Cheapest gaming laptop with AMD 7970m, it's usually $1299..I think this has the AMD A10-4600m rather than the newest A10-5750m..Please note that it has AMD APU, which is significantly slower than i7 and i5 and would be a bottleneck when playing CPU intensive games.

  • Its a pity the AMD A10 holds back the 7970m. I think A10 is even slower than i3?
    Its a good price however.

  • I can't really see anything which would justify spending over $1000 in this laptop.

    • +1

while the a10 hold the 7970m back, it still ploughs anything within this price range for gpu intense game (the majority of games)..

      • Just wondering if any of the components are upgradeable post-purchase? I will be doing video editing etc and would prefer anything above 8GB for RAM - would be great if anyone knows if there are expandable memory slots for this lappie?

        • +1

CPU, and GPU are upgradable…as long as future chipsets still use the same socket…
          there are only 2 ram slots…so 16gb max…
There are 2 hdd bays that you can use…

  • You can upgrade the cpu in this machine. At that price this is a relative bargain (with the 7970), but I wish it were closer to $800. My guess is the coming Richlands' Cpu and 8000 series GPU's just around the corner are the reason for the price drop.

Been looking for a nice dual duty laptop (work and play) to claim on tax, and at this price I might take the plunge.

    Thanks for the post.

    • how would you go about upgrading the cpu? will the newer types of the AMD chips be compatible with the mobo?

      • You can upgrade to the above cpu mentioned by op. A10-5750m

Or even one of the new and upcoming Richland Mobile CPU's. You might have to do some digging to find one for sale though, but they will pop up eventually.

  • does this support Eyefinity/triple display?

  • Why on earth did they match up a 7970 with that cpu, such a waste. It is a nice gpu for the 1k mark tho.

    • to create a market segment at $1300 price point? a metabox with i5 and 7970m would still cost about $1600…and that's without OS..

      • I doubt the price between that cpu and an i5 is that much tho. Mismatching components to save a few dollars is never a good idea. Better they made it cheaper and put in something like a 670m

        • They do have 675mx + i7 combo in MSI GT60 and 660m + i7 combo in MSI GE60…no i5 though..

  • 7970m is close to nvidia 680m

My question is will the screen scale well if you run
    a game at 720p?

  • today cotd has big 17" full hd gaming laptop too, with intel i7 but not bluray and 3.92kgs.

I bought this laptop with 16GB RAM when It was $1299. Although it was not a bargain per se, my 6 year old Dell needed a refresh.

Although not keen on Win8, I can certainly vouch for it to be a great laptop for the casual gamer that doesn't want to get bogged down with a desktop.

Lol obvious then 7970m isn't the normal 7970, it's an heavily under clocked and compacted version making this gpu around as good as a 100-200 GPU therefore negating any point of buying such a bad computer.

All laptop GPUs are weaker than their desktop counterparts….

  • From the review at http://www.kitguru.net/laptops/zardon/msi-gx60-gaming-laptop…

HD7970M is a powerhouse mobile gaming solution.

    Cons:

    No solid state drive.
AMD switchable graphics often defaulted to the onboard 7660G.
A10 4600m can run out of steam with more demanding tasks.
    can get hot.
    battery life isn’t great.
