  • edit: nvm… great price shipped!

decent charger and not too hard to bend the prongs on the AC adapter :D

  • Cheers op! Ordered!
Finally got a charger for my eneloops!! :D

  • +1

Great charger. Definitely worth it if you are using costlier batteries like eneloops.
Also good for devices that use odd numbers of batteries. My old charger needed to charge in pairs, this has 4 separate single channels.

  • +1

Would it be safe to use my lithium trusfires with this charger ? i know its a stupid question but i thought id ask anyway

    • +1

no, only NiCd and NiMH AA and AAA rechargeable batteries

    • +11

It not a stupid question. Charging the wrong type of batteries can be very dangerous. Always ask if you're not sure :)

      • Also, charging the right type of battery the wrong way can be equity as dangerous…

      • -2

Centurion19871 said it was a stupid question, I agreed. A "lithium trusfires" (3.7v Lithium-Ion Trustfire 18650) will have no safety issues with this charger as its way way to big to fit into the charger.

        • Why do you assume they're 18650 size? 14500's are basically AA and would fit perfectly.

  • Will I need a converter with this since its US plug?

    • Nvm, I fail at reading. "• World Voltage capable - Operates on 100~240V AC Input. "

    • +1

If you mean transformer then no: World Voltage capable - Operates on 100~240V AC Input.

You will need a converter or you can bend the pins on the power adapter. Here's a converter for $1 shipped

      • +6

The adapter on the link you provided does not have the insulated pins on the Active and Neutral to meet Australian Standards AS/NZS3112:2000 and AS/NZS3112:2004. These requirements were introduced in response to a number of incidents (including fatalities) involving both mains-plugs and plug-in-devices where a metal object (such as a knife blade, a metal blind slat or a sheet of metal) came into contact with a plug pin that was partially removed from a socket and resulted in an electrical shock.

        • Interesting… can I ask how you can tell from the ebay listing that it doesn't meet the standards? I assume insulated pins look different somehow?

        • black tips on the pins so you don't fry if you touch them when pulling it out the socket.

        • +3

          http://www.accesscomms.com.au/reference/insulated-pins.htm
You can see the difference between the insulated and non-insulated ones in the photos. However, even if you see the photo in the ebay listing it is best to ask the seller. The photo is not always a guarantee of what you will get. I once bought on ebay from a seller who said in the description it was a insulated adapter, however what I received was a non-insulated one and one that was a much poorer quality compared to the photo. I informed the seller about the misleading image and description and the seller immediately posted out another one via express post that looks exactly the same as the photo.

        • .

        • thanks haz

  • Bought one earlier at about the same price to use with my collection if eneloop, arrived quickly and is very happy with it.

  • Tempting. Reading the lead review at Amazon I found the following 2 points particularly interesting:

[Q12] What is the REAL advantage of having an advanced charger like the BC-700?
[A] It allows you to determine the true capacity of all your batteries, and to revive those under-performing cells. Then you can group cells with similar capacities together for best result.

[Q20] How does the AccuPower IQ-328 Battery Charger compare to the BC-700/1000?
[A] Except for some very minor differences, the IQ-328 is identical to the BC1000, down to the same bugs. See details here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1W62S0X09QMMQ/

The second point is interesting as the Accupower is equivalent to the La Crosse BC-1000 but US$20 cheaper, or only US$7 more than the BC-700!

    • Thats interesting giggles, only thing is this: I notice it is not sold by Amazon themselves - I dont think it ships to Australia?

A slight issue you might encounter.

Don't rely on this charger as your ONLY charger, since heavily depleted batteries will show up as "Null" on the device, necessitating some 'dumb' charger to put some charge in them before the battery can be properly detected and the charger allowing charging to proceed.

    Otherwise, it's a good choice.

It's just not the charger I'd buy for your mum or your grandma and expect no technical support calls for, for example.

Again today when charging some AA, I noticed 2 eneloops coming up as Null; so the 'dumb' charger is put to service again.

Disappointing to have to rely on 2 chargers but otherwise the charger is good.

    • +1

I had this issue just last night charging eneloops - "Null" on one battery.

I just left the battery in overnight and it was fully charged by the next morning.

    • +1

This is not entirely true. The manual covers what to do in this instance - you use a paperclip to jump-start the dead battery from one with a charge. I don't want to list the steps here, but it is definitely covered in the manual. Hope this helps you and others who have needed to use the other charger. :)

        Manual http://www.lacrossetechnology.com/bc700/manual.pdf

        Quote from the manual, word-for-word:

        My battery reads “Null”.
This charger requires at least .9v in the battery in order to charge it. If the battery is depleted
below that point, you will not be able to charge it on this battery charger.
You may want to invest in a small charger/holder that will bring the battery back above .9v when
attached for 20-30 seconds. The battery can then be charged in our charger.

        What I wrote was accurate.
The method you use to give your battery that charge is up to you.

I just don't reckon it's very professional to have to do this when you've paid more than it costs to get a normal charger in your hands and you simply expect more. That's my main reservation with the charger. Well, that and the fact that I would like to choose 300mAh, 350mAh and 400mAh charge rates instead of the in-built pre-set 200mAh, 500mAh & 700mAh charge rates, which I tend to think run too low and then too high for my likings. They should have more in-between charge rates.

      • +2

you use a paperclip to jump-start the dead battery from one with a charge

no offence, but have to use a paper clip to charge a battery is idiotic. that's what a battery charger is for!

You may want to invest in a small charger/holder that will bring the battery back above .9v when
        attached for 20-30 seconds

it's ridiculous that you require a second charger

        design flaw in the charger

        • You could always wait for James Dyson to design a new type of battery charger, and then pay $400 for it

  • This charger is a must have :) but you gotta know how to use it as well.

  • It was good when it last! mine is just over 13 months and the 1st 2 banks now are not charging. They show 000ma after a few seconds after start regardless of setting.

live chat with Amazon CS, they may send you a replacement

      • +2

Took your advise and look up my order before i chat with amazon. The item actually arrive / delivery to me less than 12 months ago. The customer service was very nice however he only can offer me 25% refund because:

        Chat log:

Me:Alex, it should be under warranty as you look at the order date. It take sometime to arrive here in australia I dont really want a refund. I like the charger and would like it fix or replace please

Alex:I'm very sorry, but we don't handle warranties on products we sell. You would need to contact La Crosse for help with warranty coverage. You can Click here for their contact page.

        …….

Me:just one thing to clarify, so if i buy stuff from amazon, you will not look after warranty claim?
Alex:That's correct. Warranty claims are dealt with by the manufacturer.

Just let you guys know, buyer beware!

        • Just let you guys know, buyer beware!

I saw the pictures of batteries exploding on Amazon Website
Don't Generalise though, you don't know how their owners treated their chargers and batteries. It could happen to any charger thats mistreated

If you want a charger that does everything, including lith ions, I use the Nitecore i4, as reviewed here:
    http://budgetlightforum.com/node/9508

    And purchased here:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Nitecore-i4-Intellicharge-Univers…

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this…but I thought it'd be relevant, and a MUCH better charger than this one.

    • Wow a charger for LI-ion and NiMH. Going to grab one since I charge 18650's, 18350's and eneloops on a regular basis.

Good find, just bought myself one.

      • There is only 1 charger out there at rivals the Nitecore i4, and the only difference is that it charges slightly faster.

The Soshine SC-S1 V3, as reviewed here:
        http://budgetlightforum.com/node/19827

        Both are truly excellent chargers.

        • The Soshine doesn't do NiCD/NiMh, therefore it's VERY different to the Nitecore

  • Gday, first time poster…how are you lot getting this shipped from Amazon to Australia? I've input 2 separate Sydney addresses and no go. Are you using a drop shipper?

    • make sure you choose amazon, not other re-sellers.
There are many re-seller in the same site selling the same product, only the one sold by amazon will ship to your local(Australia) address.
if you don't know which one you are adding, the best way to do it is to look at the right hand side of the website, you will see a column saying "More buying choice", at the bottom of the column you will see something like "18 used & new from $28.77", you click that link and it will redirect you to are list of sellers, find the one with the label of Amazon, click add to cart, now you have it.

      • Excellent, that worked. Thanks for the tip mate.

  • +1

There is one eBay seller who sells the same La Crosse unit with an Australia plug transformer with insulated live pins ([email protected]). This removes the problems associated with adapters (which sometimes fall off the wall)or provide loose connections.

  • +1

AUD$39.99 for me? Maybe my credit card conversion?

    • +1

Same here. CC conversion is what I was thinking as well…

  • I have the BC-9009 and use with 2 packs of 8x glitter eneloops (thanks OzBargain & DSE). I might have to try the Nitecore i4 as BC9009 charges some cells forever (at least on the display), and cell voltage after charging is all over the place. Could be the cells, but the second glitter pack has only just been opened. Disappointed in charger or cells, just not sure which :-\

  • tempting

  • Can anyone please tell me the REAL DIFFERENCE between BC-700 and BC-1000, apart from you're getting some extra batteries if you buy BC-1000?

    • +6

      the REAL difference is:

BC-700 is over 299 numbers lower than the BC-1000. The BC-1000 can be considered the superior as it has more numbers and hence is the overall more powerful overlord of the BC battery charger family. Despite the common misconception that BC stands for Battery Charger, it actually refers to Bravado Capacity. At 1000 BC's, the BC-1000 commands a significantly larger bucket of bravado than the mere 700 Bravado Capacity points of the BC-700. Once the weakling batteries enter the kingdom of the BC-1000, they cannot resist the awesome resonating electrofantastic power of Bravado and therefore are supercharged accordingly. This of course cannot compare to the BC-1000's magnificent power in any regard, but will transfer any miniscule pathetically stagnant battery into a minor, yet still awe inspiring, shadow of the BC-1000 magnolord.

      hope this helps

  • For some reason I'm still slapped with the $10.65 shipping fee right before ordering in AUD. I thought it was free shipping? Is the option for free shipping before or after ordering in AUD?

    • Pay in USD.

It is free shipping within the USA only.

  • +1

The same charger for €27.90 delivered (about A$35).
This one is with EU plug, but can be paid with paypal.

  • for me the final rate is showing at 42.5 using my NAB Visa card…same thing happened for me for a deal I tried at zaavi.com where the rate showed up higher than what was posted on the deal by a few dollars. Surely conversion rates can't be that different

  • Ok, this has got me really confused. Has the price gone up? Im getting $42.81AUD or $43.52US shipped to Aus.

  • Mine came in the mail today! Did not expect it to come this quickly!!
6 working days from the US for standard postage?! Crazy!
