  • megabuy ?

  • is this a good deal for an ultrabook?

    • +3

It's not an ultrabook. 35mm thick, and 1.54 KG battery loaded weight.

    • +1

kinda, is not the latest intel chipset, but other than that, solid for that price (I also had the x200, lasted 4 good years until it developed an overheating problem),
also, mind you that I managed to get an E330, which is slightly bigger and on the latest chipset for $450 …

      • I had a play with this notebook in the uni library (borrowed). Quite high build quality and nice display, though I was using a much more expensive IPS + Core i7 version. It comes with MSATA port and Thinklight, which are very nice features to have.

For $380 it's a great university laptop. Wouldn't mind getting this if I didn't already own an Edge E320.

        • -2

Sounds like a completely different laptop - besides the shell. Not really comparable.

        • How is it not comparable? Same model of laptop except with different CPU and different grade screen. Sure the performance won't be as fast and the viewing angles aren't as good, but other things being equal it is an apples to apples comparison. They'd have identical build quality, same weight, same keyboard, same ergonomics / portability.

        • isn't the x series a higher series then the e series?

        • I dont think so, the X2xx series is either 11 or 12 inches, the E3xx is 13 inches

  • Wow that's cheap, but onlinecomputer's X220 probably has no IPS screen.

  • Is this brand new or is it used or refurbished?

  • If you're still here rep, would it work on http://onlinecomputer.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=10… ?

That would be a great deal for a Wacom windows convertible

    • +1

      Hi Merlict,

I had a look and couldn't find the model number.

      If it's a:

Lenovo Edge, T, L or X series laptop it will be eligible.

      • So let me get this straight - we can order any Lenovo Edge, T, L or X series laptop from any Australian reseller, and will be eligible for this cash-back?

        • Yes that's right - As long as the laptop is brand new and the tax invoice has an ABN on it. To be safe just double check the part numbers on our site and get in touch before purchasing.

  • +2

Ah, I wish I needed another notebook :)

    • +4

      ah, the ozbargainer's lament.

Wait til you get more advanced, and rid yourself of this step !

  • +2

    Even at $499 it's cheap

  • Great price!

Why the cash back provided by Powerbuy instead of Lenovo?

Why it does not apply to Lenovo direct sales?

    • Hi,

We work directly with Lenovo and instead of Lenovo managing a cash-back program we do it for them as well as other brands like HP, Dell, Cisco etc.

It doesn't apply to Lenovo Direct i.e. www.lenovo.com.au because we have coupon codes for the site and the online pricing is different to store pricing.

  • Hey Rep,

Whats the time frame during which we have to purchase this? Lets say for example in approx 2 weeks there is still stock left and it's still at that price, would I be able to buy it and apply for the cash back then?

    • +1

      Hi,

Yes you can, you are advised to reserve the cash-back as we have limited amounts of cash-backs to pay out so we will take it off the site when we reach it.

This means if you have reserved it you have 30 days to purchase and upload the tax invoice.

  • For the benefit of others - what size battery is this one packing? The 4, 6, or 9 cell?

For those on the fence - I have an X201, best gadget I've ever owned. These things are built like tanks, yet fairly light (though bulky). Battery life is outstanding with the 9 cell battery - my X201 gets about 8 hours, and that's with a far more power hungry Intel processor. The X220 is Sandy Bridge and will do a lot better.

Best keyboards and pointing devices (TrackPoint) in the industry too.

  • Are we sure this isn't a price error? Online Computer have started showing their Acer laptop prices AFTER cashback (which I think is problematic). Static ice shows this model on Online Computer for $647. http://www.onlinecomputer.com.au/product_info.php?products_i…

    • Their rep is posting the deal so probably not a price error.

      • tks, I had asked them for the golbe warranty and whether it is a new one , not refurbished.

And waiting for the reply now..

      • It is being suggested the computer supplier 'Online computers' may have a pricing error; not the OPs company.

  • Can someone confirm if a standard size SSD can be fit into this unit? Or has it to be mini-pcie type SSD?

    • Do you mean MSATA? I know it accepts one of those

The 2.5 HDD could be replaced as well, but the compartment would need a lower height SSD (9mm?)

      • Yes, it is MSATA what I meant which is smaller and thinner than a standard SSD.

    • +1

Only takes 7mm drives. I think you can fit a 9.5mm drive if you don't use the bracket if not you can always cut one of the points restricting it.

  • Already have a laptop, a desktop, and an iPad, but still couldn't resist…ordered one. Thanks OP!

  • If you are not in a hurry, wait till the last day of June, Gerry may give some serious $$$ off ultrabooks like last year.

    • Could you post a link to that so I can have a look at what sort of deals you're referring to?
      Did they have the X220?

      Cheers

  • Good price! This price is similar to the last time when lenovo did a price error bait!

  • Rep,
do you have the ac adapter for the x230? 65w 20v

  • So is this re-furbished?

  • FYI guys - the pic above the go to deal window is different from the actual unit - actual unit being much thicker

    • Yes, because

      Notes:
We can't control the image that shows up on this site even though it is an X1 this is available on the X220.

    • It's the first item in the notes.
The Rep is from the company managing the cashback, and the image is one of the machines that qualifies for cashback. The deal at the other store is for a different machine. I surmise they make their money by processing cash backs, so when they find a deal on the web at a shop (in this case Online Computer) they promote it to drive more traffic to their cash back program.

      • I used the powerbuy last year and got a $120 cash back when I bought a lenovo tablet.

What makes me hesitate now is the unclear attachement list of this product and whether it is refurbished…..

    • -3

      Actual unit is fugly.

  • hi Rep.
Is this x220 with IPS screen?
and is this a brand new or refurbished?
    Thanks.

    • Is it brand new? - We assume so but to be 100% certain please contact OnlineComputers
IPS Panel - We can't find the actual model/part number so can't confirm so again please contact OnlineComputers to be 100% certain.

  • Wow, that's great- I just bought one for my neighbour. The cash-back offer was only $100 though, not $120?

    • how much does yours cost?

    • The site says "Reserve your cash-back now and get an extra $20 when you claim!"

    1. Is this model brand new?
    2. Do I need PowerBuy Plus when signing up?
    3. Any other Lenovo products available to purchase?
    4. As asked before, does this have the IPS screen?

    Thanks!

    • Is it brand new? - We assume so but to be 100% certain please contact OnlineComputers

IPS Panel - We can't find the actual model/part number so can't confirm so again please contact OnlineComputers to be 100% certain.

Do you need to join Powerbuy Plus - This is optional.

For other Lenovo cash-backs please see - http://www.powerbuy.com.au/refer/165E08C8FB/?target=/lenovo-…

Price error - When we called up to check stock they acknowledged it was a special deal and didn't notice an error in pricing.

  • +1

yeah I am waiting to pull the buy trigger but not until I know it is brand new at the very least.

  • No confirmation on whether these are new?

  • In regards to a couple questions.

    1. Is it brand new? - We assume so but to be 100% certain please contact OnlineComputers
    2. IPS Panel - We can't find the actual model/part number so can't confirm so again please contact OnlineComputers to be 100% certain.
    3. Do you need to join Powerbuy Plus - This is optional.
    4. For other Lenovo cash-backs please see - http://www.powerbuy.com.au/refer/165E08C8FB/?target=/lenovo-…
    5. Price error - When we called up to check stock they acknowledged it was a special deal and didn't notice an error in pricing.

We have almost reached our cash-back limit and will be taking it off our website at 10pm. What this means is:

    • If you have reserved your cash-back you just need to purchase the laptop and upload your tax invoice on our website.
    • When you go to the link it will say this deal is expired - this means it is just not available anymore but your reserved cash-back is valid for 30 days.
  • Am i able to claim more than 1 cashback?

      • If you mean - Can you reserve different cash-backs i.e. Lenovo Edge, Lenovo T series? Yes you can.
      • You can purchase up to 5 units and claim a cash-back on them capped at a total of $500. Just upload the one tax invoice with 5 units on it under one claim.
  • Yes, the website says you can claim Up to 5 cash back, But double check though. But i dont know if its a Good deal though, cause its super seeded and value of laptop should depreciate more then this. And its freaking close 2 k.g for such a small laptop no HDMI port. :(
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKAeXgCZP94

    • How does 3lb's translate to 2KG's? official weight is 1.4KG's and 3 lbs translates to just under 1.4KG's which is very reasonable for a laptop of this build quality. Weight depends on battery pack mainly so we need to know is it 6 or 9 cell.

This is a great laptop I used one for 2 years straight for work, it is rugged, light, opens out flat so putting it into a laptop stand is a breeze and it is reliable.

  • Good price. Here is some photo relating to the ThinkPad X220. There is a weight comparison, screen comparison between the TN and IPS LCD model, etc.

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/lead_org/sets/72157631966265223…

    • Anyone know if this is the IPS or TN screen? OnLineComputer has yet to reply to me.

  • I pulled the trigger on this too, but I'll be pretty unhappy if it's not new since the description asks 'Need a new Ultra-portable Laptop'. I know it's displayed as the X1, but they insinuate it's for the X220, and the specs listed also support that. Also, if you click on the purchase link, it states "Up to 23 hours with the ThinkPad external battery pack. Up to 15 hours with a 9 cell battery". No mention of a 6 cell and I'm hoping for the 9 cell, but at $379, I could live with that. I hate these ambiguous deals; "if it sounds too good to be true, blah blah blah".

  • Anyone not getting stuck on this status after ordering this deal with onlinecomputer.com.au:

05/01/2013 Processing PayPal IPN Verified [Pending (Verified; $506.49); authorization]

Usually my (verified) PayPal goes through straight away - it's been like this for a few hours now. They did mention something about random checks for first time buyers but I thought they also said verified PayPal accounts were fine.

  • I have an I5 version of this with a SIPS screen and its my everyday workhorse (drives a Crossover 2560x1440 monitor at work, and a Dell 3011 at home) and its pretty good. Chucked in 16gb of ram and two ssds (crucial m4 and a sandisk msata), very impressed. Only thing I don't like about it are the keys in some points aren't as responsive as I'd like and my fingers constantly brush the touchpad when typing making the cursor jump around. The screen res is crap as well at 720p, but most of the time I have it plugged into an external monitor anyway.

I paid about 1300NZ last January (excluding SSD's and RAM) so this is a pretty good deal. Want an ultrabook soon, but doubt I'll get something as versatile as this.

  • +1

OK they are brand new, they are probably 6 cell batteries (they were vague so assume the smaller), they ship via courier and these are NOT IPS panels but I never thought they would be. Still a good laptop? YES! compared to the flimsy light weight ultrabooks and laptops around the 1.5kg mark this thing will last a nuclear war. There is no flex on the screen, keys are brilliant, hinges tough as anything. This will last a full 5 yars of university use shoved in a back pack with no cover, will a new $500 thin laptop do the same? I doubt it very much.

  • If anyone's curious, I e-mailed them and got; "Based on Lenovo, it’s not IPS, 9 cell according to Lenovo. It’s brand new."

I can live with that for $379 :D.

    • Ok. I'm also getting the same response from the supplier. Time to buy ^_^

  • Just for those thinking to buy from Online Computer. I got confirmation the part number is X220i-4290L66 so I don't think this falls into ones for the Cash-back offer.

Any ideas? Rep, if you can confirm would be great!.

    Thanks.

    • +1

Cashback was for the Thinkpad X series which is what an x220 is.

      • +1

        Yea… that's what I thought until I see there's a "Fineprint" tab…..that's when the "any" is being revoked….=.=

        • Goodpoint didn't notice that. I suppose if it came to being rejected you could take it to something like the fair trading dept in your state, considering the official rep has advertised the computer as a valid purchase and the use of Any with an * would make their rejection dubious at best.

Of course that is alot of trouble.

    • +3

      That's interesting, because Powerbuy says 'any' X model is eligible but the one you mentioned isn't on their list (3045RP7; 2339A45; 2340A13; 2340A22; 2340A15; 2340A19; 12932HM; 129123M; 4287A75; 232028M; 4287A77; 232029M; 4287A76; 23202AM; 42873XM; 4298R21; 343526M). Would be good to get a confirmation by OP before I buy,

      • As we posted the deal we will honor this part number (X220) of course and we've added it to the fineprint. It's usually automatically done but this part seems to have been missed, we apologize for this.

    • +4

As we posted the deal we will honor this part number (X220) of course and we've added it to the fineprint. It's usually automatically done but this part seems to have been missed, we apologize for this.

    • +2
  • Oh cool. Now I can go buy the laptop
    Happy now.

  • Good price but the Thinkpad x220 does not have an inbuilt CD-ROM reader. Would that be a downpoint in buying it? That's something that I am thinking hard about.

    • +1

well it all depends what you need it for? is it just to install software or to rip for itunes? I bought an external dvd drive which plugs into the USB port to install software, cheap and easy, $25 on special from jbhifi for an external drive or get a better one, ASUS or Samsung for $33 to $50 from pccasegear, MSY or cpl. I don't need to carry around a drive everywhere I go, it would probably add another 200grams or more to the weight of the machine, aint worth it.

  • confirmed as well with company that computer was new non IPS and 9 cell. i took the plunge

  • Cash back works again!

  • +2

I got one at the shop. They have a promo where we can get a pair of headphones too, although it's probably around the same cost as the free postage.

I also got confirmation from the cashback folks that they've credited the funds (although it's not in my bank account yet).

The computer is new, and a non-IPS screen, although I find the screen pretty good for the price.

Not sure how many cells the battery is, but it's not the smallest one, which is a weight saver. The on-screen battery gauge seems to say I'll get around 5+ to 6+ hours when the battery is full, which is pretty good, I think.

    • Thank you for your feedback, could you please post the full part number (you can find it on the carton or on the bottom of laptop), the one posted here (X220-4290L66) cannot be found on Lenovo's website so I assume it is incorrect.

Regarding the battery, does it stick out from the rear or is it flush? Please watch this video to see the difference (minute 2:30):

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHcQojYJggw

  • +2

It doesn't stick out, and I think it's the 6 cell, but someone said it's the 9 cell above. I actually prefer the 6 cell, which is sufficient and lighter than the 9 cell, and I can always carry the power cable, with the extra weight saving. I also prefer not to have the battery sticking out the back. They had an X220 tablet with it sticking out, and it felt like it was an accident waiting to happen.

X220-4290L66 is correct. Maybe it's a special order with a special part number? I tried searching for specs before buying, but couldn't find it either.

    • +1

This is the HD, which seems pretty good… rare to find 7200RPM HD in laptops, even in higher price ranges.
      http://hdd-compare.com/en/hitachi/320gb/hts723232a7a364

PS The computer had a display price of around $575 or so. Apparently, the price was just reduced a couple of days ago.

    • Thanks Aton, your help is most appreciated, it is the 6-cell battery then. Please share your overall personal review of the laptop if you have the time. Thanks again.

  • THE ONLINECOMPUTER REMOVED THE $499DEAL

  • Hi rep

Any word on anymore stock from onlinecomputer.com.au? Or other retailers? Having trouble locating stock.

  • I'm pretty sure mine's the 9 cell, because the rubber goes beyond the rubber feet at the bottom of the laptop.

    • 6 cell sticks out underneath
9 cell sticks out underneath and out the back

      • Yep, I just confirmed with the person at OnlineComputer, it's a 6 cell.

  • Got mine last friday.
some detail of this deal you want to know:
    1. 6 Cell
    2. Brand new(produced around may 2012 )
    3. you can get your cashback everyfriday from the powerbuy according to waht the staff said. So the process just took me few hours after uploaded my receipt on friday.
    4. performance 4.7 win7 rating
    5. ledlcd(not IPS)
    6.HITACHI 320GGB HARDDRIVE 7200
