Seagates and western digital are good for the normal user. You should look up the ozb archive to see past great deals on those brands. External needs an external power source and portable is usb powered.
I would recommend WD. Haven't really had any issues with them, and I have external, portable. Desktop basically requires you to plug it into a power outlet for it to work. Portable boots off via USB connection. Haven't heard of Adata before.
WD is generally more expensive though, if you're not fussy on brands this deal going on atm is good.
Also forgot to mention, this probs should have been a forum thing and not posted under this deal, but anyways… lol

and there are no "best" brand, depends on your preferences. Some prefer WD. I've had many WD failed on me.

That's really a normal price, you may find similar deals from Officeworks website, may get price match sometimes and get free delivery
I am looking to purchase an external HDD to backup my laptop as it currently seems to be playing up randomly. Just wonder if anyone can advise what is the best brand of external HDD and also is there is difference between a desktop to a portable?
