  • I have a PRS-T1 and it has this annoying problem where occasionally it will skip ahead multiple pages in one-swipe. They were supposed to fix it with an update but the problem persists.

Might be worth researching if it still happens on the T2, because if you are reading and it happens dozens of times for a 1,000 page book, it gets really annoying.

  • I got same problem with T1
but $99 is really attempting price for a well-made product
wondering if the pickup is allowed

presumably you can go in store and buy one

"Offer available only on purchases online at www.sony.com.au, in Sony Kiosks or Sony Centres nationwide."

I don't know much about e-readers, and I'd like to buy one.
Is Sony PRS2 better than Kindle Paperwhite? which one should I buy?

Edit- Can Sony PRS2 read my kindle books without changing formats?

    • I have the same question, can I read kindle books on this?

    • You can not read kindle books on this without changing their format(and removing the DRM if has any) this is a relatively simple process however if you have a lot of kindle books you may want to stick to their eco system.

      • Any details on how? Last time I looked it wasn't that simple, however if u can point me in the right direction that would be great

by the way good price for a nice ereader, but the real bargains arebto be had in the old no name, no WiFi brands imo. Ereaders are so simple and files so small that plugging in a USB once a month and downloading is not a downside, esp since everyone knows Calibre is a fantastic app and the best place for your books.

Well sounds like you already have calibre installed so you're halfway there download the tools from the apprentice Alf blog http://apprenticealf.wordpress.com/ Please make sure you heed the warning under the link specifically uncheck the box stating "Use our download manage" and click the small grey download button not the big advert one on the right of screen

Unzip the tools take note where, Open calibre and Go to Preferences, Plugins, File Type Plugins, Load Plugin from file navigate to where you saved the tools, Select the DeDRM_calibre_plugin folder and then the DeDRM_plugin file.

If you are just buying books through Amazon Kindle for PC then your done no further config is necessary, if you have a physical kindle then you may need to customize the plugin with your serial number, instructions are in the dialogue box in calibre.

Once done the DRM is automatically removed every time you add a new book to your library it will not remove the protection from books already existing in your library you'll need to re add them for that to happen.

        • Champion stuff, will try when I get home. My issue is with all the free kindle books on OB I can't read them on my generic ereader, this will do the trick

why do you guys neg valid questions?

    • +3

because their brains don't have enough capability to comprehend the question.

  • Isn't it better to just get a Tablet? I have stacks of Amazon Kindle books which won't natively on this?

    • +2

Personally I do not believe a tablet is suitable for long periods of reading due to it's back lighting if you intend to read for recreation for long periods you are better off getting a dedicated reader. It will have longer battery life and no back lighting weather it be a sony/kobo or paperwhite doesn't matter all are better suited to the task over a tablet

  • You can use Calibre to change the format of your ebooks. In fact, it can auto detect what format the book should be in when you upload it to a well known/brand device. I use Calibre to back up all my ebooks :)

    • as should everybody!

  • Thanks I might look for it at a kiosk. This is the sort of price I'm willing to pay. I like reading and I don't mind having more than one portable reader. My Kindle is unsuited for reading PDFs due not having touch and therefore no pinch zoom.

  • I got a friend to pick one up for me from the Brisbane store. It also came with a free case as well, but I'm not sure if it's a nationwide thing. Either way, for $99 it's a great deal.

  • I had a play with it at a kiosk and started having reservations. The most annoying thing was the multiple flashes when refreshing a page. Lesser concerns were the low 800x600 resolution and PDFs will only zoom so much

The very light weight and touch are nice. The case with light is extra. If they throw that in you have a bonus.

I might wait and see. I suspect it's being cleared to make way for the next generation. I encourage you to try it hands on to check that you like it.

  • In my opinion, ereaders are better for reading books than tablets, especially if you read a lot. In terms of battery life, even if you read extensively, you should get about 3 - 4 weeks worth of reading before you need to recharge. Where the ereaders will outperform tablets is in bright conditions, especially outdoors. You will comfortably read books on ereaders out in the park on a bright sunny day.

  • I know ozbargainers don't like Costco. However the black one is selling for $99 with a case. Just bought one myself at docklands, VIC.
