Ooops sorry ozblogger - I didn't mean to vote you down on that. I was trying to give you a positive vote… damn mouse. I agree completely with what you're saying.

And $14 for 18 cans of coke is definitely not a bargain (not taking into account the t-shirt).

Yeah agreed … it certainly isn't a free shirt.
$14 for 18 cans includes the shirt costs.

  • I want this shirt and would pay $5 for it if I didn't have to make the purchase. It should be free with purchase and included in the case like Pepsi were doing before christmas at Coles with the free Pepsi beach bag or whatever the frock it was.

Not worthy of a neg IMHO as I'm sure some will find this a great deal ie if you buy cases of coke anyway.

PS Can't you at least buy a regular 24 pack case?

  • Slightly OT: Why aren't soft drink can packs cheap? They are all manufactured in Australia so they shouldn't be affected by exchange rates. Additionally, petrol/diesel has come right down so shipping should be cheaper. Why are we still paying > 50cents per can of soft drink?! (Reference: I couldn't find any cheap soft drink cans anywhere at my local shopping centre)

    • I'd be happy with 50c a can for Coke products sold in packs (warm). But this is almost 80c a can!
At some cheap takeaway shops/bakeries et al you can still get a COLD can of coke for not much more than a bulk buy warm coke (rare but it still happpens for $1-$1.20), and thats without any bulk discount.

Coke in general is overpriced lately, those 2ltr cokes can reach over $3 now in coles because of the higher oil prices. And this probably won't get any cheaper any time soon because it seems most transport companies have only just been able to adjust their haulage fee to cover the rises that happened over the last few years. Doubt they'll give up the extra profit now, they deserve it anyway.

      • yeah, i don't think prices for anything will go down much again for the next year or so…
as for coke specifically… if you want to get the best deal on the coke/t-shirt thing (as I was interested in the shirt and coke myself when i saw it arrive at the dock yesterday),
i'd just wait 3 or 4 weeks for the specials cycle to return back to the 18-packs (i know, as i take down and put up the weekly specials at woolies). i doubt that the specially-marked tshirt deal cans would completely sell out, and normally, on the second/third specials rotation, the cans would be slightly cheaper.

the last time the cans were around $0.45 each was a 30pack+18pack free deal at woolies.. and that was a week or two before christmas.. hopefully they will have something new soon.

    • The Coke syrup is imported from the US — all Coca-Cola Amatil (the Australian bottler) has to do is add water (and some other minor ingredients), bottle/package the product and distribute it. With the AUD/USD exchange rate as it is, I doubt we'll be seeing much cheaper Coke prices anytime soon! :)

  • My local IGA has Coke 18 packs for this price, but had 3 Coke tumblers included in each pack. Therefore no need to pay for postage.

Might be an option for some if tumblers are more useful than a $5 t-shirt.

  • For those in Gold Coast, QLD. Woolies Palm Waters is selling the 18-pack for $9.98 this week as a store-specific special… they are the free-tshirt boxes too!
