Dick Smith, 3DS Circle Pad Pro $7.50 Click and Collect

80

Seems to be a good price (clearance for $23 at JB HiFi and $25 at The Good Guys). Stock is available at 2100 near me (Warringah Mall). Also seems to be at Devonport/Bernie in TAS. Other states low or no stock in the capital cities, but may be stock in the 'burbs

Players can now add a fourth control scheme to their gameplay experience with the new Circle Pad Pro accessory which attaches to the Nintendo 3DS system. Players can use specific button combinations for more effective or expert play and enjoy traditional-style controls which make use of both Circle Pads. Powered by a single AAA battery, to give a whopping 480 hours of play time!

"to give a whopping 480 hours of play time!"

That'd cover me for one game of Tetris (yep, I'm that good!)

  • Is the Pro XL on sale as well?

      Tried looking?

      • I did online. I was wondering someone might see it in store. I don't have a nearby DSE so I can't check in store

        • I didn't see it when I went in a couple of days ago. I bought the ordinary one at Waringah Mall, NSW. There were a couple left. But I didn't see any XL ones

  • i got one, thanx :) where can i buy 3DS games cheaper one ?

I heard that Nintendo are not releasing the pro pad for the xl which shows how much software support it will get.

Err.. it's already out. I own one and use it all the time with Monster Hunter and Kingdom Hearts

    • That's only for North America. It will only be available through the Nintendo online store there. Here in Australia (and Europe and Japan), you can still buy it in retail stores.

    • My bad. I stand corrected.

  • What does the second circle pad do?

  • I want a more cheap 3DSs, but that won't happen :(

    • Just try cairns DSE they had few 3DS left :)

      • From Brisbane :(

        • mmmmmmmmm they might charge you for delivery ? not sure, better to call Cairns store :)

I can only laugh at this ugly piece of crap. Great job Nintendo. Leaving out a second stick just so you can make money selling these, while crippling games that ideally require it but can't be designed to use it because not enough people own the attachment.

      I agree. Its an abomination

    • "crippling games that ideally require it but can't be designed to use it"

What besides 1st or 3rd person action games require a second analogue stick? People buy Nintendo handhelds to play Zelda, Pokemon, Fire Emblem and Mario, not clones of home console games. There's a Vita for that.

Nintendo has always released doodads that are only compatible with a small number of games. The Transfer Pak that was only compatible with Pokemon Stadium, the Expansion Pak, Game Boy Player, GBA Wireless Adapter, Wii Speak… This is another accessory that worked with a precious handful of games like Resident Evil, so I'm not sure why you're upset. No degree of uptake on the "3DS Circle Pad Pro" will result in a sudden influx of FPS titles on the 3DS. Nor do we want it.

That's a lot of reason right there.

I happen to like those games (1st and 3rd person shooters). And I also like Nintendo games. Should I have to buy two handhelds, when a second stick would have encouraged more of those kind of games on the one handheld and I don't have to buy a Vita?

The reason there's a dearth of these games on the platform I would argue isn't because people aren't interested in that, but because it doesn't make sense to do these on Nintendo handhelds. The PSP got plenty of complaints too for not having a second stick, because that was the kind of platform where these types of games made sense, except we either got bad controls, or they didn't bother at all. Sony took the opportunity to correct this mistake with the Vita, but Nintendo didn't learn Sony's lesson in spite of all the criticisms of the PSP's lack of a second stick.

It wouldn't have been difficult or expensive to include it. But they didn't, so they could sell you this thing which won't do well, whilst at the same time making it continue to not be viable to make twin stick games for it.

A game like super stardust on Vita is a perfect application of twin sticks which isn't a 1st/3rd person shooter. But you won't find it on Nintendo's platform, because it isn't viable.

I have one of these its for lefties doesn't add an extra joystick

  • No stock postcodes 2026/2031. Checked the George St store ('Low Stock') had no stock left. Are any stores going to restock these? I would pay double the price for it.

  • I bought the last one from hurstville store on forest rd just then. Very happy. Off to play resident evil now
