UniqueMobiles Sells UNSEALED Samsung Phones

I received my phone today, which was not sealed. The phone has already been used, so no original setting options.

As I tested this phone according to some instructions, pretty sure that it is a hacked contract phone. Someone has flashed the firmware, which will leads to problems in updates and maybe some compatible issues with 4G networks.

There is possibility that it might be a refurbished phone because this phone has locked many inquiry functions in terms of the factory information.

I have contacted them for a return, will follow up and see how their service is.

I'm pretty sure this is a common practice for grey imports. They probably had to open it up to unlock it overseas to ensure it was unlocked before it was shipped to you. You should of being well aware before purchasing.

last time, I got a perfectly sealed one and can test all factory info.

I really don't think it is that case. I am experienced in buying grey imports.

      • Its dependant on where they happen to source there current stock. They don't always get the same things from same suppliers. Not saying it definately happened to you, but it could explain the broken seal.

EDIT: Since you don't believe me, I found what the rep quote: "uniquemobiles on 21/03/2013 - 15:47

        Afternoon,

It has come to our attention that some customers are concerned by the broken seals on some items. We can confirm that all items are Brand New, however some packages may be opened by the suppliers in order to Network Unlock the phones for use with any sim card, For QC or for sometimes including adapters. The devices have not been used in any other way."

        from http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/96611

        • it is common sense that they break the seal only when they have to. Otherwise, everyone knows a sealed phone is much better than an opened one. I doubt that they have done more than just unlock network or QC to my phone.

Why they lock a number of factory test functions?

        • Because maybe they didn't but there suppliers did… I don't get the point. Just ask for a refund as they are happy to offer it. I'm just saying that broken seals didn't just happen to you.

        • Yes, I am going to do so. I cannot use such a phone.

  • Make a complaint to ACCC.

We can confirm that all items are Brand New
however some packages may be opened by the suppliers in order to Network Unlock the phones for use with any sim card

I don't think he gets it:
All items are brand new except some that are not is what he said.

If you suffered loss or damages you can claim a remedy (eg. lost photos) from the supplier.

I am waiting for their reply and make decision. Thanks for the advice.

      • what was the reply — do share!!!

  • i need a reply too as i just purchased a galaxy s3 last week and havent received it yet. i need it before the 15th as im goin overseas.

  • For those who are waiting for the reply:

Regarding the unsealed phone I received, the UM advised their opened box return, which means, I need to pay the postage, and their previous shipping cost, as well as 25% of the price as whatever fees.

    Shame on them!

will never buy anything from that company!

  • I had the same issue with Techoni selling me a Galaxy S3 that was unsealed and shipped from china that turned out to be a crappy korean variant of the phone not to mention the phone was set to chinese language and when set to english half the phone was stuck in korean still.
Attempted to return and got the same bullshit about fee,s on the refund

    • And they took over a month to deliver the phone!

      • let's complain to ACCC together.

        • Accc refered me to consumer affairs… im sure these guys will do nothing.

  • Grow up people and get a life. This is common practice to unlock as stated 6 million times. Unless the phone is DAMAGED then just use it and stop whinging. OR just pay more and grab Aus unlocked stock from somewhere else. Way too much drama. You must not have any real problems.
    PS: Neg Away!!

Couldn't agree with you more there gimme. However they definitely should state that the stock to be grey import and unsealed due to whatever reasons they might have eg: unlocking, different firmware. But then again what store could really be bothered adding that much detail ;)

  • I just want to add to the concerns voiced here. I recently bought a phone from UM and was particularly vigilant against the possibility of an unsealed phone - so I was suspicious when I noticed there what seemed to be faint seal under the 'unopened' seal. Upon peeling back the seal, I noticed the "real" seal underneath was actually opened already. To verify my suspicions, the battery cover wasn't properly snapped onto the phone, and the packaging of the battery was scuffed and clearly previously opened before.

Whilst I'm reasonably happy the phone is 'new', since the IMEI sticker on the box match the IMEI on the phone, and the screen protector was untampered with, it worries me what great lengths UM goes to to conceal the fact they have opened the phone, and why it is necessary.

I don't plan to return it, but just as information to prospective buyers who would find this unacceptable - don't buy from them.

The point is, they did not state in advance that it is an unsealed phone. It is lie, nothing about grey import, cheap price, etc.

  • -4

more and more people here complained about the unsealed phones sold by UM. It is not a trustworthy seller any more!

stop whinging. as stated on other posts, is mainly due to customs and postal services checks.

Allow customers to make there own judgement of a Company. By posting false accusations and misinforming bargain hunters across this forum on on deals you are only encouraging legitimate sellers to not post bargains for all customers to enjoy which brings healthy competition to the market.'

You have made your case quite clear which is totally fine though let other customers make up there own mind. You received a brand new phone with no seal and by receiving this you built false stories in your head around how, what and why to make you feel like you have been mislead.

As you know which you have not shared with the community you were offered to return the phone for a FULL REFUND if you were not satisfied.Sealed/Unsealed Devices is the nature of import if you have no confidence in a seller and this is not something you can accept I suggest buying locally.

I think that you need to move on from this as you have voiced your opinion many times and all you are doing now is bringing down the OZB community and not encouraging bargains to be posted.

    Thankyou

I have never seen a seller as shameless as you are!

      1. you mislead consumers by not mentioning unsealed phones
      2. It is Samsung promise, clearly printed on the seal, do not accept if the seal is broken. As such, you are selling faulty products.
      3. your customer service is terrible and the so-called "opened box“ return for those who received unsealed phones is unreasonable.
      4. your explanation of the reason is not acceptable. Many suspect that.

Most importantly, you employed people to neg my posts, which is really damaging the community.

      Shame on You!

Besides, the Full Refund is based on my paying the postage and a fee!

        Be honest!

        • +6

you agreed upon that when you bought the product, clearly written in the terms and conditions.

        • -2

I didn't. They added the stupid statement after people complained.

Import Direct products are not illegal, inferior, factory seconds or demo stock. In fact, in almost every instance they are identical in form and function to their Australian stock counterpart. But please be aware that as stock is sourced from around the globe, it is not uncommon for packaging seals to be broken or removed. There are various reasons why this may be done such as; to inspect package contents, insert warranty cards or compatible chargers, network unlock devices, or update language settings. Be assured that devices are still Brand New and have not been used in any other way.

They had this up before you bought your phone. Just admit it that you didn't read it.
Full refund almost always excludes postage fees.

Seriously dude get a life. Big deal. OCD can be detrimental to your health. Chill out and enjoy.
It's just a phone and it's new. Get over it. Focus on something more important.

If you are a consumer, I could say nothing more to you. Be happy using second hand phones!

  • so what is uniquemobiles argument regarding the unsealed phones?
