The title pretty much sums it up.
An independent servo is going to sell petrol below cost as a response to the price wars brought on by the majors.
The owner spoke on 7 news regarding this.

how much is shipping?
cargo fuel yourself
that will teach them a lesson….
"Im going to make a loss driving me further out of business…. that will show you and your duopoly"
if only officeworks sold petrol…
Great, so traffic will be banked up 500m down the road, car idle for 2hr to get petrol. I value my time. Still a good deal.
Paid less than a $1/l with an EDR offer and mid $1.20/l prices recently, good gesture by an independent though.
EDR?
Everyday rewards (Woolies)

Daily wholesale price of petrol. Selling it at $1/litre is of course an unsustainable stunt to gain media attention. The owner doesn't have a chance to cover it in the sale of milk and pies.
Wow, that's expensive. In the US they pay around 85c per L.
and in Egypt they pay about 15c/litre….
its the shipping thats the killer…
It's not the shipping. Egypt, like many other poorer nations, subsidises the cost of fuel for its citizens.

Egypt is spending US$17.5 billion this year to make fuel artificially cheap, and it's crippling the government's budget. They are very keen to eliminate this drain on the economy.
I guess I needed to spell out my sarcasm better towards the original comparison to the US price (and that shipping it from there to here would ruin the $ saving..)
though you could replace egypt with any other middle east country
You should replace Egypt. It's no longer a net oil exporter :-)

It's quite a drive though to save 15c….
So is Adelaide!! About 7 hours!

In the first photo the service station is off camera on the right. It's a pretty busy intersection during peak hour anyway, but with cars lining up it must be manic.
Actually, the servo that this post refers to is actually on the left further up.
Read mogas rather than on the run (Mobil).
Good luck lining up
