The Weber baby Q is a compact gas barbecue capable of cooking a meal for up to 6 people. It is portable, easily stored and ideal for small balconies, caravanning, camping and picnicking.

The Weber baby Q can barbecue, roast and bake.

It is a premium quality product. The lid and bowl are constructed of cast aluminum and the frame of thermoset resin. The burner is made of stainless steel and the grill is made of enameled cast iron.

Its advanced burner system means the Weber baby Q cooks in less time and uses significantly less gas than traditional barbecues. You can expect up to 100 barbecue meals from a 9kg gas bottle.

The Weber baby Q100 comes standard with a push button piezo ignition, whilst the Weber baby Q100E and Q120 have electronic ignition.

The Weber baby Q120 also features two side tables that stow away under the lid to save space.

The Weber baby Q has a 5 year limited warranty and includes a full colour cookbook that shows you how to barbecue, roast and bake.

  • Will Myer price match?

  • Are these things much cop? Seems kind of expensive for a small bbq.

      One word, yes.

Yes they're expensive and yes they're only small but these have been designed very well, work beautifully and are backed by a great company with an old fashioned style warranty ie. if you're not happy with something they will replace it no questions asked!

How do I know this? I'm the proud owner of two Webers after realising how inferior other BBQs were over the years, one large 4-Burner + Wok Burner and a Weber Q220. The large one cost a whopping $2500 and it took me a LONG time to recover from spending that amount but now that it's 7 years old and still works & looks like new I'm very satisfied indeed. Amazing heat control and even heating right across the entire grill right out to the edges I don't know of any other BBQ in the price range that can do that. I bought it after being let down by two fancy looking but cheaper BBQs that failed after a couple/few years and I will never look back.

The WeberQ was also purchased to replace a cheaper portable BBQ a few years ago that ended up failing well before expected. The Q220 is much larger than this BabyQ and with ALL the accessories inc. stand and loads of other non-essentials but nice-to-haves ended up costing over $1000 however I have cooked TWO large BBQ chickens plus veggies enough for 7 very hungry people and that's due to its awesome efficient design. You can load the thing up and cook evenly right out to the edges and use heaps less gas than any other standard BBQ of its size. I've even purposely cooked fatty sausages & fried up onions (on the plate accessory) and then quickly followed that up with a chocolate cake I had premixed and ready to go purely to see if the flavours mixed. They didn't and everything was cooked to perfection. Add to that the excellent portability and the WeberQ range is amazing value. The backup support from Weber is second to none too as they replaced my lid for free without asking any questions just because it was starting to turn a slightly darker colour! I also received a replacement thermometer for the big Weber above because the numbers had faded in the sunlight, again no questions asked.

Only thing with any Weber BBQ is that it's not like a standard BBQ, it's designed to be used with the hood closed. This makes it more like an oven instead of an open grill but it's how they're designed and is how they work so efficiently. Takes a while to get used to it and many people get frustrated that they can't get perfect results treating it like a standard BBQ with the lid open but once you get the hang of it you'll be very impressed. Cook a steak in a Weber the proper way and you'll be sold instantly :) They're also 'grill only' devices so if you need to cook onions or bacon & eggs etc. you'll need to buy a separate plate to put on top of the grill which is of course an extra expense.

Go the Weber and most importantly learn how to use it properly… you'll never look back.

    • Oh… and whatever you do please make sure you check out the Special Editions of each model… usually indicated by the extra '20' on the model number (ie. 100 vs the 120, 200 vs the 220 & the 300 vs the 320) because for only a few extra bucks you can get a lot more bang for buck. For example, the 220 has a higher domed lid, a thermometer and a better ignition system compared to the 200 and it was only about $30 extra when I bought it 3 years ago. Worth every cent but be careful because not all resellers (even the big ones) are approved Weber Specialists and you can only get the Special Editions from the Specialists!

… and one more thing (sorry). The WeberQs are all alloy, stainless & plastic construction so they're the only choice for using near the coast, directly on the beach or even on a boat! The main reason my previous cheaper (but not too much cheaper) small BBQ died was because it was constructed from steel and as I use it in a coastal area it only took a couple of years to develop serious rust issues. Now that I have the WeberQ 220 and also bought the cover for it (another expensive yet essential accessory IMO) I can safely leave it out in the elements and nothing hurts it. 3 years later and after a quick wipe down it still looks brand new.

  • Best investment in a BBQ I ever made. I make roasts, meatballs, Chicken Fillets etc. Most often of course Boerewors!

You will make the money back in gas. I use a 3.8Kg Cylinder and that has been going since I got it - 5 months. Being a Saffer, I braai often so that will give you an idea how efficient these babies are.

Good deal, anyone know any cheaper stores out there?

  • I'm interested in grabbing this, but the Q200 is only $100 more so which one do you guys think is better? I only want to grill steaks, roasts, fish, kebabs etc and I'm a single guy so I'm only cooking for me.

Go the 200 mate. 100 is too small IMO. I used to have big 4/6 burner BBQ and the Weber Q craps on them. Saves on outdoor furniture space too!

Word of caution…..out of the entire Q range the Q200 is the highest seller BUT ALSO the model that cops the most criticism.

In short vs the smaller 100 & larger 300 it's underpowered in the amount of heat it can put out vs the grill size. So a lot of folks will say that this compromises CERTAIN dishes on it when you really want MAXIMUM HEAT e.g thick steaks.

A lot of 200 owners will say, Not me….but do the reading on hard core BBQ forums and it's there in black and white.

Further evidence of this is the 'competitor' versions that were brought out by BBQs Galore (Ziegler & Brown) and Bunnings which are the same size as the Q200 but have a LOT more BTUs and other enhancements like a split grill etc.

Whilst the Q's are great they're a pretty old design thats been unchanged for the best part of 8-10yrs. :-)

SO PERSONALLY if I was looking at the Q200 I'd either get the marginally larger Q300 (which is apparently what most of the dealers convince folks to get instead) or get the E2G0 from Bunnings. I was very close to getting this but it was just too large for our needs.

It's build quality is sensational - as good as the Weber, much more BTUs and $299 everyday price. Really solid bit of kit. I'm amazed they don't get more gossip as they're a steal at that price. Avoid the Z&B's from BBQ Galore, slightly dodgy design and not up to the quality of Weber/E2G0.

We got the BabyQ as I heard the advice,"Get what suits your needs 95% of the time, you can improvise the other 5%" So for just the two of us this is perfect, though you could easily cook for 4 adults on it. Best of luck. :-)

      • Good post Nikko. I've been wondering how the recently released competitors models faired against the Qs & it sounds like the E2GO is a pretty decent alternative. I haven't bought a BBQ in years thanks to the investment in the Webers so yeah good to hear other companies are starting to take their products just as seriously :)

      • E2GO looks ok. I considered it, but it only has a 12 month warranty. The Q200 has 5 years..
IMO, the Q200 heatsup just fine. I've cooked stupidly thick porterhouse steaks on it with no heating issue and quite quickly too.

Again, the Weber warranty is much better and from various forums I've read, their support on it is fantastic.

I'm another weber baby q convert.

Hated bbqing until I got mine… now I love it.

  • I have to concur with the great posts by SteveAndBelle & Scarface. I'd always had your big boxy traditional BBQ and so viewed the Q range as hyped, overpriced gimmick.

BUT I read up on them and as my wife and I are empty nesters the BabyQ seemed the right size for our needs. Had it 3mths now and love it. Super easy to use, consistant great results, very easy clean up and versatile.

I did also pick up a cheap 2nd hand Weber Kettle for cooking BIG joints of meat (eg. 2.5kg lamb leg, ~4hrs) but for everything else the BabyQ gets the work.

Like others I'd recommend you look for the enhanced models (raised lid + thermometer) for only a few $$$ more they're well worth it. As the saying goes, Buy the best and cry only once - cheap BBQ's are the pits.

Ha, I too thought it was all hype and thought Weber was just charging a premium for the hell of it & because thye could but after spending nearly as much on two inferior BBQs just to see them fail after only half the time I've had the Weber it all makes sense now :)

  • Webber Q is the bomb

The baby q is tiny and great for taking to the park/beach/camping for picnics. Great piece of kit

  • I have this model and 9KG Bottle
More like 15 Meals (Unless you are just browning bread)
