Is that because you love it so much?

      • -8

No, because of the loons to the north.

It's been like that for 60 years… North Korea are all talk.

This new guy running the country is a baby, at least the old guy was predictable.

This comment shows how little you know about the region

        • The old guy was really unpredictable - that's why everyone took him seriously. His young son however…. Everyone knows he's all talk

I know enough that the AUS govt. is not recommending people go there.

        • You should really stop talking out of your rear end.

DFAT advice for South Korea - Exercise normal safety precautions - same as USA and UK.

Er, right, that's why we urged the evacuation of 7000 Aussies living in South Korea a few weeks ago??

          http://www.news.com.au/national-news/evacuation-plans-for-70…

Seems like conflicting reports to me. The travel sites says all's fine and dandy - go over and visit, yet at the same time, they urge 7000 Aussies over there to leave?!

        • +2

Travel site? It is a website run by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade - hence the .gov.au in the URL and if you knew what that government department did you would know that what the website shows is the government's stance on the matter.

On the other hand, the article is not 'urging' 7000 people to leave - it is stating that the government is working on contingency plans on how to evacuate people. Did you even read the article you posted the link to?

So actual government recommendation on one hand, and a news article from a media outlet of dubious quality on the other… hmmm

Travel to South Korea but reconsider plans to visit North Korea, Australians are told

Article from the same outlet - this one is actually current

Hahaha, to be honest, you can't blame MrZ for falling for all the "danger" that western media is continuously going on about.

Political/societal/regional conflicts within South Korea is more dangerous than threats from North Korea in my honest opinion. Also, I wish people recognise North Korea as a country that is suffering from famine and terrible government that requires assistance from wealthier countries, rather than a country with a military threat.

    • Went there in February, I'm back.

      What now?

  • What airline might be handy to know.

Edit: good luck trying to find flights for that price. Can't find availability at for that price at all, cheapest I could find is $805 on China Eastern for the mentioned travel period and $774 for July onwards on China Eastern as well.

    • I found flights for $708 during that period.

      • Dates and airline?

        • +1

          11/06 - 26/06 Vietnam airlines $708
          06/06 - 19/06 Vietnam airlines $708
          12/06 - 25/06 China South airlines $744

They were the first 3 searches I have done, I'm sure there are plenty more.

        • Got it. For some reason Vietnam Airlines weren't coming up for me before.

  • Wow I am there,

any way anyone can comment on Vietnam airline? good bad? rate?

    • +1

Ive flown multiple times with Vietnam airlines, though only domestically within Vietnam.
I found them to be one of the best airlines I have ever flown. Nice fleet of planes, the most legroom of any airline I have flown with (in economy), great service in-flight and for the majority the pilots that have been on the aircrafts have actually been aussies (couple of brits i think in there too).

So personally I highly recommend vietnam airlines. Though I haven't flown internationally with them, I wouldn't hesitate to.

I fly them regularly for work. Very attentive crew, planes are ok. Food is good. I got bumped off a flight and put business class on the next so they look after you. Definitely a good airline (but don't expect luxury)

    • They're OK, but if you start a fight on board, you'll lose the argument and have to withdraw.

  • +1

Although this is a good price, it's not completely new either. Also, last time I checked Vietnam Airline's route to Korea, you have to change flights 2 times in Vietnam and there was a ridiculous waiting time as well.

If it was for me (cheap, poor uni student) I wouldn't mind taking this route, but if you are busy I'd recommend China Southern/Easter for around $100 more. (via Guangzhou or Shanghai respectively)

    • There are routing options SYD/MEL-SGN-ICN as well at SYD/MEL-SGN-HAN-ICN (SYD/MEL-SGN-HAN should be the same aircraft)

  • Found even cheaper ones on bestflights.com.au. $698 through Vietnam Airlines with one stop over.
