Monitor Desk Mount $30 (and More Specials) at Aldi (Sale Starts Today, 27 April 2013)

670

Thinking of picking one of these monitor mounts today.
A good deal compared to getting a similar thing in from Amazon, which start at double the price.

The Portable Laptop Table seems like a good idea too. It sells for $30 as well.

Thanks to another post here, those TP-LINK powerline adapters are on sale today and I'm interested in those too. Aldi have a good set of sale items this week, in my opinion.

Anyway, enjoy the deals.

  • Goddammit I wish they would hurry up and open over here…Aldi deals are just teasing us here in Perth :(

    • +2

I dunno why they are taking their time with Western Australia.

I'm thinking it must be some business reason because they have plenty of stores elsewhere. I have 3 within ~5km of me. Sorry to tease and/or torture my fellow west aussies with posts like this.

Hopefully they open one soon in your neck of the woods. They are pretty good value.

      • +1

Actually my memory from working at a head office of a Coles Myer company was that dealing with the WA Govt if you weren't a WA company in retail was a massive headache and they'd put a lot of financial barriers in your way. Remember when HN decided to open on a Sunday there and they got hit with a massive fine?

        • +2

Dont know why people negged me. I'm not anti-WA, I am actually from Perth

      • Same thing with QLD we ain't got no Aldi. Coles and Woolworths instantly see us as easy game.

        • We have tons of Aldi stores in QLD?

    • +6

I think it's more to do with their distribution network than anything else..

      • Good point!

Assuming that monitor arm is metal, that's pretty comparable to the arms I install at work and charge $320 each for. That's a very good price!

    • It is metal, bought one earlier today :)

  • anyway, is there anyway to get one like that for a imac 27"?

  • sorry but how is this attached to your desk? do you need to drill a hole or screw it on or is it a clamp like device?

    • +1

They're in the car boot but I believe it was g-clamps.

      • +1

ah i found a manual showing some images on how to install
        yeah you're right its a g clamp

so next question, are all pc monitors compatible with that connector that goes in the middle of the back of the monitor?

        http://ebookbrowse.com/dm41912-bauhn-adjustable-desk-mount-g…

        • It claims to be a universal mount so I just assumed that it would be compatible with vesa monitors. Check that back of your monitor for screw holes.

        • Compatible with most monitors I've seen (just needs to have verse mount screw holes on it)

    • Pull the trigger & find out! If it's not suitable, simply return it - you get 60 days for returns. I'm hoping to get one later, if I'm not already too late. Will let you know how it mounts, if I jag one. Looks to me like it clamps onto desktop with a screw clamp.

  • +56

    "Monitor not included"

Looks like it comes with the desk then. Sweet.

  • One question, how do you mount these on your screen? I have a 5 year old monitor, will this work with it?

    • +2

Vesa mount holes on back of monitor.

    • buy some 30mm screws from Bunnings and screw into the back of the monitor……

      • +7

The monitor needs to support the VESA standard. Otherwise you're screwed.

        • AHAHAAHAHA I GIGGLED.

      • +5

Actually it comes with the screws.

        • +4

..and a desk but no monitor. Complicated stuff.

  • Good one, but didn't find stock at Aldi Chadstone SC, may be I didn't see them.

    • +1

At southland they were at the front side of the store next to the cash registers with the rest of the computer stuff. Was walking up and down the middle for a while before I found a staff member to ask.

  • When are you [Aldi] gonna come to WA?

  • +3

I bought one and mounted my Kogan 24" LED TV to a shelf in our bedroom cupboard. It's all metal and pretty sturdy. The VESA mount that controls tilt was too loose on mine and the screen would just flop down. I had to remove the nut holding that rotating joint as it was not put on properly then put it back and tighten. Now it's perfect.

I also grabbed the EoP adaptors but haven't tested them yet.

    • I'm having the same problem; the thing just keeps tilting and never sits as there's not enough friction for it.

I also had to file down the mount a bit that connects the monitor to the stand as it never went in far enough for me to screw the 2 screws in.

If I can get the tilt fixed then I'll be happy.

      • +1

Just tighten up the bolt behind the VESA mount on your monitor. Fixed mine right up.

    Status report
    I just bought two.

For those who asked about the clamp:
Clamp that sits on the desk has rubbery underside to protect the table top surface. The bottom part of the clamp that rests against the underside of the table is just bare metal (no rubbery surface). Anyway, the table clamp alone (without the arm) weighs in at 835 grams, according to my China hanging scale (measuring in 5 gram increments). Nice heft and has a wide surface area. I have no concerns about build quality. All other main parts of the arm appear to be heavy steel as well (box is small but heavy).

I haven't mounted the thing to my monitor yet, but I checked out the box contents and all parts appear to be built VERY solidly. I'd rank it a very good deal.

    go get 'em
I'm sad to hear that the laptop table I wanted as well as the TP-LINK goodies were SOLD OUT at my local store (despite being just hours into the sale), but there were enough monitor arms around, thank goodness. Several different non-objectionable understated laptop bags and other goodies available for decent prices too ($25).

    Summary
    Well worth getting :)

    • +1

Just installed mine with a 24" LCD. The arm is great, probably a good idea to tighten the bolt on the back of the vesa portion that attaches to the monitor itself or your monitor will tilt forward under it's own weight.

If anyone has any questions just ask!

    • +1

I bought two, a few things to be aware of:

The "C" clamp where it attaches to your desk is pretty big. I don't know if it will fit in the standard cable hole most desks seem to have nowdays. Also if your desk has a modesty panel the desktop lip might not be wide enough to handle this if you want to attach it to the back of the desk.

The top screw at the top of the pole is plastic and probably wont last long. Once I get the right height I'll drill it out and put a metal screw / bolt in.

On one of mine the upright pole didn't go all the way into the C clamp part, which meant the screws to attach it didn't line up. A quick inverted whack on the floor fixed this.

  • Even though it says 10" to 24", will it handle a 27" Korean monitor?

    • +1

      Handel's up to 15KG's

    • I have my 27" Samsung setup on it. The problem is the height adjustment. I have it at the max setting plus (2 screws left in place as shipped on the back of the monitor mount give me an extra 15mm). Bottom viewable edge of monitor is 14cm above desk. It is acceptable but I would be more comfortable with it 1 or 2cm higher.

I am considering placing a piece of wood between the g-clamp and top of the desk. The g-clamp is large enough to raise it a couple of cms without affecting stability, I hope.

      • I'm planning on doing that do as it's fractionally to low. Getting a slightly larger (area wise) piece of wood will also spread out the presure it puts on your desk.

If you need more you can also get a bit of SOLID wood and offset the VESA mount screw points so you screw the wood into the mount attachment and then drill holes into the wood for the monitor to connect to the wood at a higher/lower location.

  • +1

I purchased the portable laptop table and its pretty good. Assembled it up in about 15 mins with just a screw driver. Very stable. Good build quality for $30.

    • +1

Planning to use my table with a wireless keyboard and mouse in front of my TV, which has my gaming PC attached.

  • Monitor mount pretty good. Though mine has the screws in the VESA bit you attach to the monitor and doesn't slide in all the way. Can't seem to screw them out. :S

    • +1

There are 2 screws on the back of the vesa mount that slides into the handle bar thingy, remove those first, slide it in, re-screw. I had to find a bigger screw driver to do it as the one I normally use for computer stuff was scraping away at the metal.

      • No you don't get it. There's a fault with one of the screws. Seems they were screwed in at some prior location and one of them is busted so it won't come out. Just spins and spins and spins.

Taking it back now. Also getting a 2nd one, one for each monitor….or my girlfriend….depending if she like em.

        • +1

I'm not sure you have the right idea when people told you to 'mount' your girlfriend. :p

Bad jokes aside, fair enough although I'm not sure which screw you're referring too. Assuming that it's working as intended (which seems like it's not) the 2 screws I'm referring too look straight forward to remove and you should have full view of the entire thing no problems.

        • +1

It's the two screws that are screwed into the mount piece that you have to unscrew and then screw in place (if you want) after you slot the monitor in.

It was a fault with the screw. Got a new one and it's fine now.

        • I can confirm - this same thing happened to me too. I bought three of them, one for my twin 24" setup and the 3rd was for my kids 22" LCD.

One of them had the exact same issue - in my case BOTH of those screws in the vesa bracket would just freely spin, but not come out. I tried pushing the screw from underneath while I attempted to unscrew it - no dice. Took it back for replacement.

  • Just checked Aldi Mornington; they had about a dozen of the laptop and monitor stands.

They also had the 2.1 speakers, the bluetooth keyboard, the whiteboard, the bike stuff, the lamp, and the headphone/keyboard/whatever pack as well.

Couldn't find the car charger though which is what I wanted most, but I'll check Frankston store tomorrow.

  • Just wondering if this monitor mount does rotation as well? I'm guessing not going by the specs on the Aldi website, but I figured I'd ask anyway just in case :)

    • You mean between rotating between portrait and landscape orientation, right?

According to this probably not: http://ebookbrowse.com/dm41912-bauhn-adjustable-desk-mount-g…

      • Yep and bugger. Oh well, at that price, you can't ask for too much. Thanks for the reply.

        • +1

          It rotates.
The question is whether your monitor will be too big and hit the desk when doing so.

    • +3

Yes it does. Thought height may be an issue ( see my comment above). The center of my vesa mount is 36cm above the desk at max+ height.

    • +1

Definitely a bargain. Probably Aldi's best this year.

    • +1

Yes it does rotate well, horizontally and vertically. Works well with my 23" in vertical.

      • Thanks for the replies Crushader and Bob Roberts. I have a 25.5" 16:10, so I might see if I can find one and see how it goes :)

        • Also if height is an issue if you could make the monitor overhang whatever it's mounted on then it wouldn't be a problem. But not many people have raised platforms on their desk or are willing to make it go beyond the edge of their desk.

  • Did anyone happen to see what model the TP Link router was?

    • TL-WR841ND

I considered getting one, but couldn't find a price….how much are they advertised for?

    • I'm talking from experience with TP Link, their router software is one the worst I've ever used. If that doesn't effect you then go ahead and buy but for that price you're better off getting something reputable.

      • Not after one myself, but I heard my brother mentioning getting one (not sure on model) for his BigPond cable. Something about needing to be compatible with BigPond's login (?), I'm on TPG so I've got no idea but he seems to reckon not all routers are compatible.

      • +1

you can put OpenWRT on it (or possibly Gargoyle) so that fixes that problem.

  • +2

This will go VERY well with my x6 monitors!

  • Does it tilt upwards?

    • +1

Barely; I'd say the most it'd do is 45 degrees.

When you get it you'll have to screw it in as tight as your hands are capable of to get it to sit at any particular angle.

You can rotate it to be portrait, not that that helps facing upwards, but otherwise you're pretty limited for getting it to face upwards.

    • tilting
Yes, it can be tilted up and down from the normal vertical position, but nothing extreme; just small deviations from vertical but enough for nearly all normal uses, I reckon. I'd say around 20 degrees deviation from vertical in each direction.

It can be rotated from landscape to portrait easily too (at least it can on my smaller monitor; larger monitors may have a much smaller clearance with the desktop!).

It tilts up & down just enough to get a comfortable reading angle; nothing extreme.

      assembly notes
If your monitor sags, the VESA mount (Universal Bracket) might need tightening (that is the metal plate that is screwed onto the monitor). Mine needed to be tightened a bit to prevent monitor sag; cheers for the tip in the comments above. I love the comments here. Then the monitor tilt was solid with no sag.

The unit comes with a bunch of screws in plastic pockets labelled A, B, C and D (D contains 4 washers, the rest contain 4 screws in each pocket, with each letter of the alphabet denoting a bigger size of screw).

The 4 screws that came in the plastic pocket labelled 'A' would fit in my monitor's screw holes, but they were too long to fit without jiggling here (your mileage may vary). The supplied washers were too thin to raise the height of the screws, so there was a gap between the screw-tops and the VESA mount, resulting in a loose and jiggly fit on my monitor. I had to raise the height of the screws with a little hex nut on each screw, then proceed to screw it in my monitor. It then mounted magically; nice and tight. Your monitor may have deeper screw holes, allowing the tops of the screws to make a solid press against the VESA mount for a tight fit, but I had to do a little DIY with those hex nuts that I supplied myself.

The surplus screws in pockets B and C I didn't use for my particular monitor; it's nice to see they were supplied though. It would be nice to see hex nuts included too, in cases like mine. Perhaps for the future?

      Step 8 of the instructions
In Step 8 (the last step of the instructions), they should mention that you need to take out the 2 screws on the back of the VESA mount before you can fully slide the mount in and secure it with those screws, but it's no biggie; it should be pretty obvious. If this doesn't make sense, it'll all make sense as you assemble it. It really is pretty easy. These screws were a pretty tight fit, so I had to put my puny powered screwdriver down and do it the manual way.

Those niggles aside, I am extremely impressed with the quality of the item and the generally good instructions.

  • This can make me feel like Iron man even more, yes?

  • I picked up the laptop table today.
I hate flat pack stuff but it turned out ok.
Pretty happy with it actually will be good for doing some work in the living room while keeping an eye on the kids.

I Like the laptop base tilt good for watching movies and any angle.

    • Yeah, I reckon the laptop table is pretty good too. I can see it being used for ipads / tablets and food too, especially when lounging about. Assembled mine yesterday.

In the last step when putting on the wheels, I didn't know there were 3 lockable wheels and 2 that weren't lockable (initially I thought they were all the same wheels, so I just put them on without thinking). But I had to re-arrange the wheels in the last step of assembly to 'go by the book'. Putting them on also required some pressing force so they could be screwed in all the way down otherwise they wouldn't screw in properly. Then I tightened with the supplied mini-spanner. Pretty good little table assembled in a bit over an hour.

I'm not sure why the instructions insisted on a tape measure, unless it was to measure the size of some screws so you didn't use the wrong ones. Once you made sense of which screws and other parts to use (and not confuse them with others), it was pretty straightforward to assemble.

      Good deal for 30 bucks.

  • Just picked up a monitor arm (there were about 4 - 5 left) and a laptop desk (about 7+ left) all at Preston, Victoria ALDI.

  • bought 2 of these today, had a at least 5+ left at my local store

Intend to hook buy a Catleap/Yamakasi 27" eventually.

The stand is 100mm x 100mm mounting pattern, and is rated up to 15kg which would be suitable for monitors >24"

  • about 4 at Aldi in dandenong. i would be tempted if it was rated to 27"

  • Picked up the monitor mount, pretty solid but I was unable to get the two screws that screw into the clamp to actually screw in. The holes for the screws were a little too high. Ended up using some smaller screws which aren't so secure but I taped over them to keep them in place >_>

Thinking I need 2 more now.

EDIT: One of my monitors doesn't support versa mounts :'( time to buy new monitors? :D

    • I filed down one side of the clamp just the slightest and then the thing fit in snuggly.

Took maybe 2-3 minutes of solid filing with a very smooth one.

I originally got it stuck in there and had to pry it out against a wall.

      • Yeah I think I'll stick with the smaller screws and duct tape.
        Duct tape fixes everything :D

  • Do they come with the screws? I don't have … any lol.

Gonna walk from Granville to Camelia and back for one … hopefully.

    Edit: I'm too late.

    • It came with 6 or 8 more than I needed.

  • +1

Great day of Aldi deals. I got this mount, foot pump for $13 and the $40 steam mop. Just missed out on the bike helmets as only one left which was pink.

  • No stock at Burwood East Store.

  • Bought the laptop table. After almost completely assembling it and opening the bag for the wheels, found that 3 of the wheels were already damaged - not by myself. A bit dissappointed but i guess you get what you pay for. Gonna return it tomorrow hopefully can get another one. Noticed that the tilting table mechanism is not 100% tight. No matter how tight you twist the knob the table will still tilt if you put a certain amount of pressure on it.

    • Sorry to hear that.

What I noticed is 3 wheels are locking wheels; the other 2 aren't, and the instructions show them assembled in a certain order; initially I thought they were all the same and I just plopped them on (before doing them again as the instructions said).

My wheels required some "press down a bit and screw in" force to be screwed in properly to the base (before tigtening the completely-screwed-in wheels with the supplied mini-spanner).

The tilt on mine stays put fine for its intended use (not having people sit on it or anything), with no movement as long as the knob for tilt adjustment is tightened normally.

      A nice portable table.

  • These are fantastic for the price. Bought one, holds up my 23" great. I did have an issue with the two screws used after you slide the monitor in place but just used some spares I had lying around.

I have another one from eBay and it is not as sturdy as this, the arm tends to sag.

  • Looks good. What's the max height of the monitor mount?

    • +1

The base of the monitor will hang around 10-15cm above the table. Not much clearance.

  • Would it be feasible to get 6 and make your own one of these, http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/101155 ?

    • I just thought about it, you could definitely put more than 1 arm on each stand/pole so it can possibly function as a cheap dual monitor mount.

    • No! Trust me, that Samsung set-up has a whole lot more than a couple of joints. Even if you did manage to hack something together, the cable-routing and the controls would be tricky. I'd personally just bite the bullet and go with the x6.

  • Thanks opt, i've been after something like this since i step on Australia.

    • +5

what do you mean step on Australia?

      • finally some1 got it

Good items at Aldi today, but many gone by 10am so lots of disappointed people. The recording pen with USB was sold out at 8:30am opening. Went to many stores and all said the same thing - 8:30am sell out across all districts. Was told by an Aldi employee that you have to go through some sort of record check if you buy these online on ebay but not if you buy at Aldi. Unsure about the accuracy of this. I guess if they were that popular they will repeat them in a couple of months, like the tablets at Christmas.

    • I was disappointed at first; I was alarmed at how quick some things went.
Then I tried another store a bit further out with far more stock.

I managed to get both the TP-LINK powerline adapters and the laptop table. One thing I learned from this experience is you have to get in first thing in the morning (I naively thought there'd be plenty of stock of every item I wanted at my closest store).

For some items (like the TP-LINK powerline adapters), I had to ask staff to retrieve them from the storeroom (none on display).

  • Regarding the monitor arm, could anyone tell me dimension from the table to the top of the main pole? Not sure if it will get my monitors high enough. Currently my 24" monitors sit around 470mm from my desk to the center of the monitor.

    • About 30cm.
