    Why am I having trouble opening these amnz.to links? Chrome says it can't connect to the site. But it used to work a few days ago.

      It's working for me. I've got friends who've had issues with URL shorteners and it turned out to be a DNS issue. I recommend running Namebench to find a better DNS server; even if DNS is not the cause, it's a great way to speed up name resolution (I've found a 100x increase in speed after changing to the recommended DNS servers).

        Thanks for the tip. I've always just used ISP DNS. Didn't think a speed increase would be that large. Definitely something I'll look into.

          No worries, mate. Yeah default ISP DNS servers are usually a culprit with URL shorteners (see here, for example).

          The concept looks borked anyway. amzn.to resolves to 69.58.188.49 but a traceroute shows it's unreachable from here.

    Cant use the short urls either.
    Tested DNS and the default IInet/Westnet ones are the fastest for me by far, so changing is not really an option :(

      Damn. Well I recommend you lodge a support ticket with your ISP; maybe their tech team can get it fixed.

      That's my issue also - Westnet here.

      My question is - do we really need URL shorteners? Isn't is easier for the submitter to just cut and paste in the first place? Why do we have to use them?

          If this turns out to be the case it will be -1 for the original poster. We do not want any malware/tracking/spam or whatever on OzBargain.

          Get enough of that with daily internet life.

          Well on closer investigation amzn.to is Amazon's own URL shortener so the OP is innocent.

          Odd that the IP address of the load balancer has no reverse mapping and also that it suffers from routing problems. You'd think a big player like Amazon would get that right.
