If you have lenses is a steal. It has been discontinued hence the massive price drop. It has a slow AF system but there is nothing in this price range that takes better pictures.
The Canon EOS M has come up here before, and similarly criticised for its slow AF. Does anyone have any idea of how this K-01 compares to the EOS M, in terms of AF speed and also image quality?

I saw this about a month ago.
I just can't swallow the design and size; I'd hate myself for buying it. Plus no viewfinder means no sale here. If you have an assortment of Pentax lenses it's probably worth it though.I like that Pentax is selling direct for reasonable prices like this.
Great price. K-r is only a little more if you want the full slr, but this looks like great value.
I keep slandering this camera in conversation lately but deep down I'm intrigued by it. Wrong kit for me though and I am diversifying to too many systems do I will have to pass this time
Thank you thank you thank you OP! I've been looking for this discontinued camera since the Ted's deal sold out. I've just bought one for my Dad's bday as he has a whole bunch of lenses from the 70's that can be used with the K-01. I'm sure he'll be very happy with this :)

Owning an old *istDS and having the 50-200mm lens I was tempted, but after reading the review (score only average 69%), no sale for me, link for those interested (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/pentax-k-01/16).
It got 69% at $899. I dare say the score would be higher at $315.
I always do consider that, but then again the review is supposed to be based on the camera's attributes, not the price. But what I do do is, I weigh up against what I would/can get for the price it actually sells at, which right now is a very good $315.00.

This or Nikon V1? I'm looking into cameras that g=have pretty good image quality + external mic support.
These two have pretty similar prices, not really sure which one is the better option…You can also consider the Canon EOS-M which now can be had for $450 (twin lens kit).
Yes I'm looking into that one as well, but slow AF seems to be what everyone talks about…
It is not actually as slow.
Slower than mirrored cameras but still quick enough for most situations.
I have k-x and Q plus few pentax lenses. Is it normal if I want this? :(
because hdmi, full HD video, bigger screen, and probably k01 has AF indicator on screen
