  • Sorry for noob question. I cant use this with SIM card yea? What modem can I buy to use with my Telstra SIM? Thanks.

    • i have one here. It takes a fullsize sim, although i'm not sure if it works with just any old sim

      • +1

it's locked to telstra so you need to run a program on it to unlock it.

Plenty of info you can find about it.

        • I got one from Coles last time and it was unlocked out of the box.

at least that's what DC-unlocker told me.

        • if you put in another sim it'll tell you a different story……

Dont't do it! Aliens will probe your ass if you do

      • Do they usually use lube?

  • Wanted to buy this a few weeks ago when Coles had it half price. Couldn't find one at any of them nearby and I couldn't get a price match at Dick Smith (only place with it in stock), so I bought a different SIM card on its own. Couple of days later and Dick Smith has it price matched on their website. By then I didn't need it though.

  • Why are data only plans much more expensive than phone + data? You can get unlimited phone calls & sms +mms + 5GB of data for $35 from Aldi. Am I missing something?

    • +1

      Am I missing something?

That's what happens when there is not enough competition… We only have 2 networks in Australia so they both screw us…

    • so get an aldi sim? tested this device with my kogan sim on the weekend and it worked fine

    • $30 telstra sim for $10 & $40 boost for $20 :)

Oh, silly me- this is what you young folk call a dongle- I get it. Or have I got that wrong too? I thought this was a 5GB plan, nothing else.

  • Until 30/06/2013 (Expires in 77 days)

This offer is only available online and through selected retail partners.

    which selected retail partners?

    dick smith is/was expiring today - http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/98880

    • DSE has it in the current catalogue for same price, bought one on the weekend

    • dick smith now back up to $79 so not a selected partner it seems…

  • +1

At this price if you want pre paid data best to buy these dongles and throw them away once used!

    • Well throw away the sim anyway. When I activated mine telstra kindly signed me up for their "Pre paid data + cap" offer. You're not given an option to opt out and the rates are horrendous (eg $40 for 1gb). Not an issue of course, just pop in a kogan/Aldi sim or get it unlocked and choose your preferred provider.

  • "Expires in 77 days"
    - so basically this is the new price for these until they run out?

  • Is this Telstra Elite modem better than unlocked Voda pocket wifi?

    • +1

Just depends on which network you want to connect to. According to mine, it's a rebadged mf60, the tech specs are here. You should check the voda one, then work out which network you want to be part of.

    • It's potentially faster.
      21Mbps vs 7mbps
(pocket WiFi 2 is the same max speed as the Telstra Elite)

      • Just so I'm clear, Telstra Elite is 21Mbps right?

Then, if a Voda Pocket Wifi Pro is unlocked, and I use a Telstra SIM, I should get the same speed, no?

        • Correct Telstra WiFi Elite is up to 21mbps.

Unlocked Pocket WiFi Pro should be equivalent.

  • I had one of these on Telstra. Used in both Pyrmont and Bondi. It was CRAP

  • So will the Telstra shops be selling these at that price?

  • silly question but was just wondering which is a better option: Telstra elite 5GB or the $30 telstra pack for the ipad 3GB data (on sale for $10). If my device could share the data to other devices at home via hotspot, what are the major differences between these two options? (such as speed..?)

    • +3

Major advantage of a separate WiFi modem that I've found is that you can plonk the modem in an area with good signal and then sit in an area with bad signal quite happily.
In the past, I've taped a ball of string to my modem and lobbed it over a tree branch to get service!

      • Now that is thinking outside the square… :)

      • Thanks :) I was tempted to buy this but ended up buying the $30 telstra pack for $10 and activated for the 3GB data.

    • Got a link to the 3Gb data pack?

  • Does this work with a kogan sim out of the box?

    • Going from the last few of my Telstra buys, none of the devices were ever locked.

  • I need the wifi device only.
Should I just get a cheapo android and tether? Eg the huawei nextg at coles?
    Any different speed wise?

  • I don't see much has changed over the past few years under pseudo competition. Might get 3-4Megabits per second over second rate network, for instance…VOdapuss. Or alternatively, 8Mbit (1 megabyte)as I go Telstra on my liquid mt (2011 phone).
Anything much more than 10Mbit is a bit of an exception, in my vision. I guess more the triumph of optimism over experience.
Yair, Android mobile can tether over Hotspot, or even Hotspot + USB Cable at the same time.

  • any delivery fee?

    can deliver to PO BOX?

  • Telstra, bring back the Family & Friends(Mobile Plan) deals and we are BFF 4EVA…LOL!!!

  • fyi available at woolworths and bigw
