    I bought the 640GB that MWAVE offered the other week and I used the following link from Seagate http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp… to check the serial number if the hard drive was defective.

    If it happened to be defective you can upload the latest firmware.

    Lucky for me, the one I got was cleared.

  People are weary of Seagate at the moment given the scale of the firmware issue. Suspect you would have more interest in the Western Digital WD10EADS for instance.

  Oh yeah, I did buy a WD drive from MWave and was very happy. (with the drive and MWave)

  Just remember to use Paypal, instead of direct credit card payment, so there's no extra charge :)
