  • Looks like a very decent electric razor at a seriously cheap pricepoint.
Just note that this is not a rechargeable razor, it must be plugged in at all times. Though this is good in the sense that you never have to worry about it dying and slowing down in the midst of a serious shaving session.

    • But… you do worry about it giving you a nice electrical shock… >_<

  • just a note its a corded shaver

  • Thanks, just what I needed.
Be careful of Amazon - the sneaky buggers keep trying to charge AU$28 instead of US$28 whenever I change something.

    • Price keeps jumping back to $35, in AUD. If I switch to USD the price is still ~35. I see no way to get the $20 price plus shipping.

EDIT: Okay, I see the price is reduced by giving a promotional or gift card credit on the order. Makes sense. Ordered.

  • Does it operate on 230V? I would assume so as it should be designed for operation when you travel but one of the comments on the Amazon site said that it's 110v only not 220v and I can't find any other information. It's made in the USA so it may only be 110v.

edit: The walmart site has a 6940LC listed that is 120-240v so it should be ok - http://www.walmart.com/ip/Norelco-6940LC-Shaver/10669222

Confirms 100V to 240V AC operation as noted above.

  • Big W sell what looks like the exact same shaver (different name) for $47.

  • ah, corded… any other good deal on shaver from amazon? but rechargeable, and less than $100.

  • thanks,

I think my dad's shaver is like 15+ years old and was starting to die

I'm still using my first Philips shaver from 1990. It still works beautifully. Changed the batteries four times and two blade changes, otherwise it's great. It was made in Japan. The Shaver Shop guy said you can still buy Japanese made Philips shavers, but they're in the $300-$400 price range. That's probably what my original one cost back in 1990, but I did get my money's worth! I bought two more Philips shavers during that time. When my batteries first failed after ten years, I bought a replacement model but it died after 3 years (electronics melted) so then I bought another one which died after 2 years (plastic disintegrated). I gave up on buying new ones so I took apart the old 1990 one and swapped the batteries, which lasted another eight or so years. Just had to replace them again in December, but it's still going strong.

This new corded model won't last that long I'm sure. I ordered one anyway, as it's a good price for a backup shaver, and something I won't have to worry about accidentally leaving in a hotel room when half asleep in a rush to check-out.

Beware when buying rechargeable Philips shavers, most of the old ones can still shave while plugged in and charging. A lot of the newer models use these stupid docking stations, so if the shaver has a flat battery, you're outta luck. No shave until the battery has been recharged. Also you're stuck carrying a charger + docking station + shaver which is a pain in the $#&^ when traveling. A corded shaver can be used anywhere, but a rechargeable corded shaver is great for when there's no power-point in the bathroom (or jungle if you're camping!)

The electronics in the so-called 'smart shavers' regularly fail - they're a bunch of crap anyway, telling you have 15 shaves left when they can't possibly know how long you need to shave for or how often. Sometimes they say '15 shaves left' but then it drops immediately to 5 shaves after a long shave. Or it says 30 shaves left, but you didn't shave for two weeks so the battery dies immediately after turning it on. Corded shavers don't suffer from this problem.

Agree, i still have my original philips rechargable 3 blade working fine.
Changed the rechargable batteries once so far and the shaver is now 28 years old…….

You're meant to replace the heads every year with these.

  • easternculture… you are making my bank account dry up.

Is it a deliberate strategy of manufacturers to bamboozle the consumer with a bewildering number of models?

  • Will this need an adapter?

    • Yes

    • if its not an earthed connector, you can likely just bend the prongs with a pair of long nose pliers to fit. been doing this for a long time on US-sourced electronics and never had an issue

      • Nice trick, xyron…. just that these days some plugs / bodies that hold the prongs are so fragile, one fears breaking the plastic housing in trying to bend the prongs :)

        • I've done this a few times too,

should be fine, and if your worried about breaking the plastic, just use 2 pliers so you just bend the metal

  • This is an excellent deal. Here are the replacement heads:

Showing up as $19.35 on my screen atm. These shaver heads are also used on a wide variety of other Philips shavers. So why not buy a complete shaver with heads for $19.99? You get a free shaver!

  • Thanks easternculture.
    Just bought one.

  • Hey guys quick question, I'm trying to find a shaver that doesn't go too short ( ie. trying to find a shaver that leaves a bit of a stubble), pretty much so the 3 day growth comes quicker as I haven't been able to find a shaver which can give that 3 day Look ( only tried the I-trim), so would this shaver be suitable? I don't like a clean look, also if anyone has any suggestions of other shavers, feel free to let me know :)
    Thanks

Amazon lists it as $2.22/oz. I do like to purchase my shavers by the ounce.

  • Good deal. I've been looking for a budget Philips shaver with popup trimmer. Thanks OP.

  • Sweet deal, thanks OP! Just ordered one.

  • I have this shaver - I bought it in 2011 on Ebay from Australian seller for $26.90 plus shipping. It's pretty good.
