TODAY ONLY: 18c/L off Fuel at Shell/Coles Express with This Voucher

5523

Just got given this by my neighbour. Definitely works in Adelaide but is meant to be Australia wide. Print it out, cut off one of the strips and get your attendant at shell to scan it for 18c a litre off your fuel purchase.
TODAY ONLY!

EDIT: Confirmed working: NATIONALLY :)

EDIT: This has got to have cost someone their job. We have cost Coles thousands of dollars already :)

ENDED: I can't believe how MASSIVE this turned out to be, first time i've ever experienced a "viral" incident and the only time i've ever started one :D

Thanks everyone for the kudos etc. I should be able to walk into any pub in Australia now and say "I am Todes Angst and I need a beer!" and get one :)

LOL - Wants to complain because 'DODGY' voucher wasn't accepted. Man there's some entitled people out there.

PS: I'm kicking myself for filling up in the morning before reading OZB.

  • Great share. I used this offer 10 minutes till 12AM and it worked. THanks

Guys, just wondering how come this post gets so many votes.. Yes, the voucher gave us 18 cents per litre discount which is great but the voucher was only "found" on the last day of its expiry date and the day it expired was the day the petrol price was stil around 147c/litre.. Thus the petrol price was only down to a level of 130c-ish. I normally fill up my tank below 130c/litre anyways (after the usual 8c off). And I don't think Coles lost very much since it's usual lowest petrol price is around 135c/litre? This is a legit question asking for explanation :)

I used it for diesel, and diesel price doesn't cycle.

I got a bargain, and so did everyone else in WA that used this. Coles Express petrol prices after the 18c discount were 119.9 everywhere in Perth, except one location that was 114.1. It is extremely rare to get petrol that cheap, and especially not possible without an 8c voucher which requires a purchase at Coles.

People can argue about it being dodgy, but the voucher didn't state that an original was required, or that it was non-transferable. Maybe the in-store T&Cs say otherwise, but the voucher refers to 'fuel T&Cs' which to me sounds like T&Cs surrounding the purchase of their fuel, not the use of a voucher.

At the end of the day, Coles stuffed up. They need to revisit the wording on these vouchers, and of course implement unique barcodes ASAP. They should also have a plan about how to handle this type of situation. For example, they could have had attendants print and places notices on each pump advising that the voucher would not be honoured so motorists knew before they filled up. However, that would still cause problems for those that 'legitimately' obtained the vouchers, so I think their only choice here was to take it on the chin and learn from their mistakes.

      • fuelwatch helps too…no need to worry about servos changing their prices several times a day :)

        • i find shell/coels doesnt show up on fuelwatch - which is where i fill up :(

        • I searched Pearsall and surrounding suburbs, and the one in Pearsall didn't show up. I found it by doing an advanced search for all Coles Express locations NOR.

I should correct my above post; turns out it wasn't all locations in Perth, I only searched north of the river, so I can't speak for elsewhere.

        • hmm wasn't aware of that but then again i always use advanced search anyway.

i find that it's either 1 or 2 of them that will do the cheapest price and the rest will be stupidly expensive at the same price lol.

    • After the voucher it was about 130c/L here. I've never seen it that cheap in a long, long, long time.

    • I was happy as I filled up for 150.4 for V-Power (my Evo 9 only takes 98) so 132.4c/L after 18c discount - so basically the same price as normal unleaded.

      • Yep, same.

      • Tune your car to 95 or 91? Take a small hit in power but save money.

Now that will be a true ozbargainer! :P

        • +1

That's crazy talk! In a car such as an evo you need to run pretty high boost to make decent power so by tuning for 95 you'd have to go from ~24psi to around ~16psi as well as pulling a heap of timing so you'd be going backwards in terms km's per dollar,If you had to tune for 91 you may as well drive a bog stock lancer.

        • +1

it's not necessarily about power either. a true ozbargainer knows when not to sacrifice quality just to save a few bucks.
because that few bucks you save will end up costing you later when the poorer quality fuels causes problems in your car. (and this is not just specific to performance cars.)

I was down to 1/4 tank so even though the discount came on a day when the fuel prices weren't at their lowest, it still provided me with a $9 saving.

The cycle of cheap petrol used to come around every week (in Vic) and nowadays it's been longer, maybe 2 or so weeks. I definitely can't make it that long without having to fill up again so 18c/L is still worthy of this many votes imo.

      • +1

You exactly said what I wanted to say. I wish I could give you more than 1 + vote.

The PDF was made a week ago. Imagine if it was released then and had a week to run - it would have been stoped.
As it was released with only hours of validity left, it allowed maximum users (exclusively OzB'ers) to fill up on the way home or after dinner.
      Kudos to OP.

Petrol is something that is almost inelastic. The more inelastic a "deal" is, the more likely it is to be highly voted. And.. not forgetting that this sorta deal will appeal to a large variety of people. It's not like selling a guitar amplifier which has RRP of $200 for $40. So although the saving here is probably no more than $10 for most people, it's just simply that almost everyone can use it, and we know that with this bargain we are not "spending money to save money"…
… which is what we all hate Ozbargain for too.

  • amzing deal.. redeemed it at coles in melb yesterday..

  • The cashier at the counter said "its a fake voucher mate, you may land in trouble if I scan it" and I said "don't worry, just scan it"… Hehe… So just waiting for the trouble ;)

The only way for them to track these transactions is the Flybuys card used with it ??? I probably shouldn't have scanned Flybuys and rather have paid in cash :)

Beware! As we speak I'm sure they are spending their time reviewing security footage and matching up car registration plates with voucher use, getting court warrants to access the owners of those cars, and issuing fines in the mail.

      • lol
I wonder if anyone believes you. Coles now has authority to issue fines for fraud???? Police cant even do that. If you fill up your car and bolt they cant even fine you!!

        • lol yeah, you'd think they'd pay their staff across the country just to sit through hours of footage to see who used the coupon?

    • @ batrarobin: Yip, probably. On record for life.
@ puffinfresh: Never thought of the cameras. Doh!

"Thanks everyone for the kudos etc. I should be able to walk into any pub in Australia now and say "I am Todes Angst and I need a beer!" and get one :)"

Haha, and perhaps the person behind the bar will give you 18c off per litre ;)

  • filled up mine yesterday

    Thanks

  • Late comment but… Thanks OP, saved me $10 as the needle was at E.
Filled at Malaga WA at 7pm yesterday, the lady behind the counter read the coupon and just scanned it with no questions asked.
Gave a couple to colleague and the guy filling up behind me. fantastic share

  • Well I haven't read any newspaper articles or seen any news stories about this…

    • +1

Did you expect to? Not really newsworthy is it?

      • I would have thought there would be something about it. Perth news shows have an article on petrol prices every single Tuesday/Wednesday warning people to buy before the price goes up on Thursday. I think James Hird took the spotlight this week though.

      • +1

not many news articles are "newsworthy" to begin with

    • No celebrities or sportspeople were involved and the TV channels couldn't link it to advertise a show they were running hence not newsworthy ;-)

      • True if Gerry Harvey was involved no doubt it would be news worthy!

Gd work Op. Had to have a laugh when I used this at an independent Shell - they didnt have 18c discount button, so I ended up with 20c discount - extra $14 in my pocket, better buy some shopping at COles now!

  • +1

18 cents a litre discount is really nothing for the giant Coles group.

    • Just assume:
-20,000 clicks (Some may be re clicked)
-40,000 cars were used (Some people had two cars/shared etc)
-Assume average refill is 30 L

So I assume around $300k loss of profit margin

      Thats alot in anyone's eye.

      • I know I've probably been back here thirty times to see comments so 20000 may be a little exaggerated

        • +1

But then again, you have to factor in word of mouth and just randomly giving people extra vouchers at the servo so it all evens out I reckon

        • Clicks are for the pdf not the deal :)

Damn that video's disappeared from everywhere… I guess "thelastnoob" must of come down from the drugs and panicked deleting everything that the mods didn't already unpublish lol. Seriously disturbed fellow.
Happy I got in before the expiry on that one and saved a few bob, thanks Adrian
