TOSHIBA 3TB 7200RPM Internal HDD - $128 @ IT Estate - 6 March Only

540

This appears to be the cheapest internal 7200rpm 3TB drive on staticice.

An alternative to buying a USB 3.0 external enclosure and cracking it open….

Also not a bad price on a non-gaming I7 3770 PC = $549

OP's previous deals have been fishing and big man clothing related so unlikely.

        • Well my missus looks vaguely similar to Alexis, but that is indeed Alexis Love not me or the missus.

The missus posts deals occasionally using this ID…

        • she has made over 180 movies

assuming models get AT lEAST $5k per movie, thats $900000 excl endorsements and modelling

thats a bargain deal she got

    • lol

  • I got one of these. Normally I only use 7200rpm HDDs for external backup, but this one is quiet enough for me to put in PC case.

  • I don't have any more slots left on my mobo…

    • dat feel

      • I know bro, need to buy a new mobo. Maxed out with 4 HDDS and 1 Blu Ray drive. u?

        • i unplugged my dvd drive

aint nobody got time fo dat disc stuff

        • get a pci expansion card? or maybe just start stacking things all on USB3 hub? I don't see a problem with it unless you're planning on raid5 on all of them.

  • I'm after a 3rd HDD for storage.

What is the main difference between this drive and a 3TB Seagate/WD HDD from MSY that can also be had for ~$135-139? Spin speeds? Don't think that it's all that important if it's solely for mass storage.

    • This one would work fine in a NAS unlike the WD Greens which are variable speed

    • If only for external backup, either the Seagate or Toshiba is fine. If inside case, I'd prefer Toshiba because Seagate is quite noisy. I'm quite fond of WD 1TB/2TB Greens but the 3TB Green is simply not good for any purpose, not fast and not quiet.

      • I've got both 3tb of the seagate and wd green. They both did 90-105mb/s on sata 3 when they were brand new. Seek times on the green might be slower, but it's not useless.

        • No it's not useless, just inferior. BTW your Seagate 3TB speed is abnormally slow.

  • Can I put this as a boot drive on an older Core 2 machine?

    • Not a problem. You might need to update SATA controller drivers and install the Intel RST driver for the mobo.

  • Hmm, I'm quite fond of the WD Red NAS drives…I wonder how these go.

  • $25 Fastway Courier to Perth :/

  • 5940 rpm

  • Is this something like WD Red 3TB HDD? Good for HP N40L server?

    • They're NAS drives, so if the HP is used as a NAS/24x7 PC, then yes.

  • $62 shipping to Broome :(

    for up to 5 drives.

  • My experience is that Toshiba reliability is worse than WD and Seagate.

Not sure if it has improved?

    • I'd wager these are what used to be Hitachi drives -> http://www.anandtech.com/show/5635/western-digital-to-sell-h… (or similar to at least).

      I've had hit-and-miss experience with recent hitachi's

      • Yeah these are restickered Hitachi's. They are even recongised as Hitachi's on my raid card.

ordered 4 as cold spares for my raid arrays, such an awesome price.

        • Toshiba = Hitachi = WD ?

Its hard to keep track of who own who nowadays…

        • Well WD owns them all, however because of US law, they could not roll them into the WD labelling, hence why its still seperate.

        • Not quite true, Toshiba took over the Hitachi Desktop drive plant and rebadged the drives as Toshiba. They used to be a major player in the 2.5" laptop drive market.

        • WD owns part of Toshiba ergo the cycle is complete.

Also for whoever has a hard on for me and is negging all of my posts.

          http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&c…

Clearly lists 3tb, ill go check one of my current toshibas now and check the warranty on it.

Edit, came up on the Hiatchi website.

          Expiration 2015-09-14

  • really only 12 months warranty?

    • Especially when its being reported elsewhere as 3 year warranty.

  • IT Estate Price: (Inc. GST) $169

Did I miss the boat? its only 5.52pm

    • Front page sales : Special Quantity Sold Out

Product page says they sold over 200…

  • First page is $128, however it will rise to original price $168 after clicking the products.

  • Are you serious??? No way………..does this fit in a 2.5" bay ie. is it one of those slightly fat 2.5" drives? If not that's an amazing deal.

    • -1

No its a 3.5 inch drive.

      • Ah, that makes more sense. I saw internal and forgot that normal people own desktops.

  • Pretty sure it ended at 5pm or so…

  • 3Tb is a lot of space…. with 4Tb now entering the market I expect prices to drop in due course and 3Tb for $100 will be soon common…

  • I don't like it…..!

  • +2

My screen says $39 per drive… sounds a tad too good.

    • Same - but cannot order, gets stuck on the last stage. Now the websites down

      • 2nd time lucky, worked.

  • There is no way in hell they will honor the price. But ordered some for my upcoming file server anyway for lol's

  • Let us know if they honor it haha…

I was about to order it at $39 but decided not to, figured they'll cancel it anyway.

  • Orders with the $39 error will be cancelled and refunded http://www.itestate.com.au/pages/websiteinformation/wbi_news…
