    http://masterspledge.com.au/

link to use to bypass the first friendface page

    • Does it work for those without?

  • So we can't enter till tomorrow even though the comp is there?

    • I made my pledge and registered, just need to take a before and after photo it seems then upload them

      • If it is supposed to be an unfinished DIY project then how can one upload a before and after photo?

        • +1

(Thats not very Logical.) 'Unfinished' project does not mean you have to even started making the project (eg just thought about doing it), just not completed it. I think Masters would love a 'before' photo of an partly completed project - as that is a before photo - before you started this pledge to complete the project. That would show this pledge promo works.

You have until Australia Day to complete the project & submit photos. So photo now, & when completed. Of course the wise will choose a quick project. Otherwise you will not get in in time for a $20 card.

Many Projects (eg 'installing' a light bulb or timer switch to fulfill security pledge) only take a minute - so can take before & after photos a minute apart.

On the pledge page where you upload photos, it lists "Here’s some DIY knowledge to help with your project" videos including how to install a smoke detector. Photos needed - blank ceiling, ceiling showing smoke detector. (One patch of ceiling looks the same as another.)

Looks like you need to wait until tomorrow to submit photos.

Masters Home Improvement hi Colleen, it launches tomorrow. it was up briefly this morning. sorry for any confusion!

    • +2

No. It is valid as from today (2/1/13) as per their website statement:

"Wow, what a great response we’ve had so far to the Masters pledge. Keep them coming!

Quick update for you on the Masters Gift Cards…
We have been thrilled by how many people have made a pledge to get it made before Australia Day. We will be sending out $20 gift cards as planned to the first 2000 people to make a pledge after 6am today.
We are pleased to advise we will also be providing a $20 gift card to those who submitted a pledge before the scheduled 6am start today.
But remember it’s a limit of one each and T&Cs apply.
The photos are not required to make your pledge, but if you take before and after shots, you could end up on our wall of fame and it feels good to know you got the job done."

  • Do you need to upload the photos of your project to "win" it or just need to be quick enough to have a spot in fist 2000 to get the gift card?

    • -5

      Nope

  • it's not letting me submit the before and after pics? anyone else have this problem?

    • Yeah, do you need to submit the pics to win?

      • +1

Yes - necessary to finalise deal
Show us your handiwork. Upload a before AND after pic to finalise your pledge.
Your pledge has a countdown timer to Australia Day.
But The first 2000 qualifying entrants will receive a Masters Gift Card valued at $20.

        • "Show us your handiwork. Upload
a before AND after pic to finalise
          your pledge. "

      • +5

I kinow everyone is saying you do,
but I am not so sure.
        After all it says
"we'll give you a *$20 gift card to get you started."
        T&C says
        "Each entry must:
        i. Include a pledge written in 25 words or less about the DIY project you plan to complete
ii. Include entrant’s name, email, phone number and full postal address
        iii. Not be offensive, defamatory, unlawful or likely to cause offense to other persons;
iv. Be free of any claims, including copyright claims, by other parties; and
        v. Not promote illegal or negligent activity."

        Nothing about completing the pledge.
Its unfair to have to wait til you finish the project, because only the shortest projects would make the 2000 entrants.
And its illogical to say "$20 to get you started",
if you you only get it when the project is completed.

    • +1

Requires a double-click, and then wait 30 seconds. An ordinary single click does not seem to do the trick.

  • -2

the promotion period doesnt start until tomorrow so i think any entries submitted before then will be invalid as the terms and conditions state you have to enter during the promotional period. also, it does not state in there that you have to upload any pics to be considered eligible, you just have to make the pledge then the gift card will be sent to the address provided within 10 days.

    • +1

Um… it states on your pledge you need to upload photos to finalise the pledge. No photos, no pledge.
It won't let you click on "Job done" to submit your completed pledge without 2 photos.

And only first 2000 qualifying entrants will receive a Masters Gift Card. No completed pledge, no $20 card.

I chose 'Security' as project. Put a lock on something, take before & after photos, & job finished!

      • i have asked Masters for clarification. Terms and conditions say to make/take a pledge, not that you need to finalise the pledge. As soon as you make/take the pledge (photos not required) it becomes part of your newsfeed that others see to say that you have taken the pledge so i am thinking it may be enough. will let you know what Masters say when they get back to me. have also asked them to clarify if we need to re-enter tomorrow or whether any entries already done will satisfy them.

      • Or take a lock OFF, take pic, put back on, take pic. :)

        • +1

You didn't think I was actually going to buy & install a lock, did you? LOL
I am too lazy for that. Just want the $20 card.

(Mind you, I do need a set of shelves for the garage - sneaky Masters advertising is working already!)

      • from facebook page today:-
Masters Home Improvement: Hi Millzy, you only hit 'Job Done' once you've loaded any photos for before and after. And this is not mandatory. You just need to make a pledge and be in the first 2000 to get a $20 voucher, based on the T&Cs.

therefore, as stated previously it is not mandatory to upload pics in order to get the gift card.

hi - we just had a quick test of our exciting new January promotion this morning on our wall - tomorrow will be the official launch so keep an eye out!

      What they were really saying:

hi - we just got ozbargained after launching our exciting new January promotion this morning on our wall - tomorrow we will be relaunching in an attempt to deter some of the registrants so keep an eye out!

  • Does it have to be a hardware project ?

    • +1

Gardening is one of the options, or 'Other'
Could install a light bulb - before shot of empty socket, after shot of light on.

    • +1

simple things like hanging a picture that has been laying on the floor for ages, broken fence that needs a few nails to secure it, the garden gate lock that needs replacing. These are some very basic repairs I think we all have and are easy to take pictures of.

    • +3

'Other': Put warm beer in fridge to cool down. Photo of beer in carton. Submit the pleasure of you enjoying another "Job done".

      • Another of my many unfinished projects I pledge to complete.

  • 6.Entry is open from 06:00 AEST Wednesday 2 January 2013 and closes at 23:59 AEST Saturday 26 January 2013

    • It is accepting entry now. Just upload photos tomorrow on.
As card goes to first 2000 completed pledges - description of job & before/after photos, I expect it will be Ozbargained within hours. Main restriction seems 1 per person.

    • …so it starts at 7am for NSW, ACT, Vic and Tas (AEDT)?

  • +3

My front door needs closing. I think that's a DIY job?

    • Quick - grab the camera. Click "Job done"! Collect $20.

    • +2

Did I hear it squeak close - lube it & another "Job Done"!

  • Can't submit photos…

    • Guess it is too early. Starts tomorrow.
Completing a project before the start of the pledge period sort of defeats Masters (advertising) intention.

  • +1

Darn I just pulled a kitchen apart yesterday without taking a picture!

    • +1

Same! Replaced all ripped fly screens without taking a picture!

    • +4

Always knew procrastination pays! $20 in this case.

  • My DIY project is to build a BBQ for Australia Day. I wonder if that qualifies ;)?

    • Of course - Masters would love it! Very Australia Day!!
Better be quick if you want the $20.

  • Google some before and after renovation photo
    Upload
    ???
    Profit ($20 giftcard)

    • +2

T&C do say about copyright issues. (If Masters noticed) - would be disqualified. Your photos may be used in promos, which could be spotted by copyright owner.

Can just imagine Masters crew turning up to be impressed by the luxury deck you just completed, to find you live in a tiny high rise flat, or similar.

  • Hmm it won't let me click on complete job

    • +1

You've uploaded the photos? Can't click "Job done" yet - may need photos.

      • Yeah I've uploaded photo's, one of my blank wall and the other of my wall with shelves :)

        • You have been busy! Others posted that photos could not be uploaded, but probably meant could not click "Job done" yet.
Probably need to wait until promo starts tomorrow before you can complete pledge.

  • Limited to first 2000 entries and it starts tomorrow…. goodluck with getting the $20 giftcard.

I just registered, but not holding my breath.

  • Your search for 3000, VIC found 0 stores.

    • +1

Just did a search for PC 3000 & shows 10 stores, with nearest at Northland.
Can't see these warehouse stores ever being in the CBD.
You've got until 30 November 2013 to use the gift card. Maybe by then you can travel 12km to the store.
Number 10 nearest store to PC 4000 is 761km away!

      • +1

Use the $20 to buy a solar panel and build a very slow single person transport device to drive 755km?

        • LOL I have to get there first, buy the gear for $20 to get home.

Maybe a cheap solar panel attached to a car fan, mounted on a Masters shopping trolley…

      • Number 10 nearest store to PC 3000 is Mornington only 44 km away.
        I wouldn't be complaining.

        • There's a Masters in Carrum Downs (on your way to Mornington) and also one in Braybrook, which is probably closer to the city.

  • My photos are not uploading.(It just sits there with the spinning circle). Is that happening to anyone else?

  • How about something like nothing on the wall.. just a nail. After shot a painting.. dah ^^

Much easier to do than problems that need fixing later like the broken shower glass, Fix the doorknob with missing parts..

  • I've uploaded both pics yet cannot click on Job Done?
    am i doing anything wrong…HELP!!

  • +2

Before - Take photo of room in the dark, Insert new light globe. Project finished! ;-)

  • +3

before & after lawn mowing photos=another $20 off that already cheap electric lawnmower from Masters http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/88857 which makes it $40, can't go wrong!

  • wow, sounds like work.

  • so much effort!

  • can you believe their doing a $40000 promotion?

    • It wouldn't be costing them nearly that though when you take into account profit margins on the stuff they're selling.

    • +1

It would come out of their marketing budget - for a company of this size it's a drop in the ocean. As f4te mentioned, once you take into account their profit margins it probably works out to be a real cost of around half that figure. They would then make this outlay back several times over, as you'll probably end up going into the store and spending at least 100 bucks.

    • +1

The recipients of the $20 vouchers are more inclined to spend more than $20.. I'd say average $50-70 purchase… With hardware margins around 30-80%(tools less, generic/home brand more) it's not really costing them much at all.

      • How do you know its a masters only gift card? I don't even think there is one in my state :S

        • Because Masters are the ones running the promo.

  • What about privacy? Your photos can be used for their promos? Plus it's a FB think. Makes me think $20 reward is not worth it.

  • +1

    its not uploading!!!!!!!

  • nah no upload here.. bit of a fail

  • Can't get the pledge page to load now. Seems like they slept in at Masters.

    • +2

      From FB:

Hi all, as luck would have it, we have an unexpected IT issue with the Pledge link this morning and the team is on the case - it will be back up ASAP! And don't worry - any existing pledges will be honoured! Thanks, Andrea

  • +3

Prior to this promotion I was able to leave a job unfinished for days, months, even years…

When I found out about it I thought, "there is a $20 Gift Card with my name on it."

    I even took photos…

Now I'm left with a finished job, two photos and an inability to click "Job Done"

Can I pursue a claim for Workcover, nervous shock or something? lol

    • +1

Sounds like stress leave is in order.

    • It won't let me click job done either :(

  • Do that state that $20 is for the first 2000 people to take the pledge or to finish it?
EDIT: looks like you just have to take the pledge and finish it before australia day, not just be in the first 2000 to finish.

  • From FB page:
The 'Job Done' button is just for loading the photos. If you've made it that far, then you've made the pledge - all good.

  • Webpage not available ?ozbargained out!!

  • +1

You do not even have to upload photos/finish job for the $20 gift card. Just the first 2000 people to make a pledge.

    • You are correct according to their T&C https://www.masterspledge.com.au/terms

Entries must be submitted through masterspledge.com.au.
      Each entry must:
      i. Include a pledge written in 25 words or less about the DIY project you plan to complete
ii. Include entrant’s name, email, phone number and full postal address
      iii. Not be offensive, defamatory, unlawful or likely to cause offense to other persons;
iv. Be free of any claims, including copyright claims, by other parties; and
      v. Not promote illegal or negligent activity.
Entry is open from 06:00 AEST Wednesday 2 January 2013 and closes at 23:59 AEST Saturday 26 January 2013.
Only one entry is permitted per person during the promotion period. If an entry is removed due to violating any of the entry criteria, the entrant will not be able to enter again.
The first 2000 qualifying entrants will receive a Masters Gift Card valued at $20.

  • How do we know we are in the first 2000?

    • You wait!

  • No issue with uploading pics or clicking done. Did it on phone at 11am.

  • Ok it's working now

    • +1

Not for me at 7pm AEST

      • It appears to have gone down again, their "apps.facebook.com/masterspledge" page has all but disappeared. Looks like someone over there should pledge to do a 'DIY Social Media Promotions 101' course, they've really mucked this one up.

        • +1

dont know why everything has to be done through social media, much easier to do through the website and reach a broader audience

        • dont know why everything has to be done through social media

It's what happens when companies employ 20 year olds to manage their marketing departments.

        • Thanks Masters ;)

      • 13 hours later and it's still down. Perhaps their website needs a handyman?

        • Working again!

  • +2

I, Masters, pledge to complete my unfinished DIY project, my website, by Australia Day.

  • Submitted and all I got was a white screen with a facebook frame.

  • Submitted before and after. It took the info and posted job done- How do we know if we qualify? No email from masters.

I hope they honor this offer- got me off my ass and got the job done on my last day off.

  • I submitted my photo on Tuesday and finally heard back.

    Congratulations!
Your pledge on Masters Home Improvement’s Facebook to get your DIY or home improvement job done by Australia Day was successful.
As a result, early next week, you’ll receive a $20 Masters Gift Card that can be used in-store or online at masters.com.au.
Of course, if you need a hand to complete your project by Australia Day, we’re with you all the way – check out our “How To” tips for everything from painting to building a deck.
Don’t forget to come back to masterspledge.com.au and post your ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos of your project – we’d love to see them and they could be featured in the Masters Hall of Fame.
Well done on making your pledge and good luck!

  • +1

Just got that email, but I only selected pledge type, forgot to fill out my pledge in 25 words or less & did not upload photos. Minimal effort pays off again.

Was a mass mail out "to undisclosed recipients".
So its just pledge & get. No photos necessary.
