      Just use Calibre.

In fact, even if you're not using epub files, use calibre. Much better than Amazon's kindle interface. MUCH.

Hows the format retention? I use Calibre for my current Ereader but was worried about conversion issues (going from one format to another and loosing its formatting etc)

Have you used it at all?

        • +2

I use it for my entire library.

Absolutely no conversion issues when converting to a .mobi file type. Only time I've experienced some issues is html to .mobi or pdf to .mobi, and even then its mostly on symbols or special characters/punctuation.

          Thanks for the details :D

  • "Please note this is a "special offers version"
The “special offers version” will show the special offers and sponsored screensavers directly on your Kindle Paperwhite. It displays on Kindle Paperwhite's screensaver and on the bottom of the home screen without interrupting your reading."

You get ads with this one….

If you look here, it's also Hong Kong stock:

You can get the ad free Paperwhite Wifi straight from Amazon for US$151 delivered (AUD$145). Takes about a week to arrive. No middlemen to worry about, no freight forwarding, no issues.

    Not a bargain IMO.

    edit: added link.

This seems to be from DWI as per the Seller info
    Seller info
    dwi-digital-cameras (10863) 99.5% Positive Feedback

Alot of feedback on Ozbargain states that DWI isnt that great to deal with?

got it via ems in less than a week for $97 delivered using tenso.com shipping discount for id verification.

    • wow that is so much cheaper?
i always said i would get one if it was <$100

is there any drawbacks i should know about for this japanese version?

Am I the only one who doesn't give a rats about these paperwhites?

    • Am I the only one who read it as "paperweight"?

depends on your preference. most people go for tablet computers for readimg these days.

i love kindles cos they are easy on my eyes, battery charge lasts a long time, theres no distractions like games, social apps and stuff so i am more likely to finish a book on my kindle.

    • I agree with you, but after so many years and models for the non-paperwhite (not to mention all the other brands about), there's bugger all reason to upgrade.

I got two when my old kindle keyboard broke think I paid $150ish from Amazon and $146from dse (pre order) so not that special if you look around as pointed out direct from Amazon is still only around $156.

Solid product and I wouldn't be too concerned with some users issues re the lighting so long as you realise this is an eReader and not a tab

  • Kobo Glo is $138 at ht if anyone's interested in the alternative to the paperwhite.
