There is also an $25 cash back from Moneybackco for new account. So that's $75 all up.

  • Only problem is you have to deposit $2000 to start off with - not really worth it for $50/$75.

    • where does it mention that one?

  • Also with less than $5000 in the account you only get 0.5% interest.

  • I have an HSBC Online savings account already, so I missed out on this $50.

But I will tell you the online banking is a bit crappy:

    1) A number-generating widget is required to login, so you have to carry it everywhere with you (even while travelling abroad etc). As soon as you lose it you cant log it. This inconvenience is mainly for the sake of the banks to stop fraud. It should be opt-outable.

    2) Online banking is hosted in a land far-far away from Australia so the page loading speeds are PAINFULLY slow (no its not my net connection, im on 24mbit etc. I've tracerouted it and the servers are in SE asia). So its kinda like the equivalent of having call centres in India - saves the company $$$ but gives you a crappy experience.

On the positive side the interest rate is good and I can withdraw cash anywhere and not worry about fees.

  • Actually I do find the security token very good, although you need to carry it all the time, it gives you a great peace of mind that it will be extremely difficult for someone else to hack into your account. And HSBC gives it to you for free, the only bank that does it for free for personal banker.

The new online banking is not as good as it used to be, but it's OK. The call center is much better than Citibank and GE money although it's overseas.

This is an account to withdraw handy cash and deposit.

  • How do you use the Moneybackco website & this deal together to get $75? Moneybackco seems
take you to a different link that does not give you the $50 credit for opening a new account.
    Anyone know? Thanks in advance.

    • Click from Moneybackco to HSBC, then come back here and click to the link with the $50 credit, I think.

  • RaboBANK has the little widget too.. just got it as part of the $100 bonus.
By the way, if you were trying to login to check that your money landed safely in the RaboPLUS account, and you got confusd because the login screen is weird, you are probably looking at the www.rabobank.com.au website not the raboplus.com.au site.. apparently many people have made that mistake when i called them up about it.
