  • $33 per hour. Pretty good for 17-22 year olds.

    • 33 of fuel per hour you mean.

Going to be hilarious to see the results of this survey.

+Other bonuses, movie vouchers, bowling (they must give them away these days). It's not bad considering when you first get your license you make a fair few new friends!

        • -1

Would depend on what you had to do i suppose.

That being said hopefully they do take the results seriously, nothing more annoying then having to slow up 130t of truck because a L/P plater is ahead of you.

          *damn spelling, it doez nothing!

        • Well there is 26,000 applicant positions available. So the survey in general is pretty big. I understand what you mean though!

        • +1

Were you speeding? I'd rather see a P plater under the speed limit than breaking the limit and crashing into my family.

        • +2

          Limited to 100 so no.

Nothing more annoying them coming up on them in single lane highways and cant get around them.

They should be able to do the legal speed limit.

        • +5

In NSW at least L and P platers have 80 and 90km speed limits respectively. It can be incredibly frustrating on single lane highway's signposted at 100 or 110km/h and getting stuck at 80. In some cases I think the lower speeds can make it more dangerous as people do stupid things to try and get around them.

        • +2

I dont get what was wrong with Copie's comments (someone voted negative).

Ever since I got my licence, I never found much a difference between doing 90 and 110. I definitely did not feel uncapable of doing 110 (and before I get flamed, I started on a NSW licence for Ps so limited to 90, but I soon switched to ACT which has no such limit).

If it's to stop kids doing 140, 150 etc - nothing is going to stop those kids. Those kids want to speed, and a speed limit sign that says 40 aint going to do jack.

What those limits do do however is clog up roads and force other road users to have to make more risky overtaking manouevres that shouldn't have to have been made.

And before some do-gooder jumps in:
          1. Simply going faster on highways is not in itself more dangerous. What is dangerous is when you go too fast for the conditions, the vehicle and the driver - this is the crucial bit that gets lost in the 'speed kills' mantra. What is also more dangerous is where you have major differences in speed and limited overtaking opportunities.
          2. Telling people to slow down and stick behind the P-plater if they think overtaking in itself is risky is dumb. People dont work that way, they shouldnt have to work that way and it is actually more tiring to trail a vehicle like that - fatigue is a big factor on highways.

So, in NSW, RTA is the transport authority? RTA is Residential Tenancies Authority in QLD. Weird.

    • +2

Its actually RMS now, Roads and Maritime services, but used to be called the RTA Roads and Traffic Authority.

Going by the areas it looks like it's for those who live in the low income areas.

    • Exactly.

You can smell the pork from here.

      Just buying votes, nothing more.

  • These surveys, if used correctly could provide a lot of information. Hope it goes well.
    Kinda an odd deal but.
To be honest. I wonder how many people that match that criteria read Ozbargain?
    Perhaps more family members do.

Association with NSW Goverment? Couldn't pick RMS alone aye?

I've been doing the survey thing since last year. I wouldn't put much faith in it, the whole program is run by tools. Some of the questions may gather usable data, such as the ones which ask if you've had any close misses. Largely though the bulk of the questions go along the line of 'how safely have you been driving' and 'will you drive safer after filling out this survey'. I didn't even bother trying to answer those ones honestly.

As for the rewards, all mine stuffed up. When I rang up about it I was sent 3 movie tickets which all expired after 3 months. Guess its a good time I didn't spend much time answering the (pointless) questions.

Nice deal for P-platers…not much chop for taxpayers though! ;)

  • +1

Damn.. never thought there would be a disadvantage to getting your P's earlier than others :/

    • I got mine in January :(
      Shame! Nice find though OP.

  • Good deal.
Too bad they rarely put any of this information to good use.

  • Looks like the RTA has been ozbargained…

  • I participated in this and ended up pulling out a third of the way through after they required me to participate in two three hour focus group-type meetings. They bait you with saying you'll receive all these prizes after the meetings, but in actual fact, the T&Cs states you'll be entered into a draw to win them. No deal.

      Really?
The government trying to rip someone off, never heard of it.
