pardon me being a tech idiot, where are these better than the one op suggested ?

      • Both have bluetooth
MK809 II apperantly has better ventilation (revamped design)
Also (claimed) a dual core 1.6GHz cortex A9 processors although normal speed should be 1.2GHz

Better deal here for the MK809 II http://www.aliexpress.com/item/MK809-II-Android-4-1-Mini-PC-…

      $49.69 USD.

Worth the extra $5. Reliable seller, 245 sold. 2 weeks to arrive :)

      • geekbuying is reliable too. i bought mine from them and no issue at all.

      • The seller says 15-45 days in the listing. Are you referring to your experience?

        • From experience. If it doesn't arrive within 60 days, aliexpress will refund the full amount. IMO worth the saving from geekbuying. Free shipping with China post.

  • are these things any good? I like the idea of having android OS on a stick and I can carry it around and plug it into TV's and so forth when travelling. I have a HTPC, so don't think i have much use for it at home, unless these offer some advantages that i am not aware of. Can this stream 1080p vidya without any problems? Any other novel uses people have for these?

    • MK808 by default is 720p, you need to install custom firmware for 1080p. The MK809 has higher CPU so should handle 1080p by default

  • Specs description show 1.2 Ghz cortex-A9 but the pic says 1.6 Ghz, do you know which is correct?

    • 1.2ghz with custom firmware you can get higher but there is risks of burn out etc

  • FYI - These work with most new TV, I had issues with my old LG LCD 42" 1080p TV not liking them tho. But had no issues with the LED TVs in the house working with it

    • it works great with my old 40" Sony LCD 1080P TV.

  • Currently use PS3 and PS3 media server for viewing all media on my TV at home. Would there be any disadvantage in switching to one of these units? Will it have any issues playing .mkv over wireless?

I was deciding between this unit and the one I eventually went for (http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Unii-GK802-Fresscale-i-MX6-Qu…) which has gotten stand-out reviews from all the people who have tried it.

It is twice the price tough so hopefully it comes through. Great price considering the tech involved for this one too.

    • built-in bluetooth is very handy, but imho, i dont think it's worth paying that much for such a unit. they will drop price very soon when a better designed unit comes out.

      • They Will 100% - But I need a media player now!

From the reviews I read, this one seems to be the unit that people who have progressed through several units including the MK808 got to a point they are happy with one of these HDMI sticks performance.

The Sound/Picture playback and sync on this rated higher than other units and seems to have devs on board too.

I'd rather pay more now than be dissatisfied and have to shell out for another unit in a few months.

  • Add an Ethernet port, a second USB port, native cyanogenmod support, and add an infra-red receiver with an extension cable, which is surely amounts to only a few dollars more hardware, and this would be an awesomely kick-ass piece of kit. As it is, I suspect it'll have one or more of these problems: poor/slow wifi, or not enough ports, or won't have software upgrade options, and won't work with my logitech harmony universal remote (I don't much fancy yet another remote, e.g. a mini bluetooth keyboard/mouse, on my coffee table).

  • I have one of the bluetooth built in models.. its a nice little unit. doesnt get hot either.
What I want is a bluetooth keyboard trackpad combo that supports pinch to zoom

Anyone know of one of these?

    • I think there are some on geekbuying? Have a look at the reviews and questions.

  • If no bluetooth, what does it mean by "2.4G Support 2.4Ghz wireless remote keyboard and mouse" ?
Is that like when they say "3G support" and give you a USB socket?

    • Exactly as they say? You can have something that's wireless without it being Bluetooth. 2.4Ghz is an unlicenced part of the spectrum, used by many things (wifi, cordless phones, baby monitors etc). I have a wireless keyboard that operates on 2.4Ghz spectrum that I use for my HTPC.

      • But your HTPC does not claim to have "2.4G Support". That is in the keyboard and dongle you added.
