I'm still upset at Acer no longer providing android updates to their A500 and 4.0 was the last update…

There are non official 4.2 ROM's but void warranty…

  I reckon acer don't really support their android devices, not like HTC and Samsung anyway (probably cause they are focusing on ultrabooks now).
  I normally start flashing roms after a few months from the day of purchase.
