I've done some extensive research the last few days re this tablet and it is reported to be FASTER than the GOOGLE NEXUS 7 with LOADS MORE FEATURES at a much better price. Built quality is reported to be solid. YouTube videos show this tablet running apps and 3D games really smoothly. Firmware is updated regularly. A lot of websites still advertise this with Android 4.04 but Merimobiles just updated theirs to include Android Jellybean 4.2. Shipping is free. For 7% off at Merimobiles use "JOY" code (valid till 14/4) or 5% "techheidiki" code (valid all April). Price of $167.40 is discounted price in Australian Dollars. I haven't found a better price with a reputable seller so I went with them. Only negative is battery only 3300 mAh max 5 hours but with $20 portable powerbank from Ebay easily solved. 1Year warrenty included.

    • One thing I would suggest that you ask them to send it by express mail (or whatever is fastest) at no extra cost as a gesture of goodwill. You will gain little by cancelling your order and going with a different supplier as your wait might end up just as long. At least they are a reputable seller who genuinely try to look after their customers.

Hyundai is still bringing out new firmware updates. They just released a much improved Jellybean version for the T7 so its only a matter of time before they have a stable version for the T7s you can flash.

      See http://www.slatedroid.com/forum/706-hyundai-t7-s/ for more info.
      The tablet itself is great.

Hey guys, just received mine today and I'll outline my experience. As it's for someone else I had to polish it up. I'll go through them here. It is on Android 4.0.4 and the customer rep said 4.2.2 or any other Jelly Bean version for that matter was too unstable and not ready for everyday use. That's fine as it's for someone who won't really notice the difference and the tablet I must say is very smooth already without Project Butter. I ran a few apps and there was no noticeable struggle or any lag. I will run the AnTuTu benchmark to make sure I've got the specs that they claim as I heard a few weird things?… e.g. Not getting the quad core Exynos CPU and getting 1GB RAM instead. I'm not sure but when I get around to it I'll reply to this post.

The main problem was that it had a lot of screen flickering and was quite disappointed when I first turned it on. I turned it off, flexed it a bit here and there and voila the screen was perfect. I did flex it very gently, thinking that something might have been lose and hopefully nothing is damaged haha. It booted up nicely and I used the ROM here http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/64722-rom-t7s-cleanrom/ to get rid of all the random bloatware and have it rooted in one go. The process is very simple and it works a treat.

I've read on the same forums as above that the charger is not recommended as some overheat and can cause damage. It came with an adapter for the AU socket i.e. The charger is the Chinese/US socket which has an adapter to make it usable with an AU socket. I also read that the adapter was the main problem which it definitely was for mine. It sparked quite a bit the first and second(was stupid of me) time I tried to plug it in. As I'm Korean and have random electrical appliances that require adapters, I have good adapters lying everywhere. I grabbed one, used it instead and the charger worked like magic. Charges quite quickly but the battery drains a bit faster than the Nexus 7 I have.

Overall, I'm very impressed with it. I keep reading up on the Slatedroid forums to check up on the official Jelly Bean versions which they are apparently working on. There is a beta 4.2.2 official ROM but I heard it has quite a few problems.

  • Still has not despatched yet…

I sent an email just now requesting an update, and expedited shipping. Furthermore, requesting a refund if they cannot provide the former.

    Sigh

  • Plz keep in mind you only have 40 days from date of purchase to lodge an appeal with Paypal. Hope you get yours soon!

  • I sent an email to Merimobiles asking whether my tablet had been shipped, and that I would just rather a refund after them taking money out my account then waiting over a month (and it turns out it's 4.0 which I didn't really want). This email was sent a week ago, and I still have no response. I realise some circumstances are out of their control, but the lack of response is not good enough once I voiced my concern. I did get the group update emails prior.

My tablet has since arrived. The charger is terrible and you're probably better off throwing it out, so be prepared to shell out more money for another charger. My HDMI connector looked like it had been used as it was scratched on the inside. The tablet outer casing looked new and they had included 2 screen protectors.

The actual performance is pretty good, although there is quite a bit of bloatware installed which you can't just uninstall without flashing the device.

Overall, while the tablet itself is okay, I'm pretty disappointed with the whole scenario - would have been better to buy a Nexus 7 or similar at a local store for $35 more. I would have at least received it then and not had to spend more on a charger.

    • Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. As far as the bloatware goes, if you root it with exynosabuse you can uninstall or freeze all the chinese bloatware with titanium backup. It's what I did without flashing my firmware and its real easy.

The charger isn't so much the problem as the AU adaptor that came with it. If you have a spare one around or buy an AU adaptor plug, it should work fine. At least it fixed my problem with it sparking.

Nexus 7 are nice indeed, but not without problems either. Two of my friends had one for only a month and one day it just wouldn't turn on. Googled it and it turns out to be a common problem…

  • Thanks mate, I will try a travel adapter tonight to see if it's any better.

  • Using a different aus adapter seems to have improved things, although I have only tested once last night.

  • Uncharted: I had sent an email to Merimobiles and didn't get an answer other than an automated reply to my email address. But when I logged into their website the next day there was a personal email in response to the one I had sent . Maybe there is an email reply for you if you log into their website too?

  • I received a message from them.

Now they are saying that the colour I wanted is not available…

    They offered me the white!

I wanted the blue. Not happy.

  • Hi Agrum, no messages. I have received responses from them in the past via email, but still checked the site anyway. I even sent a follow up email a week later and still no response.

Would hate to think what would happen had the tablet arrived DOA. It appears once your order is shipped you can forget the customer service.

From my experience I would not buy from them again, and certainly wouldn't recommend them.

    • Man, that is really disappointing. Seems like good customer service is rare to find nowadays. This is the first time I've bought from them, and while my experience was mostly positive, I can understand you're none to happy. If it were me I would write a review under "read what others have to say". It is posted immediately so it might force a reaction from them. Shame, because it's a really nice tablet.

  • Thanks mate, yeh can't win them all when it comes to online buying.

At the end of the day I at least have the tablet in my hands.

On yours, does the screen flicker every now and then, I notice it particularly in chrome or on the home screen?

  • Not that I have noticed. I use Chrome quite a bit, but no flickering.

  • Hey guys, not sure if you want to try it but I had quite a bit of flickering especially in the settings menu so I turned it off and gently flexed the tablet. Mind you I was quite gentle hoping it was just a loose cable or something not joined properly together. Voila my screen is now perfect. No flickering on any app or browser I can tell so far.

Probably won't want to try it if you're a bit worried it might break… =/
