  • Seems like the perfect device with a US VPN or similar so you can watch netflix etc.

    • +1

One thing to be aware of though is unlike some other streaming devices (e.g. boxee box) the vpn details cannot be entered in the device itself, and must be done via the router. This is a drawback if you don't want/need all of your traffic going via the vpn.

      • gave my mum roku3 for mothers day with www.netflix.com through www.unblock-us.com and shes been using it for almost a month now, highly recommended, very easy to use once its setup

        • exactly how i setup. i bought the roku 2 before last xmas. love it. android tv stick becomes more or less uselse.

  • I too am interested. Just wondering if this is a bargain? Whats the normal going price delivered to oz?

  • Not sure how this qualifies as a bargain. US$99 the regular price.
That said, I've had one of these for ~ 6 weeks now and I love it.

regular price, just looking for affiliate commission. not a bargain.

What is affiliate comm and how does it work?

      • If someone clicks the link the OP gets money.

        • Just for clicking or do they have to buy? Is it Amazon that gives the money?

        • well clicks and buys…

  • What's this device like for streaming/transcoding 1080p DTS?
My Sammy TV doesn't seem to keep up anymore and I'm looking for a replacement.

    • Works great with Plex streaming 1080p

  • Not a deal, normal price.

I have a Roku XDS (which is the Gen2) and it has a few issues with 1080p via Plex. Not sure if thats the older gen device, my server or what. Not sure if it supports any other DLNA type access. I would however recommend these for using with a Plex server… mine is great.

  • Regular price… No bargain

These are awesome. I've given one to my brother who's 3000km away and he can stream my entire tv/movies/music library perfectly. Not sure if it's a deal though?!

    • You must have a pretty good wifi router.

      • -1

I don't think it's amazing. Just a standard netcomm router/modem that cost ~$99 at officeworks.

        • -1

Sorry but 3km is impossible. Even 500m won't work.

If you had a very high quality directional antenna and line of sight of the other router then you can manage 1km and sometimes longer if the frequency is not crowded.

        • Bellpop is talking about 3000 km, not 3 km.

        • -1

Good point, I assumed he meant 3000m.

        • he must have very good UPLOAD speeds then

        • -1

Impossible?! Using plex. My HTPC uses the plex media server. The files are transcoded and then uploaded from my end and then he uses the plex client on the roku to watch all of my media. So yes it's 3000km and yes it works perfectly.

Try asking or researching before being so quick to assume you know everything…

Either you need some crazy pills or this is all transferring over the Internet which means your friend could watch from Antarctica or China or whatever you want.

        • I think you'll find streaming over internet to his brother is what he means. Well thats how I interpreted what he meant to say.

Anyway, is there anywhere else I can purchase roku unit at a better price? Im not in a rush jist want to know if I need to keep my eye out at plsces other than amazon.

        • Obviously it's all transferred over the Internet?! Btw thanks fir negging all of my comment when I was just trying to help people out with their potential purchase.

          You're a hero.

You were intentionally making it sound like it was over wireless.

Either that or you are not very smart.

          Hey Sam Fisher mate,

          Here's my original post:

"These are awesome. I've given one to my brother who's 3000km away and he can stream my entire tv/movies/music library perfectly. Not sure if it's a deal though?!"

I'm not sure where in there it implies that it's over wifi. The Roku that my brother has is actually wifi and not Ethernet, but that's not the point.

That's right Sam Fisher, I'm not very smart…

        • -1

          You aren't

Distance means very little when talking about Internet.

Your brother could be 6000km away, no difference.

  • whats the best media player now a days for using plex?

    • a computer.

    • Roku is great for plex. I havent tried anything other than my samsung tv and my roku box, so if there are any others that are good I don't know :D

  • i know, i been using it with an imac, but sound issues
