      • +2

Think that was a different Mitcham, i'm in SA and it sounds like you're in VIC

Wth that is bloody cheap. Just last year I bought 1.5tb usb 3 for $120. soon itll be $10 for 10tb

    • @sourgr8p.
I don't care what brand it is, but 10TB for $10 will have me buying them up in no time. :P

  • I got a $30 1TB Seagate GoFlex from Aus Post in QLD. Hoping it'll work with my TV when I test it out later!

  • It took me 3 phone calls to Auspost to find someone who understood the question and was willing to try track me down some HDD's in WA, the correct P/N helped a lot, I was only looking for 2TB as that is my Raid controller limit ideally I was looking for 4 unts.

    West Perth - 1
    Innaloo - 1
    Kalgoorlie - 1

The unit in West Perth could not be tracked down in store, so probably a stock error but the Innaloo device was located so I went straight on the road to collect it, victory! but only one unit…

But 500m down the road on the way home I passed our favourite price matcher.. They wouldn't would they.. But if you don't ask you will never know..

I now own 5 2TB Seagate expansions, the last 4 cost me $47.49, result :)

There is still 1 in Kalgoorlie if anybody needs one, being a post office I'm sure that they could mail it to you..

    • Hey Laura, did they say anything about Rockingham Aussie Post?

      • Rockie did come up but I can't remember exactly what was down there, give Auspost a call with the product numbers provided by brucefromaustralia above, you may be lucky.

    • If your talking about OW I'm surprised they stock the old model or did you manage to get the newer one for that price because they didn't realize?

      • Well, whomever I'm talking about.. I asked them if they price matched on a receipt, they said yes if it was recent, I showed it to them and they said sure.. I asked if I could get 3, they said yup.. I asked if I could have 4 they said no problem. I could have gotten one for everybody here but I only took as many as I needed for my NAS.

  • -1

3TB was $139 at mu Aussie Post Store :( :(

    • If the box was green and white it was probably the new one and hence was not on sale.

Only the older yellow boxed versions were on sale.

  • Got shafted by the scumbags at Canberra GPO (Alinga St) yesterday - the nice head office lady got them to put aside 3 of the 1TB 2.5' ones with my name and phone number but when we rocked up, they totally denied anyone rang them and said they didn't have any in stock. We know what happened here obviously…. Grrrrrrrr…..

    • We know what happened here obviously…. Grrrrrrrr

I think you may have been a little tough on the Canberra staff… (I have lodged a complaint about some APost staff issues)
We know what the outcome was, but not what led to it, that you alude to is obvious!!
Sounds like (usual) very annoying bureaucratic communications / data error stuff up to me.

Did you talk to same person in store, as got them to put it aside? (Always ask for the CSO's name!)
Bigger POs with numerous staff often don't know what each other are doing.
(Yesterday, I had staff find 2 2TB out the back of my local (3 were listed but only 2 existed - PO had just moved & stock was hard to find), had them put aside, and came back to buy 1 - but both had gone. Being a small place (3 staff) it was easy enough to sort out. Another staff member had put them back in the chaos out the back.)

Are you certain it was Canberra GPO that had the stock? (Yesterday a CSO told me according to the computer there was stock at another PO, but when she rang found none had ever existed at that PO! I found she had entered the wrong stock number.)

Also, if you rang a corporate PO number, you are calling their nation wide 131318 number, going through to a central service - not that particular PO, or anywhere near Canberra.
(I have asked to be put through to a particular PO on that number so I knew stock would be set aside - they did not want to do it & told me they would pass on the message. I finally convinced them to connect me as I had a 30km round trip on public transport & did not want to arrive & have your type of experience!)

So if you rang (unless you have the direct number), the person you talked to probably was not even at the Canberra GPO, or may not have passed on the message!!
Unless stock was actually found & put aside, and confirmed while you were talking to the person (what I insisted on), it may have never existed on the shelves in the first place (stock error on computer).

      • And thats why it is always easier to just go Grrrrrrrr!

      • Dude I gave her the exact item number from the AU Post database. She rang the store, the checked and confirmed the stock, reiterating the details of the item. They then took my number and name to hold. When we rocked up, it was definitely the correct store but they denied knowledge of the item whilst denying a phone call. You're right - should've taken down the CSOs name.

        • Couldn't have done more than you did. (Getting CSO name probably would not have got different outcome.) Very annoying.
The PO probably would have only checked their database not stock - there may have been no stock.
As they checked the stock description with you, that eliminates wrong stock number entered / wrong PO.
But denying call to hold - I'd lodge a complaint. (But my complaints have got almost no where.)

Its just that I went through similar issues with AP myself - all simple, but annoying errors. Training staff, I see it from the businesses point of view as well. Seems poor systems at AP.

I'm picking up a monitor on hold at DS this morning - so feel for you. Don't want your experience :) (Will ring to confirm & get person's name, as it is a long trip on public transport if not there!!)

  • I want to North Sydney branch but could not find such HD with that price.

    • homersyd on 29/05/2013 - 09:40 ¶
      North Sydney - none!

      A bit late, I think!
Could have saved yourself the effort by reading what Homer had found out nearly 26 hours earlier!! Doh;)

  • now I realize some ozbargainers would leverage this site to make a living,

    http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/blackburn/components/seagate-…

    • I don't think that came from this sale - its a new USB3 3TB for $110. Only USB2 3TB were $70 at AP.

      • -3

Not true, they were USB 3.0

        $40 profit, meh why not..

        • You got a USB3 3TB for $70??? No one else posted finding one. Lucky you!
But wait - you only posted that you bought a lot of 2TB!!! (So what are you going to do with them?)
Those 2TB were USB3 - but thats NOT the unit being sold, its a 3TB USB3.

All the stock in SE Qld including mine were USB2 3TB
          and…
          isdnman on 28/05/2013 - 18:52
3TB and 1TB seems to be only USB2
2TB is USB3. So that's the best deal.

        • -6

But wait - you have evidence that the 3TB drive was not from Auspost, you checked every single drive in Auspost's stock? Boy that must have been hard work, what you didn't?.. Well maybe you would like to wind your neck in then.

They say that QLD is 20 years behind the rest of Australia, I guess you just have very out dated stock up there..

All the drives I saw had a USB 3 sticker on them, not really any of your business what I plan to do with them.

        • A comedian!
Australia Post didn't have a stock number for the 3TB USB3 on their system - anywhere in Australia (easily done as I checked with AP 9am 29/5 as that was what I was looking for; I had the physical stock of 3TB in my area checked - no mistaken USB3 stock).

So how can you buy something not stocked by AP?
Unless AP received it by mistake in a batch of older /cheaper USB2 3TB (highly unlikely) & sold it as a USB2.
It does not fit AP's Stock Numbers, so not sold by AP.

And lucky Qld - as it was only old stock that were for sale at AP ;)

It was YOU who stated Australia Post sold the USB3 3TB for $70 - where is YOUR proof???
Much easier - you only had to find 1 USB3 3TB.

          I notice you don't even say you saw 1 USB3 3TB!
But didn't you post you bought most 2TB by price matching, rather than at APost which only had 1 per store??
Just because you only saw USB3 stickers as you bought your 2TB - does not mean any were on an old stock 3TB (yellow & white box as shown in the photo) in stock in Australia Post!

        • +2

          And welcome to OB, LauralHardy.
(40% of your posts are about the elusive USB3 3TB!)

I notice you tracked down USB3 2TB stock from the stock numbers I posted ;) Glad to help.
(from a search of AP system by a friendly staff member, trying to find USB3 3TB!)

Thats one good thing about OB - we (usually) help each other get the deal.
Its just when a member posts here, you need a certain level of proof that stock exists in a deal.
And people who buy up deals to sell for a profit - well it does not go down well. (see "Broden")
(But I'm current Prince of the "Off-Topic" posts - suggested by a poster to be known as being "Bruced®").

Ironically, Auspost doesn't deliver. I wish they did…. this is an extremely good deal.

    • Ironic, isnt it?

  • Did Seagate do a recall on these drives sold last year or is it just bad luck if you bought one? I think I recall getting one of these last year, the 2GB with USB 3.0 and it runs hot. I have it as a NAS on my wireless router.

  • I found a 1 TB ($29) at the post office in Mitchell ACT (Canberra), but I wanted a bigger one. Rang Aust Post today and they did a search and there is a 3TB in Yass if anyone lives near Yass, to far for me.

    • Ring first! My local PO had 3 x 2TB on their system, but only 2 in store.

  • can these be disassembled to use as normal drives, or is the usb part of the pcb?

    • I don't think any 3.5" drive has the usb interface built in to the PCB like WD and their 2.5" portable drives.

      • +1

I have this exact 2tb HDD in my computer right now. Bought it for $100 a year or so back

  • the only apparent stock in Western Australia is Denmark for both 2tb and 3tb and Bunbury for the 3tb.

  • Does anyone know if there are ANY in Melbourne or outer eastern burbs?

  • Hello is this deal still on???? And where can i buy this things?? Sorry this is because i m new to australia

    • Think you are a bit late. I struggled to find anything when it was posted.

    • the key to these bargains is get it on the day. and sometimes on the hour, or ITS GONE.
