DELL 27" S2740L IPS 7ms FullHD Monitor - $299

140

Looks like a pretty good deal for a 27" Dell IPS. About $45 less than the nearest competitor brand new. (Update: PC Case Gear also has it for the same price). (Also, PLE is selling ex-demo units for slightly less). Price fell by $45 since yesterday.

    • Thanks, that didn't turn up in my static ice search. Will update accordingly.
Edit: Hmm… it actually does turn up now… Either I missed it, or it's updated.

  • No NSW Stock

  • Any one know any stores in NSW that will price match?

Everyone should keep in mind this isn't the same as the U2711 which has a resolution of 2560x1440 and includes a larger range of connections (second DVI-D, display port, component) or a USB stick. I believe the U2711 has a "better" IPS panel, H-IPS. I am not too certain about that.

Just be warned, this isn't some new cheap alternative for an Ultrasharp.

    • Yep. That's the panel I really want. Wish it was listed at this price though!

      • I got the refurb U2713HM on the Dell Outlet yesterday @$400. They don't get any cheaper than that…well I had seen them @ $399. Delivery next week.

        • yesterday? did they have it listed on the website? cuz it isnt now.

What's the point of a giant 1920 x 1080 screen, when you could get the same in a smaller size and waste less space/energy?

    • +3

Movies and games are much better on a big screen.

For games, you actually don't necessarily want a res above 1080p, unless you have the cash for a pricey GPU or two to play games smoothly on it. And of course, movies are still 1080p max for now…

        2560 x 1440 is way better for a 27".

If your GPU isn't powerful enough, you don't need to run native res, particularly at 1080p vs 1440p. Meanwhile you still get the benefits of a proper 2560x1440 display in less demanding games, and apps.

If your GPU particularly sucks you can also just render 720p and play pixel doubled.

        • Are there decent 27" 2560 x 1440 at this price?

So you're suggesting I should sell my 55" Toshiba and watch my Blurays on a 20" monitor?

      • +6

Same. My Samsung 51" Plasma 'only' does 1080p. Time to 'upgrade' it to a 27" 2560x1440 Dell.

I splurged on a decent 27" IPS screen and a 680 gfx card to power it - I can't tell you how fantastic it looks when you're gaming. If you're a gamer and wondering whether to pay the extra - definitely do it!

    • 7ms screen for gaming? never heard a serious gamer will recommend that

What 27" IPS screen do you use Wampus?

      • leetec: Where in my post did you imagine that I said anything about 7ms

videoman: Dell 27", the decent ones go for in the 500 range

60 MHz is meh. If you are going to go for a 1920*1080 on 27', you should really get a 120 MHz display. Samsung 950A or something would do the trick. Think they go for about $400.

I'm typing this post on this monitor right now.

    • Resolution is decent
Everything looks good but doesn't amaze like when you're playing with those big iMacs at the apple store
    • Beautiful glossy glass screen but no anti-glare
Looks great if there isn't too much lighting but lots of glare with fluorescent lights behind you
    • Very well designed
      Looks amazing

Another option at a similar price range would be to get the korean catleap monitors on ebay. 27" IPS monitors with 2560x1440 resolution.

    • Korean same as kamakasi?

  • nice price, and this monitor does not use PWM (flicker free), just I suspect the reflective glossy screen may not be good for my eyes.

  • Only Full HD, may as well be a 27" TV
