A Song of Ice and Fire 7 Volumes (Game of Thrones Collection) $39.95 Delivered

520

I've been looking at buying this box set for a while now. Did a booko search and $39.95 with free shipping from Doubleday is the cheapest by about $15. For comparison I did a search on ozbargain for past prices and the cheapest it seems to have ever been was $34 pick up from Costco Melbourne before Christmas.

Just to clarify, '7 Volumes' does not mean all 7 planned books, a couple of them were split into smaller volumes. The Winds of Winter will probably be delayed for several more years and hell will freeze over before A Dream of Spring is completed.

    • I'm beginning to believe that these books will never be finished. I had hoped that the TV shows success would pressure the old guy into finishing at least one more book.

I think its a bit late for RJ to help out, lol

      • What's Goergre RR doing with his time? It seems as though he lost interest in the franchise after writing the 4th novel.

He's still working at it, albeit very slowly. There are a couple of sample chapters on his 'notablog.' I suspect the whirlwind success of the HBO series has distracted him with press tours, SDCC panels and countless interviews. Also, every studio on the planet is trying to purchase the rights to his other IPs like Wild Cards, so I'm sure he's busy with that too.

Have you seen the guy? After the success of the TV series, he's probably getting laid.

        • He's probably too busy spending his royalties from the show and the books? He's no spring chicken. I wouldn't bother to finish either.

      • Na, he will finish it. Will take him some time, but he will do it. Don't think hes gunna drop dead anytime soon

It's been less than 2 years since the last one was published. The average is 3 years between books, with the shortest being 1 year and the longest 6 years. given that the 6 and 5 year gaps were because he rewrote each part twice, i think he's doing OK.

Look at the publishing dates, he's getting slower. At this rate, it'll be a decade between Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring (as ironic as it is). The Gurm is old, diabetic, writes slower with age and is distracted by HBO press tours. I don't think he'd make it, but no-one would be happier to be proven wrong.

      • Unfortunately i have to agree with Strand, 3 of them are amazing books to rival the likes of Lord of the rings (the first 3) 4 n 5 were meh with 4 being bordering on natural sleep medication material.
I don't think he knows how to finish them and his been known to admit that he bit off more than he could chew when he chose to make 7 volumes he has said he should have only aimed for 5. I don't want to say don't buy the books because they are actually great but if you want to know what happens maybe best to wait till all 7 are actually out and then buy them as a 7 volume package :) … it just gets painful waiting 5-6 years to find out what happens next… lol

        • Especially considering how 5 ended.

        • nodding….

    • What do you mean by that?
Is this collection all the books that have been released so far?

As a heads up, Costco Docklands has this back in stock for $34.95.

    • Same with Auburn Store, plenty of stock today

    • Thanks Martini :)

  • Does anyone know if HBO is going to "just finish" the series for him? I respect the man as much as anyone else but if HBO try and tell me sorry you'll have to wait until the releases the book I EXPECT them to just get someone else to write it.

    • Believe he had words with the producer how he wanted the storyline to go in case his health problems overcame him.

Not sure if that included the book(s) he has yet to write, or just changes he wants made of the current series though…

      • yep .. which means he doenst think he'll finish the book series … :(

  • Oh damn I just bought the series for 50 at book depository!

  • EDIT: Sorry Costco is selling it for $35

  • Great deal! Checked Bookoo a few weeks back and Doubleday was the cheapest at $55, which I ended up buying, so this price is ridiculously good!
