Sydney Morning Herald + Sun Herald Weekend Delivery 26 Weeks for $65 (NSW and ACT only)

70

Was waiting to find a deal a bit cheaper than the $114 going rate.

The deal doesn't come up if you go through their normal subscription portal - to get to it you have to go to http://subscribe.smh.com.au/stc.

I haven't seen it for $65 for a long time.

Good for those who can't get any uni offers eg http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/93253

Smh called me last week as a past subscriber. Offered me $89 for 7 day delivery for 26 weeks and threw in $25 visa card. So $64 for 7 days a week not just weekends.

I do live on an area that has a low smh readership. So they go lower to build up local readers to attract advertisers.

Basically, just ask them what their other current offers are and see what you get. They have deals now as their launching the new format on monday. No more broadsheet.

    • yep, less paper = less cost, imo. :p

  • Great! Love reading the good weekend!

  • not as good as the $20 guardian deal. But that's expiring soon. Good deal.

  • I tried to negotiate since I had been on an introductory 7 day 26 week sub for $99.90 (July 2011 - Jan 2012) then they placed me on a 26 week sub after for $129.00 (Jan 2012 - July 2012) then another 26 weeks for $149.00 (July 2012 - Jan 2013) they wanted to jack it up again to $180.00. I asked if there was any room for negotiation (keeping on $150) the operator told me zero. I told them I had entered three Fairfax events (all expensive compared to other similar sports events - spent over $170 on them) in the last year and entered in over thirty benefits comps (winning nothing but ticking boxes and giving my details away multiple times). Guy didn't care. So I didn't renew my subscription. Do you think if I call back they would offer me a better deal now? Given the paper is now in tabloid format and thus presumably cheaper to produce.

I live in NSW, grasstown it seems it was your lucky day. I couldn't imagine any of those twats calling me offering anywhere near that kind of offer. Must be getting desperate to boost circulation numbers in some parts.

EDIT: here is the copy of the notice. http://i49.tinypic.com/30u760g.jpg

I understand I wouldn't be eligible for the introductory rate on and on, but jacking it up by nearly double (each six months so 18 months later it is $180) is a bit rich.

Also I was willing to pay for a tour of the Chullora print press but the spaces kept filling up and the one time there were spaces available the site was down. Fairfax pick your act up.

    • Those prices are rediculous.

It can even depend on the person you get. When the sales person won't budge, just hang up and call again. Ask but dont negotiate with them. Same thing with Optus, I used to call and be told I couldnt renew my contract cos it was now archived and I'd have to go on a new plan. I was told that for 3 years, but in all three years different operators renewed it for me when I called 5 minutes later.

I've had really helpful smh operators, who I call up mentioning an offer, and they've checked their available offers and given me better than I called up with.
