FREE - $30, Woolworths Everyday Money Credit Card

20

Was in woolies today and was approached by a rep to sign up to the credit card for free. The main benefits I can see are waiver of the $49 annual fee for this first year, an additional 10c off for fuel purchases (bringing it to a total of 18c per litre) and $30 credited back to your account after making an eligible purchase within 30 days of opening the account. She said I could close the account within the first year and keep the $30 if I wanted.

According to the rep, we can still sign up for this offer, but I didn't ask when the annual fee waiver would expire so you may want to check first before signing up.

Overlimit and late fees are ridiculous, as is with their purchase rates. Not worth it to have on your credit file for $30.

    • Yeah true, but you just take it for the $30, no need to actually use it. Or you could pay off the monthly balances and you don't have to worry about all the fees :)

$30 credited back to your account "after" making an eligible purchase

        Yeah you do :)

Fuel discount is good. For anything else, this card can go eat itself.

As a side note: Cross subsidisation on fuel price needs to stop. The lack of transparency is setting up a situation which is going to really hurt consumers. As these discounts get bigger, it's becoming more obvious how we are being locked into purchasing from the same store and thus just how bad it is to allow companies to do this.

        • In regards to fuel discount, BP cards do 5% discount on fuel products when you use there BP CC as well.

        • Wasn't that canceled? Would be interested if its still possible.

        • Thank the ACCC. Thats good news. Hope they well and truly kill it.

        • Dear side note: Locked in to a supermarket - only if you buy petrol.

Qld govt won't let me drive any more - health issue.
It has been a revelation. No more chasing the 4/8/16c dragon.
Catching public transport, saving money & getting fitter.

Am realising how much the cross-subsidy must be costing at the check out too.

But would like a $30 cash-back, but no one at Woolies I spoke to knows anything about it.

I couldn't find the info on the website for the "$30 credited back to your account…"???

I couldn't find the additional 10c off per litre.

    • Just spoke to them and confirmed you need to apply IN STORE, any safeway or woolies, does not apply to online apps

    • It's not there on the website but I can see it here on the brochure I was provided - hopefully it's not store specific and still applies. Unfortunately I'm not able to upload the photo now that I've uploaded the deal but its written there plainly.

      • @inasero - you should be able to click on 'edit' just below the deal title, and change the URL to something you've uploaded.

      • Asked at 2 Brisbane stores - they have never heard of this promo.
Handy if you could upload promo.

  • Where does it state an extra 10c fuel discount?

    • Yeah I can see its not there on the website but its written here plainly on the brochure I was provided. Not sure why that would be the case it might be store specific so you might be able to find out more in store.

Remember every credit card application goes on your credit file - multiple applications can count against you when applying for future lines of credit eg mobile phone.

    • And is it true even we cancel that cred card, the record will keep stay under our name and not dissapear?

    • Silly question, but does this include prepaid or postpaid plans?

      • postpaid & they're not that strict.

    • Just to clarify, before they issue a credit card/credit they do an enquiry to see what your report looks like. (which shows you, previous enquiries, defaults, bankrupt info etc.)
      These do disappear over time.

As mentioned before, if you get knocked back for a credit card, then another, the next bank/credit provider will see this and most probably decline based purely on the other 2 declining.

The other advantage is that you get an extra free Oovie (Hoyts Kiosk) movie each month, since they're usually located at Woolies stores…

    • and access to pay at the pump

  • what classifies as an 'eligible' purchase?

    • Probably Homebrand & other high margin products.

  • From T&C The $49 annual fee will be waived for the first year and debited on the 12 monthly anniversary of the first transaction of the account.

  • Anybody been able to verify this as real?

    • Several store managers in Brisbane say it doesn't exist to their knowledge
