  • Will it be upgradable to 4.1 JB? Rootable?

  • I know due to convenience, this is a suberb unit, concealed in the dash board

But what are your thoughts about getting a Nexus 7 32GB from TGG for ~ $260 and a tablet suction mount and mounting it.

The nexus 7 has better specs than this unit, the only thing is that it wont be concealed and if you have a reversing camera, you wouldn't be able to attach it to the Nexus

    • I was considering Nexus 7 as an option as well but install will be much more complicated and you still need some sort of amplifier to drive speakers, nexus charger, etc. With Asteroid you can make wheel control work (required special adapter), not sure if this is possible with Nexus. I wish someone could make nice and easy to install kit with Nexus 7 …

I think Asteroid Smart is the best Android based unit available today and it is relatively inexpensive (if ordered from Amazon :))

      • I guess some poeple would have to add on that professional installation costs especially if you've got a newer car

        • Of course, as with any other aftermarket car audio system.

Part of the convenience is to be able to make calls from your mobile via the cars stereo.
How are you going to achieve this with the Nexus?

      • true for older cars
But majority of the newer cars come with bluetooth handsfree as a standard accessory

Everytime u park the car u have to take the tablet with you or risk getting it easily stolen. Annoying to have to walk around everywhere with it.

Car kits can be fixed permanently in the dash, have security codes and easy to add to you car insurance.

Because they are fixed in the dash car kits will behave with howyour carsdesigned to crumble. A suctuon mountor the glasswilll fail in an accident and who knows where the tablets going to go flying.

Then dash kits have all the inputs and outputs needed to connect to your car. If u use thr tablet to talk to your existing car kit it will be limited in what it can control.

personally I would not buy another product from Parrot after buying their $350 AR drone 2. The design flaws were appalling (unexplained crashes destroying it, fly-aways never to be seen again, minor parts falling off necessitating the purchase of complete expensive parts), quickly making it only suitable for the trash bin before any more money was wasted. Not saying this product will be the same, but past experience certainly puts me off.
