How do you shorten Amazon URLs? Or is that an affiliate link?

they are evil cause people can never see what they are linking to

I really hate ozbargain some nights… Mrs Dixit gunna kill me… Thanks for the post. MUST RESIST…

OK. Going to pull the trigger soon… If anyone is interested, these reviews were interesting (these have a little too much mid-bass for the audiophiles - so great for movies, gaming and reggae…)

Anyone got advice on a BARGAIN sound card, DAC or DAC/Amp to drive these? Reviews seem to say they don't need it, but they gotta sound a bit sweeter with a bit more juice?

depends on ur budget. if u dont want to be killed again by mrs dixit, get a fiio e17. it is cheap and good and excellent value at its price.

      • Thanks - e17 looks like the business. Might wait a bit before grabbing the e17 - enjoy the headphones unamped first. If anyone is interested, NoisyMotel is doing it for $139 delivered with a free L9 line out device (gets better sound out of iphones etc). http://www.noisymotel.com/product.asp?ProductID=330

Mp4 Nation had them on special a while ago, with peridot headphone stands thrown in for free. If you haven't already bought it from Noisy Motel, create an account on Mp4Nation and open a support docket to get a favourable price on the E17.

On the flip side, I also invested in a Cowon Z2 media player. I received it on Friday and put some media on it. It is definitely worth the investment. The sound from this player alone sounds so much better than an ipod+dac/amp combo. For portable listening, this is pretty much going to be my frequently used device.

        • Cheers - haven't bought, thinking I'll give the headphones a spin without for a while then get something later.

  • Can't sleep. It's raining. So tempted… These would look great on my giant head… Was thinking M50s - but perhaps this is better…

    • I'm thinking of going with these rather than M50s because M50s are on-ear while these are over-ear. I find on-ear annoying (but haven't actually heard/worn either of them!)

      • I couldn't resist. Such a good price. Order placed and email marked as read - no need to alert my wife prematurely. She already calls me Mr Spendy.

Ordered a gigantic eneloop pack and La Crosse charger too. Not sure why. Might sleep on the couch when everything arrives.

You won't regret it. I have the previous model ATH-A900 and they sound awesome. I also have a pair of M50 that I bought due to an ozbargain, and they sound good but definitely nowhere near as crisp as the A900 in all ranges of sound.

Also, after prolonged use the M50 can be uncomfortable on the ears and on the top of the head. I like the design of the 'wings' on the A900 and the larger phones, heaps more comfortable.

        • And I paid about $230 for my ATH-A900 a couple years ago, so this is a very good price!

        • but i think m50 is smaller right? i already have hd650 and t1 (thanks ozbargain, cost me $1k). both are open cans, i am after a close can which i may want to use on everywhere i go (office!!), not just at home. should i wait or just buy the A900x?

        • A900x is massive. M50 heaps more portable.

        • Hi alwayseric, what amp/dac do you use for hd650 & t1?

        • alwayseric, what are your thoughts on the HD650 and T1?

        • What about IEMs? Have you given those a try for portability? I own a pair of IE8, IE80, Westone 4R, Shure 215 and various other IEMs. I acquired the Westone 4Rs around Xmas when there were sales being advertised on OzBargain and can say there are one of the best IEMs I have ever owned. While the IE8 and IE80 are awesome if you're in the mood for bass-heavy music, the Westones are simply awesome when you want crisp. clear balanced music on the move.

I also invested in a Cowon Z2 media player and received it on Friday. I've also got a Cowon X7 (160gb hdd player) that is a bit bulky compared to an ipod classic. The Cowon players are definitely a couple of notches above the ipods and they're a company dedicated to developing high-quality players with a focus on audio quality.

What headphone amp do you use with your HD650s? I'm using a TubeMagic D1 with a Cambridge Audio Azur 350 amp. Would like to hear more about the amp/dac combo you're using with the HD650.

          Cheers,
          rusty

IMHO, according to this video, M50s are not on-ear, but over-ear instead. I don't have m50s to test personally, though.

        • M50's are definitely over ear, thought the A900's will be alot more comfortable.

  • Torn between getting these or the ATH-AD700s

    • AD models are open headphones I'm pretty sure. Which means sound will "leak", it's like having mini speakers on your ears. The ATH-A900X are closed headphones.

    • A store sells "Audio Technica ATH-M50" for 130 posted on Ebay, if you wanted middle ground.

Trigger pulled. Amazon estimates that MrsDixit will kill me between Apr. 12, 2013 - May 7, 2013.

Going to need a long extension cable…

  • What about this vs Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO?
Those seem like quite a classic.

  • Hi, just joined and first post.
I tried to buy these but I get "We are not able to ship this item to your default shipping address", this is not a po box and is SA street address. Amazon gives me this crap all the time even for items [sold by Amazon] that it say's are Global eligible. Any clues how to buy apart from using Shipito etc?

    • +1

Hi I think the problem may be you're trying to purchase the item from "Beach Camera, Fulfilled by Amazon" for $179. Click on the "20 New" and then add to cart the $170 item from Amazon. If this is not the case you could try a friend or relatives address.

  • Pulled the trigger! This is the third pair of headphones i've bought in the last few weeks! All ozbargain deals too!!

Hope these fit my head! Seems that its a bit of a gamble with these as to whether they'll fit your head properly….

    • Just noticed it now says 'Temporarily out of stock' for amazon as the merchant……
Mine hasn't shipped yet, wonder if mines on back order?
