  • Thanks for the forum link :) It seems from what I have read its not a great unit for recording? With difficulties with scheduling. I want a unit that can record tv programs as I work during the night. Does anyone have any recommendations?

This would be for the AN4 and not the AN4M which we've posted the deal for here on OZBargain as the AN4M does not have the TV tuner in it. We are looking to release a big update for the AN4 very soon that resolves issues with the EPG recording function and other bug fixes.

We have really great units like the SRT 6100 if you feel you require a serious DVR for recording TV but anyone is obliged to make other recommendations.

How does XBMC work on it?

    • +1

You can either use the official XBMC.org Android build or opt for a custom Android build such as the one on xbmcandroid.com.

        Neon or Non Neon?
How is the HD processing using the inbuilt codecs

        • +1

          It is a NEON device.

XBMC itself is a bit touchy with hardware decoding with Android devices everywhere at the moment but because you can set links to play with an external player or set a list of them to choose from, you can make content play outside of the traditional XBMC player for proper HD processing. Otherwise, the box plays HD content just fine with any other applications.

So just to get things straight, free to air tv goes to this thing first, then to your tv via hdmi?

If so hiw is it at upscaling and what is the interface like? really just looking at one as a replacement for the slightly dodgy interface of a cheap tv.

The AN4 has the tuner in it, this deal is for the model without the tuner in it (AN4M). You can plug this unit into the TV via HDMI or composite cables but I'd highly recommend using HDMI for obvious reasons. The interface is like that of Android 4.0+ tablets with the navigation on the bottom of the screen with the time and notification bar as well.

You can scale the resolution from anywhere between 640x480p to 1920x1080p at 60Hz and 50Hz refresh rates.

Saw it in HN Queen St, Brisbane store selling $89. Ended up with the $29 Topfield TBF-100HD STB next to it.

Does the Mobile Foxtel Android app work on this?

    • +1

That app is exclusive to devices on the Next G network and isn't supported via WiFi and that includes wireless tethering off of a Telstra mobile device which I have tested.

Sorry, I thought it was the equivialnt to Foxtel Go on iOS. Seems like they are bringing out Foxtel Go for Android (but looks like it will be exclusive to Samsung devices, for a while at least!

        • It does look like it might be a while before other devices see it but perhaps it could be extracted with an APK extractor on a Samsung device and then installed on other devices like the PLUS7 app for Samsung has been.
