  • Welcome to WNK fest 2013! The ozbargainer who never sleeps, tirelessly searching for deals 24/7.

But seriously, it's a Nissan Micra. IMHO these are as ugly as sin and only seem to come in terrible pastel colours. Not sure if it's a good deal at $35 a day, $245 a week or rent it for a year and you can just about buy a brand new one.

Last time I check you can get corolla for $25 from nobirds.com.au or $31 unlimited km

  • +2

last time i rented a car, had corolla for $35 a day and with all the extras and insurance access reduction ended paying $65 a day. not keen on rentacar specials.

Only a mug pays the rentals companies excess reduction. Get a domestic travel insurance policy with "car hire excess" coverage and it will only cost $30 for a week or so. Check out http://www.carhireinsider.com.au/car-hire-insurance/ don't be caught by car rental company scams!!

      • If I am not wrong, travel insurance only covers MVL. SVL is still on you

      • If it reduces the excess down to $250 to $500, why is this so bad? Its a personal choice but worth it for piece of mind

      • that is what used last couple of times. the problem can sometimes be that you have to take top insurance cover in order to cover the very high excess but still cheaper

additional Km at $0.28 / Km

and then you're paying for fuel as well.

so once you hit the 100km mark you start. 1.5 litre drinks 6.5L/100km)

    6.5 l * $1.30 =$10 per 100 km.
    if you do 200km
    $20 fuel and .28 * 100km excess KM =$48

obviously you need fuel to drive but and extra $28 per 100km for excess K's.

if you rent this at most airports it's already a good 20km to city centre. you usually have to return it. 40km round trip. then if you want to drive anywhere.

additional Km at $0.28 / Km - dealbreaker

    • +1

      Also it's $39 from airports.

Though this could be useful for a one day business trip, given that you won't get much change from $50 taking a taxi. Provided there is free or cheap parking at your destination.

Hang on! The "+Get 100km Free" implies a total of 200km included, since the first 100km is always included in the daily rental. Misleading header!

Nothing "free" here at all. A good price for 1 or 2 days, but you can do better for longer rentals.

And yes, only fools pay the extra "excess reduction" fee. Thats like getting a bargain from Harvey Norman, then sucked in to buying the $80 HDMI cable or extended warranty. (Or worst of all, the "interest-free finance".)

    • +1

Well it would be misleading if it read 100 km extra. You've misled only yourself.

      • What does the "+" sign mean? And it says "free". That word used to mean something too.

        • My assumption is that merchants will charge for anything they can so that free simply means they are not charging by the km for the first 100 km. I'm not as optimistic as you. :)

    • +1

Be sure to get an extended warranty on that $80 HDMI cable…
