      • well, it depends. Is she charging per minute or per hour, or what?

    • +3

I'd love a 23-foot monitor (let alone six of them) for that price. :)

      I think you mean 23" not 23': http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prime_(symbol)

      • Yes, you are right the US conventional symbol is "

    • -3

Wow really? The mounting is expensive, the bezels are ultra thin and these are high quality monitors. :) So yes, the price is more than fair.

  • Great price, wholesale price is over $2k. I wish I had your Samsung rep!

    • +1

      wholesale price is over $2k

Seriously? Most places have this for under $2k or just over $2k on staticICE: http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=md230x6&spos=3

Are retail margins that low? :)

      • +1

        IT margins are very low.

Also don't forget the free freight, which for a 50KG package could be quite substantial.

      • +2

Yup, normal wholesale price are sometimes higher than what is advertised on staticice. I won't go into details on why that is the case - better left unsaid.

In any case, even if we negotiated a volume deal, we would not get close to the $1395 the rep is selling it for. I have a new found respect for Computer Alliance.

      • Yes, margins on PC parts are fairly low, because they depreciate quickly, and having old stock because of a horrible margin is a huge cost to the business.

    • we got them for 2100 dollars at work, and that was considered a good deal, since we were quoted for 2380 dollars.

  • Hi guys,

I am very temped to buy this one.

can some one tell me Can you connect this up with PS3?

    • +8

Each of the 6 monitors have their own independant HDMI / DVI connections. It might look like one big monitor, but it isn't — there's 6 displays in there.

Unless you have 6 PS3s, you cannot utilize all 6 monitors at once. Buy a projector if you want big screen gaming…

      • +1

Not sure why scrimshaw was negged, but they are right. Basically you'll need 6 PS3s (GT5 only works with horizontally arranged displays, though: http://eu.gran-turismo.com/gb/support/d22037.html), or hook it up through some other video system ($$$).

  • -8

That's like $232.50 each monitor. Too expensive. Not worth it and probably not for me.

    • Dont forget these are IPS panels

      • +8

These are PVA panels, not IPS — still significantly better than TN, though. Also, Samsung don't manufacture IPS panels — their equivalent technology is PLS. :)

    • Wow, normally I would say "there's always one" but your the second person in this thread to compare the monitor price to each, excluding mounting hardware and the brand/quality of the monitors.

      • -7

For that price I would buy 6x LG 23" 3D monitor. For mount I can deal with that later on.

Last week I bought 23" LG 3D monitor (with glasses flicker free, Cinema 3D glasses) just for $149.00 picked Up.

      • Saying it's not worth it because it's $232 a monitor, that is where you failed.

        • -5

So what. I share my views. Not everyone is the same

    • -1

No it's a decent deal for 6x these panels, but whether or not we can make use of it, is another story.

      • hey - this is OzBargain - whether we can make use of the bargain is irrelevant !!

  • +11

I think I might get a set of 12 of these to make it 360 degree

  • This would be awesome to have at home but I blown my spending money for the next 12 months.

    • Weren't you the person who bought the Beolit 12 during Click Frenzy? :P

      • +1

I was going when I saw there was an extra 10% off. But was sold out. I ended up spending more on a used B&O system earlier in the week. If I bought the Beolit I would be in the dog house.

  • These meet my standards :p

  • +5

paint screen same color as bezel for seamlesss look

  • Decent price if you need 6 monitors for eyefinity. I've got a 3 monitor eyefinity setup and thats enough for me.

  • this would be a great setup for playing with CFDs…double thumps up!!!

maybe it's time to upgrade my pc also…

  • +7

imo, i'd rather have 5 monitors and set them up vertically to solve the bezel problem

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tvAxVMvry8&feature=player_d…

  • Why would you need so many screens? To play lan games or surveillance?

  • -1

Why not just get a bigger flat screen instead? No black lines cross over…

  • I use a laptop - is there a way to connect it to support these monitors?

  • +5

nah i would rather go 3 monitors and go zero bezel

having a border is so unprofessional

That link is so awesome it makes me want to run to Bunnings RIGHT.THE.PHUQ.NOW. - I've got 3 23" monitors that aren't even being used: now they're whispering to me, telling me they're absolutely gagging to be set up like that.

MASSIVE thanks for that link, imcold. You showed me yet again why the innerchoobs is such a magnificent thing.

      • anon pls go

  • It's amazing and shit, but make sure you not only have the correct equipment to plug in 6 DVI cables, and you have a powerful enough rig to power 3x2 1920x1080p.

  • Wonder how many people would still go for these monitor setups for gaming purposes once the Oculus Rift comes out (Dev kits are can be currently ordered for $300usd and expected to ship June 2013).

For anyone who doesn't know it's a VR helm with gyroscopes. Here's Skyrim modded to run on it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JGoBYCNH7k . Other people are modding flight sim games for it which would be awesome as well anything with a cockpit so you can easily look around your cockpit and see out the top of your cabin etc.

  • can an iMac run this setup?

  • how easy would it be to mount the monitors on a wall instead of a stand?

  • wow 105 votes, just wondering how many sales rep? 0 or 1 sales? :)

    • At least 1 :-)

  • +1

Okay, I stumped up my money.
The thing that swayed me is that Samsung actually make the cluster so the screens connect -
right now the monitors I have always end up with a gap between them anyway, it
should be better if they really are bolted together as one.
I did measure my workspace, beforehand.
I'll start looking into GPU's now (and maybe a larger PSU, sigh, it cascades down…)
Thanks for making such a great offer available to us all!

    • The only recent card i have been able to find is the FLEX series, You cant even SLI other cards and have more than 4 as all video output has to be off the 1 card.

I'm planning to get a FLEX 7950 to run crossfire with my existing 7950 (Going to run it in 1x5 mode using only middle 3 screens for gaming and side 2 for whatever), other option is to run 3-4 off Vid card and the rest off Mobo.

  • Idk what'd be called a decent monitor mount but pccg has a 6 monitor mount for $150, which'd leave $210 per monitor to buy seperately to match the price of this. Finding IPS 23" or 24" monitors under $210 wouldnt be hard either, the tricky part is finding ones with thin enough bezels, and dont know how available the daisy chained power cord setup mentioned with this Samsung deal is for diy setups

  • Rep: provide us with some inside information and let us know how many bought this deal. I'm very curious. From the comments, I'm assuming around 5 or so..?

I have the 3 monitor version of this MD230x3, had it for a couple of years and cost me about 2k at the time. It has been great I wouldn't buy the 6 monitor version for gaming only, unless you are happy playing with 3 monitors on the bottom in eyefinity and using the top 3 to display something else, obviously you can play with all 6 with the right video card but way too much bezel for my liking. The stand alone is a solid bit of kit and the remote and only one power cable make it really nice also. This is more suitable for people who do lots of multitasking, at this price I am considering getting one, when it first came out the MD230x6 was almost 4k from memory.

  • Cool now all I need is a $3000 computer…

  • Holy price-drop, Batman!

Wasn't this priced somewhere north of $2k on Saturday? (I ask because we saw it then, and ordered a 3-screen setup for The Lovely's chambers - $1017 delivered).

6 screens would be overkill for The Lovely: she just needs one for whatever brief she's working on, one for LexisNexis/BarnetJade/Westlaw, and one for intraday OzB [semi-kidding]… but I could maybe snaffle the other 3 and sticky-tape together a monitor mount for them: at that price I would be obliged to man up to confront, adapt, and overcome any configuration issues.

I reckon I'd best get The Lovely's permission to ring these folks and try to change the order.

  • Anyone purchased this and recieved it… whats it look like.. would you do any mods to it that would be possible to remove the bezzle and make it closer?

  • I got the e-mail saying "Due to one (or more) of the security checks failing on your credit card we are unfortunately unable to process payment via this method.

If you could please make payment by one of the below listed methods (Direct Deposit or BPAY) your order will be dispatch as soon as the funds have cleared, sorry for any inconvenience… "

    hmmmmm……any one has this problem?

    • Not yet, Mine is still in "Processing".

    • After spending a half a day on Monday speaking with my bank and Computer Alliance about this particular issue I was eventually able to have my credit card processed.

In my case the failure was not, as the email implies, an issue with a security check on my credit card but an issue with my personal details. It seems that while it isn't specified during the order process unless the staff at Computer Alliance can confirm your details in the phone book they will decline the transaction and require pre-payment.

It does seem slightly misleading to imply this is a credit card problem, which is what prompted me to contact my bank, when in reality it is an internal procedure that was failing that was unrelated to my credit card details. At no stage was my bank contacted so they had no say in declining the transaction due to any security checks.

So don't enter a PO Box into the address box, and work addresses won't work. Though once you do pass the security check these details are all fine.

  • Has anyone got this yet? I checked up on my order and it still says processing.

    • how did you pay? credit card or bpay/direct deposit.

      • bpay. is that a problem?
EDIT: to clarify, I haven't paid yet, it just says processing and I haven't actually paid yet because it still says processing and hasn't given me the code to pay with bpay. (it is possible i have missed it)

I have been lucky enough to receive mine Today. The box is big and heavy, and as I was warned to make sure I assemble it exactly where I want it to go, I have not properly put it together yet. I am still waiting for the rest of the kit required to drive it - that is still in transit. I ordered some other stuff from Computer Alliance, and that has not arrived yet - TNT delivered one package, but not the other.

I have taken some quick photos, but honestly the ones on the Samsung website are pretty good for getting a look at what the construction of the screens is like. The backs of the screens look a lot more industrial than your standard plastic monitor fascia - it is all folded metal. (I think the look from behind is good, others will not agree, whatever, I prefer function to form, metal to plastic)

    @frozenkuku
The bezels - there is a closely fitted folded metal surround making the bezel. It looks to be etched powder coated steel, perhaps 0.8mm or less. There would not be much to gain by removing it, I would think - the tiny thickness of the metal and not much else, and I dare say that it is holding the glass on.

One thing about those bezels that probably makes these screens look better as a set - the bezel is pretty much flat to the screen - it extends out from the face of the screen by just the thickness of the metal (perhaps 0.8mm, I haven't measured it) whereas with the other, single LCD screens I have the plastic bezel projects out from the plane of the screen by more like 6 or 7mm.

  • If only my misses lets me buy this… :-(

This 6 monitor unit went together quite easily - I'd have to say if you can put together flat pack furniture, then this will present no hassles at all. I was a little surprised that there was a good instruction manual for telling you how to put the 6 monitor set together - but samsung had not written anything at all about how to connect the six screens up. You can't really do it incorrectly, anyway, I guess. There are five AC in <—> AC out leads, and 5 USB in <—> USB out leads, you use these to daisy chain all the monitors, then you have the wired remote controller and IEC mains cord connect to the last (or first, depending how you look at it) monitor. Each monitor has its own video lead, all supplied.

The final setup looks really quite good, I think. I run the screens from a single HD7970-DC2T-3GD5 (Also Purchased from computer alliance, in my case). The system I used was substantially the same as http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/rmp_sg_whirlpoolpcs_gaming_conf… (see the Intel Gaming/Multi-Purpose Config Quiet). I went for the next model up power supply, RAM and HDD. However, I will be mainly using the computer for designing circuit boards, not gaming.

The only problem I had was that only five monitors operated, when "identified" from windows display properties they were numbers 1-5. There is a small switch on the GPU, accessible from the top. This switch selects between having a dual link DVI or having all of the Display ports being operational. Flicking the switch gave me all 6 screens working.

Just in case people are reading this thread late in the piece, there are plenty of motherboards available that support 3 (or even 4) PCIe slots (ie. for graphics cards), so that each graphics card can provide 2 v DVI ports. I trade on the sharemarket and have 7 monitors running from a single box with 4 cheap (ie. $55) graphics cards. It's easy and not expensive. You don't need to spend $400 to $700 on a graphics card to get this configuration (or better) to work.

  • Hi Guys,

Thanks for the overwhelming response to this Special deal we have been doing, I just wanted to inform you all that we only have 1 Unit left which we have been using as our Display. So if you have been thinking about buying one get in quick before it's gone.
