Is DSW what their online is called?

Mind putting "online only" in the title just to make it a little more clear.
You can't actually get them in store (at least it doesn't give me the option).

I know you say "+ delivery", but "online only" would make it a little more clear.

Other then that, looks nice for the price.

    • Cheers OP.

  • +1

Awesome, I've been waiting for one of the rugged/waterproof cameras to show up at a genuine discount. Need something for my pocket on flat days - early morning on the SUP, especially coming into whale season!

  • -3

Good deal, sort of a dupe from here:
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/100507?page=1

    • How on earth is that a dupe?

      • It's not a dupe. Completely different Canon digital camera.

      • +4

it was mention in that canon deal before.

      • -1

Thanks letmecry. Yep, its covered in the text - I did say "sort of".
The thread lists all the available cameras on spec at DSE including this but its a good deal, might as well see it on its own.

  • Great deal thanks… Just ordered one to replace my old Panasonic

  • wait for this camera drop price for a while, finally get one .thanks, i just order one. Will bring it with me to my snow trip in july.

  • Great deal, thanks, got one

  • I compared the price with other sites, and this one is really cheap, and I ordered one. Thanks OP.

  • Already been put on eBay by an Ozbargainer. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Canon-PowerShot-D20-Digital-Camer…

    • +3

lets hope it doesnt sells :D

      • +7

Just as long as everyone that wants one gets one. If they miss out there may be some mock bidding on that auction.

  • Had $40 in gift cards from http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/89623 used it on this took it down to $98.45 lol.

If only DSE had paywave AND this was in store could have used ING Direct for a further 5% off :P

  • Fantastic deal.

bhphotovideo.com in New York still sells this for just under $300 USD.
I have no idea how you found this, but thanks :)

    • +7

I know I found it via OzBargain! Another $140 I wasn't planning to spend but sooooo worth it! Or is it…Oh well…second guess later..press buy first before it gets "ozbargained" :)

  • just got 2 of those thx!

Voted best Waterproof compact in the What digital Camera June 2013 magazine (UK)@259 pounds.

    • +1

June 2013 has not happened yet?

      Also this camera is a Feb 2012 model - big claim… http://www.dpreview.com/news/2012/02/07/Canon_D20

      • +2

lol have you ever bought a magazine? A physical hard-copy magazine?
Very common to release them a month before the date on the cover.

    • All the owner's reviews I found complain about the "waterproof" aspect, and the non-existent warranty related to it. It's possibly the nicest looking camera, but the solid review sites suggest its the weaker of a bad bunch. All about compromise with this style of camera. They all suck at several aspects, even top end ones. That said, damn its cheap. Can't go wrong.

      • +1

If you read the 1 * ratings on Amazon for any of the waterproof cameras you will find that the majority of complaints are that water got into them.

It happens to every model with varying frequency. Draw your own conclusions about why, the split between user error and manufacturing problem will vary between models too…

Regarding warranty: thanks to http://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/consumer-rights-guarantees a manufacturer can't walk away from their responsibilities too easily any more. If they advertise it as waterproof it better be waterproof.

I had a Panasonic FT1 that died on me after about 1 year. It was replaced on warranty by the FT2, which died after 18 months. For me that rules out Panasonic as a brand because I know it was not a user error but that their seals decay quite quickly.

Panasonic actually wrote in their users manual that you need to get it serviced every year - but who does that? I did not find a similar requirement in the online version of the Canon manual.

        • Well said.

  • Yay! I got one as well~! Mum will be using this as a normal use camera. :)

  • +2

Thanks OzBargain. Got one. My wife is going to kill me. Lol

    • +3

you'll have photographic evidence then :p

  • Thank you!

  • +1

    just got one!
Glad i didnt buy 3 mths ago when i posted here!! :p
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/93560

  • +3

Lol don't even snow, surf, boat or skate. Yet there's a chance I might… so I must buy.

    • +1

Will go great with your GoPro

  • +1

That's a great deal, thanks! I just ordered one. It will be perfect for our trip to Great Barrier Reef later this year.

  • +1

Honestly did not need one, but hey, looks like an awesome deal.
    Thanks OP, got one! :)

  • For the really picky ones, this camera can only shoot 1 frame per second.. but at that price I don't think it really matters? ;P

    • it's closer to 2 frames per second.
      http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Canon_PowerShot_D20/
" I tested the D20's continuous shooting with a freshly formatted speed class 10 SD card and it actually managed a little better than the quoted speed, but even 2.2 frames per second isn't going to help you capture fast action. Let's face it, a lot of what this camera will be used for is action shots - surfing, snowboarding, kayaking and the like - but also the kids sledging and in the pool - and so the lack of a decent burst mode is a bit of a disappointment."

It also has 1080 video and a fast frame mode (albeit in low resolution).
Sluggish frame rate is its biggest disappointment, apparently, so if that's what you're looking for, get it in another model :)

What a timely deal, thanks heaps!

I was about to cave in and buy the Sony DSC-TX20 for $219 (I know it was listed for $106 here a while ago and I would have been heartbroken to fork out twice as much, but I did not see any better option).

The only small regret: I wish whoever had listed all those cameras in the comments here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/100507 had instead started a new deal.

We could have had the camera a month ago and we would have had a choice between this and the Nikon AW100 which has even better reviews…

  • thanks OP.

  • Thanks OP!

  • +1

I have a Sony TX20 , got from Costco for around $95 (after ING)…this is a better deal and camera ?

    • this has GPS :P

    • The deal is better. But no Costco in WA, so not an option for me :-(

Whether the camera is better depends on your purpose. The Sony is much lighter and more stylish. The Canon will take more abuse before breaking. I need on for snorkelling only and with the Sony would always have worried - 5m max, 60 min max…

  • quite tempted to get one due to the price, but boy this has to be ulgiest camera i have seen!

  • Grabbed one too - will be good for hols with the kids when I want to leave the big gear behind! Thanks OP.

  • After my mum dropped her Canon in a creek, I remember how painful it is to spend half to the trip to find a place to fix it.

    Sole! Purchased!

  • Thanks OP. Great find and I grabbed one.

  • +2

Hope this does not end up like the Panasonic cordless phone deal

  • Been needing a waterproof unit for travel to sit beside the normal use one.
Should be easier than bringing along the waterproof sleeve.
As per above comments, didn't see the list in earlier DS post.
Would have got the Nikon AW100.
However this should do the job in water and windy sand situations.
    Thanks OP.

  • +1

Not sure why I need it but still bought one. ;)

  • got one) awesome for a round the world trip.thanks folks

    • +1

Assume you would want to keep those pics as life time memory.
Suggest purchase a better quality point & shoot for your purpose.

  • Your order is on backorder and will be shipped when available.

    ordered 2 hours ago

  • Amazon UK have it listed for over £250 still. Hope DSE honour their deal.

  • just bought one..very good deal…searched in shopbot all still showing $200+

  • Nice just got one. Gotta keep it for the daughter's Birthday.

  • +2

HN offeren me the AW100 for the $ 107 I paid for the TX20…I bought a coffee machine instead. Sorta regretted it after I got home and did some reading. Too bad.

Now this came up and it's done. Now will someone please explain why one person needs a Hx30V, DSC-570 and and now a D20?

    I hate Ozbargain…sometimes.

  • +2

    Brought also, WTF I don't want to miss out, Hoarders here I come… All the shit I've brought thru Ozbargains, and the phsycologist will ask me the importance of each item;

I'll say we'll that camera was a bargain and so was that one and the other one..

  • This seems good value, reviews seem okay, most also claim $3xx. So for $139 I had to get one. Also $244 @JB, so hopefully dicksmith honours their price and has stock. :-) I need a new camera and have been waiting for a deal to pop up for ages. Ozbargain ftw!

  • Great deal, thanks, got one.

  • +1

great got one, downside though is no charge via USB, got to carry the charger with you whilst traveling..:(

  • Would love to get one but i am really struggling to find a genuine use for it. I have a helmet cam for the snow, and my other pocket cams have never failed me in Australian snow conditions.

I may take one underwater shot for giggles but really, i can't even tell when that may be.

For everything else there's the slr.

    Hmmm must resist…

  • Looks like we get this pile of garbage as well: http://dicksmith.com.au/product/XG4241/#BVRRWidgetID

  • Just picked one up. Hurry up and come back summer so i can get back in the pool…

  • .

Apparently the image quality is not that good - http://www.cnet.com.au/canon-powershot-d20-339331199.htm

    • +1

I had a look at the 4000x3000 jpg's and watched the youtube video at 1080.
Looks perfectly acceptable to me for a rugged camera especially for under $140
      Sold.

  • Try OW for a price beat. Said there was no stock in Victorian warehouse, but other states do have some stock (didn't get details though)

  • FYI as was the case with the user who posted last night and despite it saying in stock, after your order is processed, it progresses to "Your order is on backorder and will be shipped when available."

Hope this delay is not too long. Any way to find out time frames?

    • Checked my order and it says the same. Hope it isn't ozbargained and cancelled.

    • +1

Dick Smith should be renamed "don't stock".
      Same here.

You can try contacting them online. If mine takes too long I will cancel.

  • Excellent deal if you need one. More than 50% less than the closest competitor.
I wish we had something like that for a Sony RX100.
Although I do not think that Sony RX100 will drop much till Canon releases a similar camera at a competitive price.

  • I ordered last night, I checked my Order Status today and it said it was Backordered. I checked dicksmith online and it says it is "In Stock". I called their customer hotline and the one who answered the phone told me that they have no stock already and will not be receiving any stock anymore. I told here, the camera is still "in stock" in their website and go the "oh, it's just a problem on the website, I will get it fixed". They refunded me the money but the problem is I ordered an SDHC card for this already from another website!!!! That one I cannot refund because I will not be receiving the camera anymore. WTF! I thought this happens to small website companies only.

    SHAME ON YOU DICKSMITH!

    • not cool from DSE!

    • Looked like you got dicked around like on their "Dick Live' ads where the ticker noise in the background going ♫dick dick dick dick dick….♫

    • I called dick smith this morning and said the same thing as you, though received a different response.
'Steve' mentioned that they do not hold stock of these. they only place the order for these types of items once they have 'a few orders'.

he explained that there are quite a few people waiting for these so he should expect to see these being orders and received in the warehouse this week

he said he sees this all the time so don't worry……..

he seemed to be confident and know his stuff, so thats good enough for me until proven otherwise….

      • mine was cancelled already… maybe I will place another order and wait??

        • IMO if they cancelled it while you were on the phone (same person) then i would put in another order and see what happens

i just checked my order online and it still said backorder which im fine with

        • Did just that. Placed another order. Please update us if you will be able to receive your order. :)

  • Have been looking for a couple of months for deals on waterproof and shockproof cameras for my trip to Nepal but could not warrant the price of most of them… this is fantastic! I'll not have to even take my other more expensive camera and risk breaking it whilst hiking… thanks so much, this is perfect for me!

  • +1

I was looking up some reviews and now that I come back to the link it goes to a "sorry we've encountered a problem" page. Anyone seeing the same?

  • +2

Page Not Found. I think the deal has expired.

    • Yep. Looks like it has been OzBargained!
      (to use a scientific term)

  • cant wait for point and shots to be water depth rated to 15-20m

  • Looks like the person who's supposed to be expiring this thread is dicking around.

  • Mine still on backorder so I expect it to get cancelled. These bricks and mortar stores wonder why they are going broke. They try to do online and fail miserably!

  • It's more than likely will get cancelled, I can't see them honouring when they are almost 50% the price of other places. Hopefully I turn out to be wrong.

  • Hey guys. I called DSE online support this morning for an update ton the status of my order. The salesman said that quite a few orders of this camera had been filled, but there was no stock for my order and several others. He also said that the camera is discontinued, and would not be getting back-ordered. Hence, I received a refund.
I asked if the system would eventually automatically cancel the order and refund (because I figure there would be heaps of others like me who have their order 'back-ordered'?) He said that every Wednesday the system generates a report of all outstanding or problem orders. So potentially, there will be a lot of cancelled orders and unhappy people comes this Wednesday/Thursday.
I hope at least some people on here get theirs. Another bum deal from DSE. At least the online staff were nice about it. Thanks anyway OP.

    • +2

Thanks for the update. But I think DSE was pulling your leg when they called the camera 'discontinued'. The D20 is barely a year old, no successor has been announced and the previous model, the D10 was sold for 3 years. The D20 is also in stock basically everywhere else.

Maybe they meant that DSE does not intend to stock that camera any longer. That is their choice of course, but when it comes to their backorder policy they still need to order cameras in for us and supply them at the price we paid.

      From their own policy:
"In the instance where a product is not readily available for shipment, we will use our best endeavours to procure the product from our suppliers within 30 days from the date that you place your order. We also guarantee to lock in the original purchase price of the back ordered item."
      http://dicksmith.com.au/help/online-backorders-policy-conten…

      • Good point. As you say, maybe DSE just isn't stocking it anymore. If you don't mind waiting, and don't need the money, it might be worth seeing what happens with their backorder policy. If they do end up supplying backordered cameras at this price, then it really is a great bargain. Good luck!

      • This could also happen too. http://www.current.com.au/2013/03/08/article/Dick-Smith-apol…

I really dislike stores that "keep you hanging".
I really dislike incorrect stock information (I'd prefer Dick's famous "no stock" up-front).
I really dislike stores that don't answer emails after 1.5 business days.

    • +1

      Bad news guys.

Just off the phone with Canon directly. They confirmed that the camera is the current model. Not discontinued.

But: they were overwhelmed by demand and can't keep up with it. If DSE did not already place an order (and it would seem they did not), it would take more than a month before they can get hold of any stock, assuming they order directly from Canon Australia.

That is long enough that they can back out of their commitment to us unfortunately…

      • Thanks. I'm cancelling my order.

  • That is not funny(((

  • Anyone know if the OLYMPUS TG630 camera is better than this?

    • snapsort.com/compare/Canon-D20-vs-Olympus-TG-630-iHS

      • Comparison is wrong. TG630 also has 240fps.

        Olympus physically looks better.

  • +1

Just got offered an Olympus instead. What to do????

Due to overwhelming demand we have sold out of the Canon D20 Camera you ordered from us. We will be receiving more stock from Canon in 5 weeks time.
If you are happy to wait for the product then you don't need to do anything and we will ship your product as soon as it arrives.

If this is not suitable we can offer an Olympus TG-630 Tough Camera XG1036 at the same price of $133.50 for immediate delivery (see product link below). If you would prefer this option or would like to cancel your order then please contact our call centre on 1300 366 644.
